Dominion The Frontier War: Dark Tidings | Mandalorian Enclave Dominion of Rothana

Rothana was a world well-famed for their starship manufacturing capabilities, furnishing such ancient governments as the Galactic Republic with their starships. But in the modern day, Rothana had decayed to be a mere vestige of what it had been. Sitting on the fringes of greater powers, the neglected world had been left to stagnation and ossification.

But with the Mandalorian Enclave expanding its domain, Rothana once again had a chance to become the starship-manufacturing glory it had once been. To that extent, fledgling trade had been established in the hopes of sealing a pact between the two frontier powers.

But Rothana was not a world that would go untouched by the Enclave’s frontier world. Pirate fleets, looking to hit back after their defeat on Kaddak and foiled trap on Lyran, had struck against a small convoy of Enclave freighters in the Rothana system.

Now, Enclave forces must reduce their besieged brethren. But this attack may not be all that it seems - because the pirate’s bravado may bode even darker tidings.

Kick in the afterburners.

Fog of war perimeter identified. Tracking hostile vessel movements. Plotting stealth point.

Alora's eyes slid over the consoles as her fingers danced over the controls. The Gambit had slid into the system outside of the operational area so their arrival wouldn't be a signal flare. They'd burn in, cut engines, and go full stealth mode to rely data back to the rest of the fleet. Her ship wasn't the strongest ever built, but it was blazing fast.

Cutting thrust. Reducing shipwide power.

With the stealth frame of the Gambit the pirates sensors shouldn't be able to detect they were there. Tight-beam transmissions only periodically sent should delay them growing too suspicious until it was far too late as well.

Great. Send the prelim data to the fleet so they know what they're getting into. Tell them to hurry; they're just freighters, and won't last long.

Transmission underway. I hope you do not plan to attack to buy more time.

"Why would I do that?" Alora asked aloud at the strange question the Gambit posed.

"You have been hanging around a Supercommando lately. I suspect they have been filling your head with strange ideas."

The Mandalorian laughed as thrusters kept the ship on course circling the conflict. "They're not that strange. Besides, Commandos do things on the ground. Not up here in space." Normally. Usually. Right?

Siv Dragr was a Bounty Hunter that took little pleasure in glory or fame. It was simply a job that paid his bills, a job that he had a particular set of skills for. Had he been trained as a janitor, he would’ve likely been sweeping the Cantina that he now sat it. But fortunately he hadn’t.

He sipped on a Myocaran Blue, a strange liquor that he’d decided to try in this backwater cantina. Before him say a deck of cards and a Ugnaught dealer. He’d come to Rothana to make some side credits and get some ropes on the game so he’d be able to do it even better in Tor Valum back home. Hopefully whoever decided to be his opponent and a heavy purse they’d be able to part with soon.

Blasting into the orbit from hyperspace was the Hellhound, filled with members of clan Krayt and sitting in the captain's chair was none other than Shai. This was what the ship was built for, to jump in and blow stuff up before anyone could react. :: This is Hellhound, checkin' in. Let's show these skugs what happens when you cross the Enclave. :: She spoke into the comms, the secure channel going out to everyone coming along with them. "Are all systems operational?" She asked one of her crew. He gave a nod and a maniacal grin spread across Shai's maw. "Let's get to it, then. I wanna know what we're-" She was interrupted when a transmission came from Alora, showing every detail Shai would have hoped for.

"Well that makes it easier. Alright folks, target the freighters, ions first. Don't blow them apart just yet, we might have use for those carcasses." Shai ordered her crew. The Hellhound came to life as is zoomed forward. From what she could see, the freighters weren't ready for this. The ion cannons were the first to start spitting. The targeting systems locked on and the ship moved into position, rounds flying from the barrels at the ships ahead of them.

A pair of the freighters were knocked out almost immediately, and then secured when the Hellhound let loose with its cannons. "Target their aft section, take those engines out. Leave them right where they are." She ordered and her crew obeyed.

