The Forge (Adamithium Dev Thread)

In Umbris Potestas Est
METAL FORGES, GEONOSIS

Myra had returned to CIS space in order for the metal forges of the Geonosian factories to test out a new material that she had conceived. If this worked, the newly formed material would be so structurally sound, the use of durasteel as a structural device would be replaced by this new material. No longer would durasteel be used for frames, or for hull plating. Subach would finally have an alloy superior to that used by everyone else. It was because of this that the material, dubbed Adamithium, would be exquisitely tested.

Tested to see how resistant it was to all things energy and physical.

METAL FORGES, GEONOSIS

Geonosis, the cesspool of odd creatures and wastelands. This red planet was the place his proprietor had chosen to forge a new alloy proposed to supersede the use of durasteel on starships. Her hypothesis would be tested this day as he came before the woman who offered such an advantageous material to support the efforts of the Sith Counci; a rapidly growing Sith organization led by the infamous Sith lord Darth Iscariot. If this material was proven useful, he would be the first to utilize it against his opposition. His voice was directed to the woman as he gestured with a hand. "So what exactly is in this concoction you have theorized? What was used?"

"It's a base of duranium, coalesced with several energy-resistant materials with a bit of titanium ore for a catalyst. This material should make the next generation of Subach starships far more durable than the prior ones. Which means any fighters and bombers constructed specifically for you will be more durable than the previous generation. Adamithium has the potential to be a proper successor to durasteel in the ship-building industry." And if all the tests worked out today, she would have the means to rejuvenate Subach's ship-building industry.

This would be good.

METAL FORGES, GEONOSIS

He turned to the forge thoughtfully as the fires of Geonosis swirled the liquid metal. Subach-Innes never ceased to intrigue the old Sith. He walked across the high metal bridge, sliding his hand over the long railing. He watched the mining droids hover over the forges and large metal carts being pushed by the workers below him. He kept his eyes on the progression as he spoke. "How long will this project proceed before we get some accurate results? There is much to be done and little time in my hands." He turned his head to the mastermind of the project. "Can this metal be used on anything besides my starships?"

"It can be used in personal armor, as well as for vehicles, buildings, and other such things. I'd actually recommend it for personal armor use over the others simply because it would be cheaper to repair than a vehicle." Smiling, she watched as the molten mass of metal was poured into the mold. Soon, things would be getting real steamy, and the vapor rising from the molten metal would cease as it was formed into a proper shape.

"Let's see what this metal can do."

METAL FORGES, GEONOSIS

He watched intently the molded metal cool until it was ready to be placed on a large anvil-like workbench. The Dark Lord walked over to Myra's side waiting to see what would be tested first on it. It took four large droids to clamp the piece of molded metal while a fifth one lifted it onto the flat surface. Finally, the most important part of the project was about to begin. He narrowed his eye and spoke. "What about droid plating? Can this material be used as a lightweight alloy?" he inquired as the workers came over with their equipment.

"I suppose it could be. As for claims of being 'lightweight,' this weighs about as much as durasteel, if not a little more, but its protection-to-weight ratio is superior. A thin layer of this should block an attack that it would take one and a half times the amount of durasteel by volume to equal its protective abilities." The press went into action, forging the metal into the proper shape for testing.

It was going to be set up right and whatnot, after all.

"Would this material be used on weaponry as well?"

He leaned onto the rail as the molten metal filled mold and was cooled. The droids began to gathered and a robotic arm came down to clamp around the mold. It was slowly lifted and brought above their heads onto the opposite side of the forge. The dark lord walked off the railing and turned to the other side as the arm lowered the mold. He clasped to the adjacent railing and looked down.

"It could be used as such, yes. Considering its durability, the parts would more than likely increase the longevity of any weapon made from them, though it would be difficult to repair them. More than likely, new parts would need to be cast." A soft sigh crossed her lips as she looked the situation over. "The metal should be good for anything requiring interlocking parts. Gears and the like."

At least, she figured it would.

METAL FORGES, GEONOSIS

"You say it's more durable than durasteel. When it comes to ammunition, could it be used to create armour piercing quality rounds?"

This question was more important to him since most starships in the galaxy were not going to be made with this type of metal. If ammunition was to be stronger with this metal then it would be superior advantage over future adversaries of the faction. He looked down to the metal workers below as they laid another layer of liquid metal to reinforce the piece.

"If so, what about missiles?"

@Myra Subach

"I'd say no..." She paused. "Well, technically yes. But the AP rounds would not be as powerful as ones with Neuranium tips or Corusca gem tips. Even baradium missiles would be better than this." She paused. "Nevertheless, it could certainly be made for a lot lower price. And the rounds would be more penetrating than standard rounds, definitely."

