The Senate Guard is rumoured to have existed ever since the beginning of the Old Republic and has ever since worked as the security force made to protect the Senate and the most important officials of the Galactic Republic.
However, a few major changes were made to the structure and general idea of the unit as Dagos Nasscar was promoted to the rank of Captain of the Senate Guard. His journey to the position was difficult, but after years of continuous work, he made it to the job he'd dreamt of so much.
In general, the Senate Guard is an elite military/security unit of the Galactic Republic, tasked with the responsibility of defending the Galactic Senate and its senators, as well as the Prime Minister.