The Nag blipped into existence from Hyperspace. The distress call had sounded not too long ago and the short distance through time had nothing on the Basilisk.
"Cowpoke-Niner to Blast from the Past. Get your scrawny butt out of Hyper, Tee. We got trouble." he said through the comms to Tawnita Wren Tawnita Wren as the droid zoomed in on the vessels attacking the freighter, particle cannon soundlessly firing at the scum vessels.

A pirate corvette broke off its assault to turn its attention on the incoming Basilisk.
"Greeeeeat! Tee, damnit, I got turbos in my face!" he complained over the comms as Nag swerved to evade the turbolaser fire. "By the way, Wardog, brilliant piece of tech, this!" he told Shai Maji Shai Maji who had dipped into orbit as well. Maji Ironworks had really done a stellar job on this design.

A turbo shot bounced off the armour and shielding of the Basilisk, which just caused it to growl and let loose a salvo of lasers along with the particle.
"Atta girl!" Vren told the droid with a parsec wide smile.

While the massive frigate was clearly a terror to the smaller ships, something much bigger and much more dangerous was coming at them. "Captain, incoming." One of the crew spoke up. A few moments later the ship shuddered as its shields were peppered with artillery fire. Shai cringed as she rushed to the scanners' terminal. "... Is that real?" She asked with wide eyes. "Confirmed. Corona to larboard." The man confirmed.

How it was operational was beyond her understanding. Either it was a relic, or someone was still cranking the stuff out even after all this time. The massive pirate frigate hovered off to the larboard side of their frigate. Her knowledge of it was rusty, but luckily they had decent scanners to detail it all. This was going to be fun.

"Bring her about, target that frigate! I want it decommissioned yesterday!" She barked as she dropped into her seat and slipped her helmet on. The Hellhound turned as another barrage of turbolasers battered against their shields. Alarms blared and the crew were stiff as boards, but not from fear. They were anxious, just like their captain. They wanted this fight just as much as the Wardog sitting alongside them in the bridge. The moment they locked on, they returned fire with turbolasers and laser cannons. Unfortunately the shields on the pirate frigate was still quite capable. "I don't got time for this. Ion and turbo. Shake and bake 'em." She growled. The ship responded the pirate barrage with the roar of its ion cannons. One after the other the shots impacted as they soared towards them.

The pirate ship crackled with electric arcs and the spinning disc slowly came to a halt. "Power is out, she's down, captain." Another spoke up. That was easy. "Reel 'em in. We're going on there."

The sails flared open as they closed in on the ship. As they came alongside, harpoons burst from the Hellhound and tore into the hull, pulling the pirate ship in towards a docking ring. Shai immediately got up and made her way to the boarding crew, ready to spill some blood.

oEmNd1o.png

The Gambit banked lazily with thrusters only as it slid between the ships. It wasn't surprising there wasn't a lot of movement. Pirates fighting freighters -- not exactly hard prey to catch. But no one was ever truly 'at rest' in space unless you constantly used your engines to resist the draw of nearby planets. Even then, relatively speaking--

Hate to interrupt, but your friend is here.

Alora perked up and caught sight of Shai's ship entering the fray. Now that'd get the pirates all excited!

Her fingers danced over the controls again as things got cooking. "Overwatch here. Got a small ship moving in on one of the freighters. Probably a smash and grab." If people with guns were showing up some pirates were going to want to get their haul and get out of there. Who wanted to stand toe-to-toe with someone willing to fight back? Cut into their profit margin, and their crew.

Her eyes shifted to the side to find Shai had apparently taken on one of the big ships in the area. Already bagged it too. Yeah, that was Shai alright. Made Alora smile.

"Well..."

Don't.

"...since Shai's busy..."

"Cease your verbal nonsense."

Alora grinned as the shields flipped up and the Gambit banked in toward the small ship. "Ca'nara at muun'bajir!"

