Submitting Legislation
OVERVIEW
The Board of Executives of the Techno Union functions similarly to the Senate of the Republic. The chief difference between the two being that the Senate is made up of elected representatives, whereas the Board of Executives is made up of appointed representatives of corporations that are part of the Techno Union.
These corporate representatives meet regularly to discuss matters of state, diplomacy, and so forth. Although the Techno Union does not directly interfere in the affairs of member planets, the legislation it passes can affect them. They are also expected to comply fully with passed legislation.
As long as a member-corporation of the Techno Union submits the proposal, it matters little who wrote it or what legislation it serves. This creates a lucrative business of Techno Union corporations submitting proposals that are discreetly on the behalf of member planets in exchange for exorbitant sums of money. Once a proposal is drafted and a corporation is found that is willing to sponsor it, it gets posted and put up for vote.
Over the course of the voting period, member-corporations may debate one another and offer up amendments
All that is needed for proposed legislation to pass is a 2/3rds majority vote. Corporations are allocated more votes depending on their number of Tiers beyond Tier III. For example, a corporation from Tier I to III will receive one vote. Tier IVs will receive two votes, Tier Vs three votes, and Tier VIs four votes.
If the legislation receives this majority vote, it is ratified into federal law and added to the list of accepted legislation. If the legislation fails for any reason, it cannot be re-submitted by any member-corporation for a month.
