Iskaayuma City
Rodia, Tyrius System

Droids could be very effective, far more than humans, which scared Kail a little. When did circuitry, electro-gadgetry and wires make suitable replacement for the human brain, split-second decisions and instinct? The luxury liner – for it was more a liner than a ship – was making its way into Iskaayuma City in Southern Rodia, away from other capital city of Equator.

Having overseen the flight down through Tyrius back to the planet where their troubles all seemed to stem from, and where Xenia had abandoned Kail just over a month ago – how far they had come – the droids were now feeding in the required identification codes and permits for the ship to land without fear of reprisal, hostility and danger. Kail didn’t know what tricks or strings were being pulled, but so far so good.

A good few floors down from the bridge, but many floors above the luxury living quarters and hangar bays, Kail stood in the main “lobby” of the ship, if one could call it that, looking like a regal waiting room. The large blast doors against one wall blended in with the décor of the room, but looking very sturdy and secure as the main passageway in and out of the ship when docked. Ornamental fauna and sculptures were dotted around the room, with sofas and small booths that some droids occupied – chatting away with who knew what, probably conversing with the ships mainframe itself and ensuring everything was running smoothly.

Walking slowly up and down the lobby, looking out of the portholes as the ship came down into the atmosphere, Kail felt replenished and ready for action – not just thanks to Xenia’s methods of relaxation, but also eating well, resting and generally feeling like a human again. But what helped was the discovery of Xenia’s armoury about 5 floors up, below the bridge. Not where the war droids were housed, but this was a vast array of weaponry to run a small army – personal sidearms, large explosives, blades, rifles and god knows what else.

Like a child in a sweet store, Kail had taken his time to browse the armoury while Xenia was taking care of “business” floors below. She didn’t tell. He didn’t ask. This was her area of expertise, but the armoury was his.

Replacing the weapons confiscated by CorSec, he had chosen a RX-7 blaster pistol, a TC-22 rifle and one of the Nass-Tech Mounted Data-Pads to replace his own. It fitted nicely on his right wrist, looking conventional and sleek. With a new armoured vest, darker and lighter than his previous one, but still offering torso protection and pockets for his equipment, Kail Ragnar was ready to seek out those trying to take his head, but also those endangering and threatening the woman he cared for. A great deal.

Xenia. What a woman. 2 points annoying to 1 point adorable. When he wasn't with her, he thought about her - when he was with her, he couldn't get enough of her. Even here in the lobby he missed her, but was comforted by the very fact she was around. He had never felt like this before, and he knew it was dangerous, and if anything were to happen and he didn't handle it correctly, it would be his undoing.

But that was a thought he didn't want to think about. Not now. Not ever.

From behind the closed doors, almost nothing could be heard. Not that anyone was listening either way. Only faint murmurs of a female voice which was clearly speaking, though nothing clear enough to make out. From Xenia's side, things were a bit more heated, and her voice was beginning to take an edge. A male stood before, a Rodian whom she had made an acquaintance years before-- acquaintance was even a stretch, really. It was less of a friendly conversation, and more of a favor calling, though it was going over well enough. The Rodians, from what she had seen of their species, were such cowardly creatures, slinking away from danger, and yet drawn to things which invoked just that. It had felt like an uncomfortable hour since the conversation had begun, a teeth pulling experience of number exchanges and various loud-outs of information which came onto the various screens around her. Information, codes, everything she was requesting had been presented.

"... And you're sure this is going to work?"
"Yes," he replied from his blue hologram image. Life sized.
"... You're sure?"
"Yes."

He spoke in the Rodian tongue, and she seemed to understand easily. Slapping a few keys on the animated control board before her, a small chip slid from the processing engine. He confirmed that she had gotten everything she needed, and Xenia nodded her head after some hesitation. The kind of eyes which meant 'this better work, for your sake' glared at the Rodian in his dispersed retreat. The hologram flickered out, and she began to leave, making her way towards the bridge. Kail wasn't there, but it only took a small amount of time to locate him and make her way to where he was, slipping through the armory door with a swift, quiet glide. When she spoke, she made her distaste towards their destination clear, spite filtrating into her voice. Though, there was a light shadow of a giggle which followed her speech, and a smile which proved she was happy to have her eyes back on the human.

"... Of all the places, it had to be Rodia."

As Kail headed to leave the armory again, just having another look around for other items he could use, the door opened before him and Xenia stood, an unreadable expression on her face – annoyance? Not sure. Only when she spoke could he feel the thaw in her voice. He rolled his eyes and continued walking to her, taking her arm and turning her back around to leave.

”Yeah, yeah, look – enough time has been wasted letting the Rodians come to US, so how about we go to them. Catch them off-guard. We’ve nothing to lose.”

Walking side by side, Kail guided her to the lobby once more, the blast doors were still shut but from through the porthole it was clear they were still moving into the city. He let go of her arm and moved forward past a large plant and over to the window. His rifle was over his back, the blaster by his side. He didn’t feel naked anymore.

”You should stay here, on the ship. Let me go out and scout around and find what I can. The ones who put the bounty on my head and the money to end yours are out there, and I’m going to end this. I started it, remember.”

Turning to see her standing there, Kail nodded slightly to confirm his own thoughts.

”Good conference?”

"Yeah-- uh, no," she started.

In truth, she felt a bit stunted by surprise though she was quick to re arm her composure. At first, her garments might be easily overlooked but upon closer inspection she was following a style she had not shown much around the mercenary. Political garments, though still stained with the appearance of royalty. She looked more like a politician than the fiery noble that she was. Ornate, Naboo styled head garments wrapped her head in golden metal and hung about her temples with triangle shaped pendants. Crimson red shimmersilk brimmed in a flowing dress, rippling even without the presence of a passing breeze.