"I am not a warship!" the Gambit complained as weapons locked.

Romul Saxon was a fighter, not a flyer. But when duty called, the Warmaster of the Enclave would do what needed to be done. And if that meant barely scraping through a dogfight, than so be it.

His KSTR-31 Beringr-class Interceptor rocketed into Kestrian space, ready to fight. For if anything, Mandalorians knew how to fight.

The ship groaned as it pulled the pirate frigate closer with a borderline archaic means. Though it made an impression, it was certainly not the most effective means. But Shai wasn't after effective, she wanted fear in their hearts. :: Captain, be advised. There are more than a hundred signatures on that ship. If you want to get to the bridge, it's gonna be a fight. :: Shai heard over the comms. "Heh... hear that, boys! A hundred! Does that sound even for you lot or do you think they'll need more?" She called out to the twenty warriors behind her, all clad in Beskar and brandishing a variety of weaponry. A cheer and laughter filled the air among them as they heard the docking rings connect.

Their hatch opened and they stormed over the bridge towards theirs. Breaching charges were placed along the thick door, they fully expected them to have closed the blast doors. And frankly they might have overdid it with the amount of explosives planted and the troopers with plasma cutters standing by. "Get ready, kiddos, it's gonna get hot and heavy." She spoke up as they backed away from the door. The charges blew and smoke filled the space between them. Blasters roared as bolts tore through the smoke. The few shots that did hit merely bounced off the raiders' armour like water on rock.

With shouting and screaming they charged through the smoke, Shai ahead of them all with her particle carbine. Soon they returned fire and the pirates buckled under the attack. Some fell back while others kept firing. Bodies piled up one after the other until the firing ceased. Shai walked through the aftermath of the firefight, her and her men executing any survivors that laid around them.

They had a target and they couldn't waste even a minute. Shouting echoed from a hallway as they marched further into the ship. Shouting that soon got drowned out by repeater fire as they rounded the corner. "Oh kriff..." She grumbled as they hid by the corridor.

BLAM.

The pirates had seen him first, and they weren’t happy. Romul Saxon was flying on their perimeter - flashes of light off to his starboard indicated where the main pitched battle was taking place. But he’d run into one of their picket ships, and three fighters beside them. That was not good.

Gritting his teeth, he rolled as point-defense cannon fire scraped at his ship. His interceptor was of much better quality and make than the old shops the pirates flew, but that didn’t change the fact he was outnumbered four-to-one.

The repeater kept them suppressed behind their corners for the moment. Shai sighed with annoyance as she and her men were ready to move. From the sound of it, it wasn't the type they were supposed to challenge... but she was going to try anyway. Throwing a few flashbangs around the corner, there was a moment of silence from the repeater. That was their window.

They rounded the corner and filled the hallway with blaster bolts. The pirate manning the heavy repeater received a healthy dose of particle bolt to the head before the ones around him got mowed down as well. "Keep pushing, keep pushing!" She shouted as they steadily advanced against the wave of resistance. :: Captain, the others seem to need assistance. Should we- :: he was cut off by Shai with a snarl. :: Don't disconnect. See what weapons can target their opponents. If they need help, let them know. :: She barked at him before continuing.

On the Hellhound, the crew sent a message to the rest, encouraging them to report back and ask for assistance if they needed any.

The Gambit twirled in space as it maneuvered between two pirate vessels. Blaster bolts were flying everywhere. At least no one was using mass drivers though! Because these pirates were terrible shots. Okay, probably not true, but they were barely touching Alora.

"See? I don't know why you were so afraid."

"I do not feel fear. I was simply stating a fact."

Alora giggled as they banked again to come around so their fixed forward batteries could lay into the other ship. "A fact you never stop stating."

The synth voice slowed and lowered its pitch, "One you keep forgetting."

What was to forget? She built the ship. Of course Alora knew they weren't a heavy corvette. They barely classed as a corvette. Didn't mean they couldn't fight though.

