- Strength: Moderate, The closer one gets to the core of the furnace the hotter the environment becomes. The winds themselves fluctuate in their strength. In the current era of Cantoi the winds are still a threat.
- Accessibility: The main furnace is located deep underneath the Royal Palace of Hycantoi Prime, at the lowest level of the prisons. Because of the high potency of energies surrounding the nexus the exact locations of any installations are obscured and long range scanners cannot penetrate the mountains and earth the prison hides under.
- Description: The planet of Cantoi has been plagued by dark winds that carry illness and voices of the dead since it's darkest days in it's first age. At it's most extreme the winds would lay waste to mass swaths of the population and leave force sensitive individuals mentally crippled.
In an attempt to remedy this the masters of old created an area where they could concentrate the winds and funnel it into an area where it could be purified and put to better use. The second component of the nexus would become known as the Flame while the dead wins would be called The Fan. The furnace was imbued with the souls of the most powerful force sensitives on the planet and would continue to be reinforced by the Master Smith of the Red Brethren upon their deaths.
NEXUS EFFECTS
The Fan, the dark winds have caused great plagues and illnesses throughout the history of Cantoi, most of these illnesses center on a creatures lungs or their equivalents in other species. In most cases it will turn an individual's organs and blood a dark green, where the disease is highly concentrated green molds will form on nearby structures. These must be purged with heat and in the most extreme cases fire. Force sensitives also suffer from another side effect. They will constantly hear the whispers of the tormented in periods of great conflict and torment. Another side effect of these winds is madness in those with weak wills.Individuals who are empowered by the dark winds form cults and begin worshipping the plagues and attempting to spread it through any means. Most of these cults are well hidden in underground cities or in the darkest corners of the 3rd ring.
The Flame, the closer one gets to the flame the hotter the area becomes. The flame can absorb dark magics and sorceries and so may prove difficult for spiritual entities to near it. It can imbue items with great power and grant those who remain in it's presence for extended periods heat resistance, near the core of the flame any non-force sensitives are quick to lose consciousness if not their lives because of heat fatigue or shock from the extreme temperatures. Items empowered by The Flame can be used to effectively counter the plagues and illnesses spawned from The Fan, being in their presence canease the myriad illness, or in severe cases do great harm against those using the winds to their benefit.
POINTS OF INTEREST
The Royal Prison: Deep beneath the royal palace of Hycantoi Prime lies a structure designed with the intention of attracting the Darkside energies of the planet into a small area. This is a layered prison, as you descend the floors get smaller and smaller until you arrive on the 5th layer the deepest layer is shrouded in dark side energy. The lower the layer the more dangerous it's inhabitants and it's atmosphere becomes. One cannot enter the 5th layer without adequate heat protection, not only does the magma radiate intense heats but the furnace itself radiates potent supernatural heat that can penetrate even the most stalwart manmade defenses.
The Furnace: The furnace is the main means by which the dark side energies are purified and used to empower the weapons and armors of the Red Brethren. It must be rekindled by the souls of the Master Smith every 200 years to ensure it runs at peak efficiency. Should the furnaces operations be ceased calamity will befall Cantoi on levels that would make prior disasters look petty.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
In the first age of Cantoi, the cruelty of the Hycantoi's slave masters created a disturbance in the force, intense vile treatment of such numbers created a maelstrom of winds that plagued the world for a century, leading them to create multiple underground facilities in order to survive the worst of it. What many did not know is the dark influence that had taken hold of the leadership of the planet. Foul sorceries were employed in order to increase their power, and they would leverage the suffering they created on the planet to ascend to new heights of power. These sorceries opened doors better left closed, and when the Dark Master's lost their control over the people they were slain.
Before perishing, many of the dark masters had begun the construction of a furnace capable of concentrating the winds and imbuing their dark powers into great artifacts. The structure surrounding this great tool was known a palace of torture, a terror that attracted the winds and funneled them into what would be the dark furnace. Once the First Silent King discovered these sinister plans he gathered the most powerful force users on the planet with a vision of turning the former tool of damnation into a means by which the people of Cantoi can return to the surface in relative safety.
The facility surrounding the furnace would be transformed into a prison, housing the depraved, violent, and worse. Then they would use the Red Brethren, former enforcers of their slave masters as penitent wardens. The studies of the Force Masters present on the planet proved to be fruitless until one suggested that they needed a collection of energy that could purify the dark winds, use them as fuel for a brighter cause. All knew that this would cost them their lives and so it was delayed for decades until the situation for the planet truly grew dire. Only then did nearly all of the potent force users present decide to sacrifice their lives and join themselves in a never-ending dance within the furnace. This act of sacrifice would take decades more to see the results of, however eventually the people could exit the underground cities and begin to rebuild on the surface of Cantoi.
