District: Kintore (The Floating City)
Size: Medium 100km diameter
Wealth: High
Population Density: Low
Demographics: A broad mix of species. 2% human, 15% Bothan.
Surface: Surface
Geography: Grid layout. Height of floating regions of city varies
Air Quality: Excellent, if a little breezy
Points of Interest: Rail lines. High-tech repulsor trains follow straight paths across the skies of the district. Each train is luxurious and painted in bright colours. These cut long lines across the sky and greatly reduce the air speeder traffic.
Medical Centres: Three great medical facilities are spread around the centre of the district. These are known across the Galaxy as centre of medical advancement and research. Many citizens with strange ailments come here for treatment.
Conform/Revolt: Conform. the district is considered another shining beacon of imperial ingenuity, and a sign of the improvements brought on by a settled galaxy.
Description: There is a wide, smooth bore that runs deep into Cormalum. No one knows why this is here, and the smooth walls suggest it is artificial. Kintore is comprised of a grid structure of floating segments and was built across the opening of this hole. These blocks vary from very small, to over a kilometre across. Each segment tends to bob slightly in the breeze and often residents find the oddly gaited walk of newcomers amusing. What they find most amusing is when a newcomer has to head to the rails to vomit out onto Pipeworld below.
There is a broad mix of residential, scientific and commercial use of the available land. Space comes at a premium and only the top 20% of earners are typically able to afford flats of any size on Kintore.
Some of the shopping districts are frequented by visitors from across Imperial Centre. To access the district people have to enter a number of stations around the edge of the land that surrounds the vast open expanse filled by the floating city. Sky trains will distribute visitors to where they need to go. Most civilians are not permitted to fly air speeders here, due to the risk of damaging the structure.
History: It is unknown why there is a circular hole in the surface of Cormalum, but it runs deep into the crust indeed. Pipeworld had turned from a simple series of engineering structures that brought up geothermal resources to a sprawling district inhabited by millions. It was decided by the Emperor of the time to cover the gaping maw in the surface of the planet with a shining city built to display the power of the Empire.
The whole city was commissioned at once. Advanced in repulsor tech enabled each section of the city to float in position for weeks without any external power supplies, but districts were interconnected such that if any repulsors failed the adjoining districts would hold the structure together.
As each section was completed, corporations started to buy up estate to build structures open. Gleaming towers, though small by Imperial Centre standards, started to spring up. A week long festival was held across Imperial Centre when the district was completed.
