OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: A mental condition that appears in Gen'Dai, like my character, wherein there is a fault in their brains as they advance in age and their concept of time and change.
  • Canon: No
  • Permissions: No
  • Links: No

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Media Name: The Eternal Inland
  • Format: N/A
  • Distribution: Rare, I guess. Only affects Gen'Dai.
  • Length: Does not apply
  • Description:
As Gen'Dai advance, they begin to lose their minds but a certain few will feel the effects of their deteriorating brains earlier due to lack of stimuli. Gen'Dai as a product of their longevity have an odd sense of time and believe that change is but an illusion - Gen'Dai afflicted with this will believe otherwise. This is most common in Gen'Dai that have been incapacitated or put in the same place for several centuries, like being trapped in an iron box for two hundred years. Their brains cannot take the inactivity without being molded by it, the silence becomes unbearable, the darkness becomes too much. After this time itself is an illusion, but change is not. After the ordeal or lack thereof, they will begin to experience time oddly, as if they jump around in memories. One day, they wake up when they were younger and the next, they are in their late thousands, their mind fully afflicted, but this is only in a mental sense. As their actual present day physical body's brain deteriorates, the hallucinations and the time jumps become sharper, more drastic, and random. They essentially experience time out of order along with various allusions to the past and present that they do not have the memory to understand yet.

When they jump from memory to memory, they will have different physical reactions, some will jolt, others will simply fall. When a "consciousness" jumps out, another one jumps in, taking the place of the old one. For example, Consciousness A is "older" than Consciousness B by three hundred years. They are currently in their late one thousands. Consciousness A is negotiating on a price of a certain product with a merchant but he suddenly jumps out and Consciousness B jumps in with a jolt. Consciousness B does not remember this encounter, this is the first time he has met this merchant. All consciousnesses live the same memories in the same order but certain consciousnesses are "older" and others are "younger", meaning the younger ones are a few memories behind others.

  • Symptoms:
    • Out of order experience of time

    • Sudden blackouts and incapacitations
    • Erratic behavior and almost constant high-stress levels

FORMAT INFORMATION

CONTENT INFORMATION

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The condition has existed beyond recorded history, dating back to the Gen'Dai's ancient civilization and even then, this was a rarity. There is no historical data except perhaps the ramblings in diaries of other Gen'Dai with the condition that have yet to have been discovered.

Greetings,

It seems like you may be having some difficulty with this submission so I wanted to reach out to explain. All submissions must conform to the existing Codex and Factory Templates. You can ADD as many fields as you need to make it work, however, you can't remove any. The basic template must be there in all parts. If there is a field that does not apply to the submission you simply mark it as "N/A" rather than removing the field.

As it stands you are still missing a few fields.

These instructions are found here:

Media Template
Codex Standardized Rules

  • The entire template must be used in your submission. The template's base fields are not to be changed/removed/altered with the exception of a Force Nexus. If a Planet does not have one this can be removed. Otherwise, If the field does not apply simply state "N/A". Additional information and fields may be added if desired.

If you need help please feel free to give me a tag. Otherwise, just tag again when you're ready to have it moved back to live judging. Thanks!

Hi, I am Judah Lesan and I'll be helping you out with this submission so we can get it approved.

I've looked over the submission, and I can sympathize that right now we do not have a precise template that best fits what you are trying to accomplish. My goal is to help you work with this one in such a way that it will get you both what you are after, and conforms to the spirit of a media submission. To do that there are a few things I am going to ask for.

Let's start with an overall observation:

General Note

There is nothing wrong with your content, but much of what you have written does fit in other places in template which would keep you from having to put a lot of N/A markers in the fields provided. A perfect example of this is they symptoms you list. They could easily be placed under content information. If we tweak the submission to read like someone's paper on the disease, you would not have to edit any of the content, just rearrange how it is presented, because it currently reads like you are circumventing the template entirely.
Let's walk through this.
No. 1. GENERAL INFORMATION

