Private The End of an Era

I sit at the desk of my office, or rather what will be my former office; for perhaps the very last time. A partially empty glass of wine sits there nearly forgotten while my focus has rested entirely upon my datapad for the last hour.

The Galaxy is changing and no longer is New Cov able to escape it. Instead we are to be taken over and have no choice in the matter. Our voices mean nothing. We mean nothing. With a snap of a finger our neutrality is lost and so too does our prosperity.

And so I have failed them. I failed myself and I have failed New Cov. Over these years I had perhaps garnered too much attention to ourselves; so much so that the larger governments had targeted us for conquest; a conquest that we are too small, too powerless and too insignificant in the grand scheme of things to prevent.

Afterall I am not a Force Wizard like the rest of them outside of New Cov are.

So I am taking it upon myself to leave in disgrace and live in exile. I know where I will go, but I will require some help to get there with all of my things. It will be quite the undertaking and quite the change for me. I am not ready for this, but it must be done. Mister Usher would certainly be able to lend a hand discreetly.

I have written many messages to various important people in my life. Writing them had broughten me to the brink of tears, and yet I do not shed them. I do not let them fall. For although I may be disgraced; I am not broken. I will not allow anyone to see me fall apart. Not a single soul.

Rising to my feet, I then hit send on every message before I pick up my wine and carry it with me to the window. There I look upon the domed city for what could be the last time. Our days of freedom and sovereignty over our own world will soon be gone.

"I am sorry that I failed you. Perhaps one day, you will be free again."

Afterall, it has happened in New Cov's history before.

Message sent to Mr. Usher Mr. Usher :

~Mister Usher,

I hope that this message finds you well. The same cannot be said for me, however. I humbly request your assistance as soon as possible. Certain circumstances have caused me to require an immediate departure from New Cov. And so I require help in packing up my belongings both personal and professional, to be freighted out to an undisclosed location.

Please let me know if you are able to grant my request.

Respectfully,

Miss Liin Terallo.~

Message sent to Tertius C. Nargath Tertius C. Nargath and Karl Von Strauss Karl Von Strauss :

~Marquis Nargath and Director Von Strauss,

It is with a heavy heart that I am to inform you of my resignation. Be it temporary or permanent, I am unncertain. That could very well be up to you. Certain circumstances have caused me to require my departure from New Cov. I am also relinquishing my position at NCBC. What will become of the company, for that I am uncertain. But it is no longer my responsibility. It is yours.

I am packing my belongings and plan to lay low for a while. As you well know my life is work and I know of nothing else. I am sure that I will find some other work to shift my focus to. And perhaps when I am ready, I will reveal what that will be. But until then, I will remain hidden in exile and out of the public eye.

Take care, the both of you. And I wish you all the best.

Respectfully,

Miss Liin Terallo.~

Message sent to Balun Dashiell Balun Dashiell :

~Mister Dashiell,

I regret to inform you that there has been a drastic shift in my life and work. I am leaving New Cov and all of my positions. And therefor I will not be requiring the services of a bodyguard. Nor will I be able to afford it for some time to come. But if ever I come to require one again, I will be certain to go to you first.

In light of this short notice, I am leaving you with your salary for the remainder of the year as a parting gift.

I wish you all the best.

Miss Liin Terallo.~

Message sent to Strill Securities Strill Securities :

~To whom it may concern,

I am writing to inform you that I am leaving New Cov for the very last time. I have relinquished all of my positions and with it my income. And so I will no longer require your services. Perhaps the new administrations of New Cov will continue with your contracts. I am uncertain. But I do thank you for your incredible work during these years. I will deposit three month's salary into your accounts as a parting gift.

Thank you for keeping vigil and for keeping New Cov safe.

Respectfully,

Miss Liin Terallo.~

Message sent to Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell :

~Mister Dashiell,

I hope that this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you of a recent change in my circumstances. I have relinquished my Director positions and will be departing New Cov to an undisclosed location. For now and for some time to come, I will no longer be a part of the business community. Nor will I have the income to support any status amongst high society. So there will be no need for invitations for various events or ceremonies.

Please take care and I wish you all the best.

Respectfully,

Miss Liin Terallo.~

Message sent to Diarch Reign Diarch Reign :

~Lord Reign,

I hope that this message finds you well. I am writing to inform you of a sudden shift in my current circumstances. I will be leaving New Cov permanently to an undisclosed location.

Not so long ago you had come to me seeking an investment in your government and I had given those funds freely. A promise was made that should I require assistance, you would be there to lend support.

That time has not arrived yet, but should I need an investment in myself, I do hope that you will still honor our arrangement. But if not; well I can certainly understand the arrangement being voided. And I would not hold it against you.

I wish you all the best with your Empire.

Respectfully,

Miss Liin Terallo.~

A notification on my datapad draws my attention away from the window. I had become lost in my thoughts. But they were not about the 'what ifs' or of rehashing past events in order to somehow prevent this future. Instead they were on the steps that I need to undertake to depart my homeworld forever.

I turn and walk back to my desk, set down my now empty glass of wine and then pick up my datapad. As I activate it and read over the message waiting for me; I feel a great sense of relief. At least someone that I know will be providing me with some help, and for that I am grateful.

Quickly I type out a reply message:

~Mister Usher,

Thank you for the quick reply. I am not in any danger that I am aware, but should that change I will indeed alert you. As for the movers, I require enough to pack up my home, my office and my lab. I have other possessions elsewhere throughout the Galaxy; but I shall worry about those later.

I will explain further during our journey. Once again I am grateful for you assistance.

Respectfully,

Miss Liin Terallo~

I send the message off and then tuck my datapad under my arm in the off chance that other messages arrive. My first stop will be to my lab so that I can begin to pack what I can on my own. And to keep myself close to the specimen.