"Alright. Engines on that one are down, I'll let the other ships pick them off. Now where's that--" Alora stopped talking when the Gambit shook from a barrage of fire. "Nevermind."

Nag now had the corvette on her tail as she kept swerving. Vren was starting to inch in the direction of getting queasy. We liked his boots on the ground. All this swerving was not his cup of tea.
"Let's get that shabuir, Girl." he said, his head starting to spin.
A rumble sounded inside the cockpit as the droid responded before she suddenly dipped down and did a underhand spin to get on the corvette's aft.

"Blow that thing's tail." Vren said as he locked on the engines.
Nag let loose with everything she had and before long, they ignited and blew, engulfing the corvette in flames.
"Hells yeah!" Vren whooped as Nag swept over the burning corpse of the corvette. "Right, let's circle around to see if we can give the Dog a hand." he said.

The Basilisk circled around to where the Hellhound had some prey in her clutches.

The pirate resistance was crumbling. Against the unit of iron-skinned Dragons, they couldn't do much. To them, they were seemingly invincible with weapons that simply didn't run out of ammo. Their shouting and precise fire struck fear into the crew as they stumbled and ran to cover. One of them tripped the blast doors, giving them a few moments to try and figure something out. Three of the pirates were simply too late as they bashed against the doors and cried for help. Shai and her unit stood and watched them silently as they turned around and begged for mercy. "We don't negotiate with pirates." Shai muttered coldly as she drew a Ripper and popped a round into one's head. The rest were quickly gunned down as well.

She made her way to the control panel and plugged in, getting to work on bypassing the emergency defences. "Get our wounded back to the ship. The rest of you, get ready to move." She spoke calmly as she focused on the security system. Despite their invincible appearance, they had a few that got hit here and there. Two were taken back to the ship, but the rest stood stalwart behind their Alor.

The moment the doors opened, the fighting continued. Only this time the whine of thermal detonators rolled along with the blasters firing. It was a desperate measure and it did a lot of damage to the ship, but it gave the pirates a chance to retaliate. Several Dragons got thrown back or against the hall while the pirates pushed forward. In a daze, Shai noticed the pirates closing in. "Get up!" She barked as she stumbled to her feet. A bolt impacted her chest and sent her tumbling back. In retaliation, she drew her pistols and opened fire. The rest did the same, fighting back and getting up from the blast with grunts and groans.

Romul slammed forward on the starfighter’s stick, rushing headlong to portside as two of the pirate fighters came down on his aft. He let them readjust before slamming down on the stick again, pushing the interceptor to the max of what acceleration it could achieve.

That put the third starfighter squarely in his sights. Romul squeezed on the trigger and lasers spat from his cannons, but they only raked against an thruster, not achieving the full demolition that he had expected or hoped for. He pulled up, yawing the craft as it sped upwards relative to the picket cruiser.

"Watch yourself, Cowpoke. You're starting to sound a little desperate over the comm and I'd hate everybody else to lose what little respect you're hanging onto."

She grinned as the Mother Abbess brutishly materialised out of hyperspace, her hands darting across the console as she began to activate the automated defence systems, her intent to start ripping holes into the enemy ship. She began calculating the necessary fields of fire and punched them into the console, driving home the necessary coordinates.

"Incoming"

She watched as the mass-driver cannons began a flurry of highly powered ordnance that would deal out some massive stopping power to the bow of an enemy ship. They made contact, sending a spark of explosive debris from the rear of the ship.

Tee laughed to herself. It was good to be back in the action.

"You hit anything yet, Vren?"

oEmNd1o.png

Alora peered at some of the sensor readouts as a pirate actually tried chasing the Gambit. Like, it was barely keeping up because it was some kind of tiny fighter -- all engines. Well, they could play cat-and-mouse because she was busy tracing a bunch of comm traffic.

"That's weird." A few switches thrown and some of the specialized sensors came online.