1. FORMAT - here you have listed N/A the template does give guidance on this however
Describe the medium for your submission. Choices can include (but are not limited to): Book, Holobook, Hologram Recording, Magazine, Movie, Audio Recording, Album, Podcast, etc.
This could be a medical journal entry, a paper, an excerpt from a textbook, anything, but it cannot be nothing, otherwise it is not actually medium. If you could choose something to put here that would be great. You mention in the Historical Information diaries from older Gen'Dai. Perhaps you could format this submission to be one of the old diaries?
2. DISTROBUTION - You have listed rare, which I believe you have meant that this is a rare disease, but the question is how widely publicized is media itself. If it is rare that is fine, but please distinguish here between the condition and the publication.
3. LENGTH - How long is the media. If it is a paper how many pages? If it is a recording how many minutes? Again leaving this blank does not really make this a media submission. Please select an option from the template:
How long does it take to watch, read, or play through this submission? Choices include: Minuscule (for pamphlets, zines, holonet videos, etc.), Short, Medium, Long, Epic (for inordinately complicated works of literature, overly long cinematic, etc.), Recurring (for ongoing magazines, holonet shows, radio broadcasts, etc.) Optional: Provide an exact word count or run-time.
4. DESCRIPTION - This is where we can do some cut an paste. Much of what you have here would fit in content. Again Description here is looking for the description of the media not the condition or disease. From the template:
Give a brief, general description of the publication and its purpose.
The main issue with the General Information section is the information presented here belongs elsewhere in the template. So let's just move it to content. Easy peasy!
No. 2. SOCIAL INFORMATION

1. ORIGINAL TEMPLATE - The original template lists, Author, Publisher, and Reception. You have listed N/A for all of these which on two of them is okay. What I would like to see here is perhaps a name of the doctor who made this discovery or did the write up. You could list any kind of NPC figure here and just notate that you made them for the purposes of this submission only without having to link anything.
2. ADDED FIELDS - The added fields you have listed here of: symptoms, contagious, terminal, and cure, should all be listed under content in this submission. If you could move them under that category that would be awesome!
No. 3. CONTENT INFORMATION

This is where the bulk of the content you have in your submission needs to be moved to. You can format this how you want with extra fields and what not, but the actual particulars of the mental condition need to be listed out here.
Let's start here. I can leave this in live judging if you wish so we can go back and forth on this, or we can move into pre-codex. I think if we work together we can find a way to make this work.

Judah Lesan Judah Lesan I am well aware that this is not Media, and I did not make it to be media. This disease is completely undiscovered - unknown to the public, therefore no doctors have treated or diagnosed it, no medical records, nothing at all. The only reason why I am using the Media format is because there is no disease template, and this was recommended to me by a few people on Discord, most of them actually. I cannot do any of the edits you require of me, as it really does not apply to it, except for added Fields.

I understand the issue you are having, but what I am trying to help you do is to use the template as it is intended to be used. As I have pointed out in the edit requests I have given you, you could move some of the content to other places.

I feel as though you are approaching this submission with a misunderstanding. These particular responses lead me to this conclusion:

Edited though how Media fits into the actual submission is imperfect

I am well aware that this is not Media, and I did not make it to be media.

What you should be doing is making the concept fit the template, rather than try and force the template to fit your concept. It is an imperfect fit, but if there is no media or documentation, then a media submission does not work at all. You are correct that we do not currently have a general lore template, nor do we have a template for a disease or disorder.

I understand that it is frustrating that an exact template for what you are looking for does not exist, but the edits that I have asked for will help you use the template which would best allow you to codify the disorder, and use the template as intended.

As I have said, the bulk of the fields you have added should be in content information. It is okay to list the Author as unknown, and for the work to be unpublished. It could simply be a journal entry as you mentioned in the historical information section, refer to the quote below.

the ramblings in diaries of other Gen'Dai

The Codex is OPTIONAL, which means you do not have to codify this mental disorder at all. If you do wish to do so however, it needs to be with one of the templates that exist, and the spirit of that template needs to be evident in the submission.

Here are our options:
  1. You can make the edits I have asked for and we can make this work (either leaving it here, or moving it to pre-codex)
  2. We can archive this and you can work the details of this into your character biography since it appears that he is the only one to have it
  3. This submission can be archived and you can wait for the creation of the appropriate template.
I am more than willing to help you get this submission to a place where you can use it and codify the disorder. To do that, however, we are going to have to approach this differently than you intended.

Please tag me and let me know which of these options you would like to go with.

What's the status on this sub? Would you like more time to complete the edits or would you prefer to have it archived? Is it ready to be moved to live judging?

If I don't hear anything back within a few days, this submission will be archived for inactivity. If you would like it pulled back out of the archives so that it can be worked on - Please make the request in the Submission-Modification Thread.
