From Wookiepedia:
"The Eye of Koda was an amulet or a medallion encrusted with a gem. It was named after the legendary scout Krin Koda, who had found it. Although there were many legends about its purpose, the gem was in fact a map representing stars and planets. It led to a planet which was home to the Tempestro temple, on Koda's World.
The Eye was originally bestowed upon Krin Koda by the Tempestro after he saved them from a great disease. After Koda's disappearance shortly after he had found it, the amulet passed from many hands for a number of the years, afflicting its owners with misfortune and death."
Further extrapolation:
Over a vast number of years, the Eye of Koda has exchanged hands, and has been something of a cult obsession. Being that the crystal itself is monetarily worth quite a bit, the legends surrounding this medallion have been exchanged under the table. While the original owner, Krin Koda, believed the piece was a map, that purpose has been long outdated by numerous charters. The Eye is more particularly studied for the effect it has on its owners. The Eye was mined and then given to Krin Koda by the Tempestro, who were subsequently colonized by Koda after he saved them from a blight. The Eye has a long history of causing inexplicable bad luck and misfortune to the user, often ending in death.
Legend provides that the Eye of Koda's curse can be broken by a force-sensitive individual who is willing to make a "Sacrifice of the Soul".
While looting the starship The Avenue 5, Viz Harridan stole the Eye of Koda , prompting a curse which effects her at present.