It was up to him what he'd want to do.

"Can this alloy be melted and fused with other metals to improve their quality?"

Seeing as some materials can be lower grade and weaker, it would benefit to know if this alloy had the capability of improving others. With the metal finally cooling off below him, he waited to see what the droids were going to do next with it. From behind him the process started over again with another mold being filled. Steam rose from below him as the workers prepared to cool off several other metals ready to be layered. He wanted to see the durability tested if it were possible in the process of its creation.

"Considering that it itself is nothing but an alloy, I would assume so. Whether the new alloy would be able to retain the properties of adamithium is unsure, but it more than likely will." She smiled. "The test panel has been set. We'll put it in the firing range shortly. It's currently at starship-grade thickness."

In other words, turbolasers and blasters would be tested against it.

He nodded and looked to the work at hand.

"Very well, let us see how this alloy does against various weaponry."

He gazed back down to the sheets of metal being placed for fire testing. The alloy was set upright as the guns entered from the opposite end of the processing field. If this alloy were to be proved useful, there would be a definite investment in this technology for future starships to serve in the Sith Council's arsenal.

Karolus Krupp

Minister of Intelligence
Karolus' web of informants had brought him to Geonosis on the tracks of Myra Subach. He was well informed that the Dark Lord of the Sith was here as well. Curiosity was burning within the slender figure that stood in the shadows and eavesdropped on Darth Iscariot and a woman, presumably Myra Subach.

The Coyote knew he couldn't stay longer in the shadows and immediately popped out as if out of nowhere, he was sure his Lord did detect his presence moments ago though. He bowed to the Sith until dismissed and spoke with a noble tone:

"My Lord, pardon me for eavesdropping and interrupting your meeting but if what I have heard from your conversation is that this alloy could prove. " He paused and gave a smile to Myra "Revolutionary."

While waiting for the first phase from the test to commence he buckled well the sheath of his sword on his hip and spoke to Myra:

"I have been wondering around a specific question..." He caressed his beard and continued "How does this alloy fare in different environmental conditions from intense heat to frigid cold, high humidity, corrosive acid and such."

"Said alloy is exceptionally resistant to heat and cold. It does rust like durasteel, but at a much, much lower rate, meaning that preventative measures will last for much longer. Decades instead of months. Same goes for resistance to acids. Adamithium is overall an improvement against durasteel, with one exception - it is very difficult to repair."

Karolus observed the woman as she spoke assure of this discovery and it's specifics. The fact that the Sith Council has gotten it's hands on this was a good sign. A material of such 'abilities' would give the Sith Council the upper-hand in every aspect of war. The machine was becoming stronger and stronger, the gears were being oiled constantly and the machine that is the Sith Council was growing with pace and efficiency. The Coyote thought of all the possibilites that this material could be used and contemplated on the further questions he had about this revolutionary material.

He turned to @[member="Myra Subach"] once again, his eyes even thinner than usual and questioned once more with the point of gaining more information: " Lasting much longer would mean also that expenditure on repair costs would take much more time than durasteel, which usually would mean that repair costs although higher would still be lower in the long-term." Furthermore he continued, adressing this time the one weakness that Myra had just stated. "What exactly do you mean that it is difficult to repair?"

In Umbris Potestas Est
"The metal is rock solid. if damaged, it can't simply be welded back and repaired that way. Other metal can't be properly welded onto it. It's... atypical. Incorrect. Metal can't simply be poured into any holes to seal them - oxidization will occur. I don't really know how best to describe the metal's issues, but it refuses to be easily repaired."

This was quite the annoying quality with the metal.

Karolus nodded analysis the information he had gathered on this interesting material.

"Have you seen if any other substances, if 'imbued', would be able to negate that indeed the negative effect ? Moreover, if that is impossible, how is it 'repaired' ?" This material although highly advantageous had one massive drawback but Karolus would see if he could gather more information about it from the woman and dedude if the advantages would be able to cover for the drawback that had just been stated. "May we proceed with the tests as well."

Break stepped forward from the shadows, intrigued by the new metal and its uses it could possibly pose for his own body. The chance for an upgrade was rarely turned down by the Reploid.
"As for the strength, how would it take a heavy weapon like a laser canon or a Turbolaser canon? My current armor is made of Dura and I would like to see for myself how much of an improvement would come from this metal."
Break was noticeably excited to see the future of what make his next set of armor.
"How also if applied to armor or a droid shell, would it stand to a high powered slug thrower?"