The ship spun on the spot and hit full thrust to counter momentum and fly straight at the pirate following them. They narrowly avoided a collision as the Gambit streaked away from the combat.

"Better readings out here. That looks like a ship," Alora commented aloud.

"Yes. The pirates appear to have a command vessel able to hide its presence."

One not at risk of stray shots at that distance. "We should take a look."

"Need I remind you--"

"--I am not a warship," Alora intoned.

"--that such a vessel may be well armed or possess docked fighters."

Her honey eyes flicked up at the ceiling for a moment. "Oh, that." Okay, yeah, probably not a good idea for the scout to take them head on. "Wait, are their engines heating up?"

The pirates nearly had them, but they managed to push them back and break the onslaught. If it wasn't for their armour, they would have been in big trouble. Shai got to her feet and kept firing with her pistols at the retreating pirates. Turning around, she looked at what was left of her raiding party. All of them were thankfully on their feet, but a number of them were unlucky enough to catch bolts between the gaps of their armour. "Get back to the ship." She ordered them. They wanted to argue, to keep fighting, but even through the T-visor, Shai's glare shone through to them. "I ain't losin' anyone of you lot to these scumbags. Move it." She spoke, sympathy glimmering brightly through the stern voice of her command.

With her party down to twelve now, things were going to get difficult. Even more now than it was. Then again, they had killed a lot of pirates. Shai would be surprised if they weren't down to less than half of their numbers now.

"Dragons! Let's move!" She barked as she pushed on towards the bridge. They encountered another blast door between them and their objective. "Sit tight, we ain't making the same mistake twice. They're waiting for us, the whole bunch of 'em." She commented as she looked around, thinking of a plan. She was still recovering from the explosions, a thick headache pounding at her skull, so thinking clearly was taking a while. But they couldn't stand still like this. Every second wasted meant time for their enemy to retaliate.

She looked up at the vents above them for a moment. Perhaps they could figure something out...

A starfighter. Thonn actually knew how to fly, having learned in his youth and even having a space-faring fighting vessel to call his own. Though he hadn’t piloted one in a long time, and his personal starfighter had been ruined long ago during a brash and clumsy landing. That was years ago and obtaining another one had remained financially out of reach – besides, he had been plenty effective as a ground troop with his heavy armour and weaponry.

But that wouldn’t be good enough to deal with every threat, and now that the Enclave was carving out their own corner of the galaxy, they needed starfighters. Which of course meant that he, by extension, needed one. And that pretty much meant the Enclave ought to give him one, given the great need for experienced pilots and the fact that he could actually afford one again. He’d not be so reckless with it again as he had been in his youth. He’d learned his lesson. Those things are kriffing expensive.

His GRL-109 Moonlighter had been handling great too – it had been a while and he was a touch rusty, but his piloting skills managed to come back to him quick. In short order he’d flown to the site of the distress signal to see two frigates side by side – theirs and the pirate’s. This first starship battle was going to be a challenge. Enemy starfighters surrounded the two ships and Thonn wasted little time in gaining their attention with a series of laser shots until return fire forced a temporary end to his aggression in favour of evasive manoeuvres.

Tee hit the dashboard of the console as hard she might.

"Can we not!?" she shouted with an epic ferocity.

The port side of the vessel began to lose stability, beginning a dangerous list. Tee scrambled to check the schematics. The right thrusters had taken damage, likely from stray fire.
She grappled with the control stick, turning as hard as she could to combat the dangerous and uncontrolled descent the gunship was now making.

A-V3 whirred into life, running along his pre-determined path. The spherical droid murmured.

"We have lost integrity of the rear port-side thrust mechanism. It will need a severe power-reroute to overcome the..."

"Why haven't we done it already?" Tee screamed, kicking a side panel in the vain hope it was achieving something.

A-V3 sidled off, rolling towards the portion of the gunship that housed the various systems that would make such a thing possible.

Tee breathed heavily, watching as the ship veered further and further away from the combat zone.