"We're not-- hey! Put your-- that gun away. Frack," but she broke off into a small laughter.

Her weight shifted to one hip and her expression was one of mild amusement. "Kail, what did you expect?" Was she mocking him? "We arrive on Rodia and... what...? Tough it out in the scaaaary swamps?" No, she was certainly mocking him. Wide spread hand motions proved that she was, indeed, placing heavy humor in the form of a jagged tease upon the shoulders of her almost-companion.

"... We're here with a purpose-- I prefer a more civilized approach..."

"... You're the hired protection..."

A small raise of the eyes signaled he wasn’t totally convinced by her conference, but it wasn’t his business, nor his area of expertise to pry.

As she spoke up, mocking him again, Kail sighed and folded his arms as she gave another little lecture. It was amusing for him to see her dressed so regally, as he never had before and to see a glimpse of what she represented to others was an eye-opener.

”Protection?”

Mocking a look of confusion, he whirled his finger around at the numerous droids around the lobby.

”Excuse me, you have a whole ship full of protection don’t you? What about the army that broke me out of the ship? I’m not your protection; don’t forget I’m a wanted man still.”

His hand patted the sidearm on his thigh.

”If you have any other plan, I’m all ears, princess.”

For a minute... she looked confused. Her eyes studied him, and then she cracked a smile. Her words had been taken as intended, though, not as meant. She fell back a good foot or two and swayed a single finger, looking him up and down. It was clear that he had been expecting something much more military than what she was prepared to provide. Though, she nodded as if to commend him for once again remembering the droids. After a small giggle, and a gentle clap of the hands, Xenia looked Kail straight in the eyes and cocked her head sideways with a mischievous grimace.

"That's cute-- you thought I meant like a... body guard?"

Well, her amusement was clear enough, and when she neared the man once more she tapped at the acquired gear he had assembled. But she shook her head, and pried one finger into a hook at the makeshift chest-plate. "It's a shame because I looooove the look of all this sophisticated gear on you, but you make a much better... how do I put this... prisoner." Swaying to the side, and revealing the small mounted datapad on her wrist, she recalled a hologram pad of a few coded commands. A single blip of the screen summoned the marching noise of metal on metal. Droids.

Though they didn't look as crude as before. Where deadly mechanical parts had been before, now the droids were covered in a waterfall of aesthetic fabrics so as to appear more grand than the average rubble. "You see, there's obviously someone here who wants you... am I wrong? Why not make them look for us?" It was a bold plan, and perhaps a bit more risky than she was readily willing to admit, but her strong recommendation. In total, ten of her commissioned protection droids surrounded her, their massive bulk still unwaveringly intimidating against the ornate makings of the ship's entrance hatches.

One day, all her tricks and play on words would come to bite her in the royal backside, and Kail would just laugh when it did. Stood in the lobby ready to move and act the mercenary he was born to be, her words started to douse the fire inside him of finding the Rodian’s after his head and her life.

Kail opened his mouth to speak up but stopped when Xenia clapped, like someone who had the world in her palm as the unmistaken sound of a small army started to echo before them, coming closer – metal on metal and in perfect unison.

”Prisoner?”

The blast doors opened and the deadly looking droids marched into the room. Kail still didn’t know what to make of this girl, she was totally unpredictable and quite dangerous, and this was one of the reasons he had never worked with anyone before. Now he was facing a legion of faceless killers and grinning royal princess.

Swallowing, licking his bottom lip and scratching the back of his head. Three nervous traits and three habits he had to kick. His eyes moved across the droids, taller and looking far more deadlier and imposing than he could ever wish to be, and then brought them down to Xenia who looked like the nexu that had the cream.

Kail sighed, shook his head and held his arms out wide.

”You’re going to regret this.”

Well, that was consent if she'd ever heard it from the man before. At least he was implying an understanding that it was going to happen; whether he liked it or not, perhaps. She smirked at the submission rearing its head once again, and motioned to one of the imposing mechanical humanoids. "NN-2, remove his weapons." Although there was no reason to, she was dropping 'into character.' The large droid covered the distance in a single stride and grabbed at the armor-- somehow smoothly, and without much noise. She moved to the side a bit, and motioned for one of the droids to give her something. It did. A small assortment of, actually, numerous things, all of them small and none of them instantly recognizable.

"Alright, here's the plan. I've arranged a plan to meet with one of Rodia's inhabitants. Kiboon Tazo, a lower level political entity I've, well, butted heads with in the past. His views are, well, we'll have to watch our backs."

Stepping back so that she faced Kail again, she'd wait for the droid to unravel most all of the gear Kail had retrieved for himself. Naturally, she'd save it all, or at least set the stash aside for when he'd come collect it in the near future-- as that was the plan. "Kiboon Tazo has recently signed off on numerous bills passed by the vary Rodians I killed when we were here last. I'm certain he's aligned himself with them in the past, and there's no reason to believe they're not still working alongside one another." Offering the contents of what she held she gestured to each piece.

"If I'm at all correct about this, Kiboon will contact whoever's leading these strikes with the news that Kail, you, has been apprehended and readily awaits collection. I'm sure he'll come, and if not him, then someone directly related-- someone who knows where he is."

A slightly more stout droid made its way through the NN-2 Fronts, emitting a weak scanning noise. Pointing, Xenia explained the droid. "NN-1 Sonic Droid, capable of launching a sonic attack that can and will immobilize anyone not expecting it. We'll be expecting it," she held up a small set of what looked like ringed ear insertions. "These," she looked to the devices, then back to Kail, "will protect us from that sonic attack, but we'll have to make sure we're in an enclosed area before we make use of this. Being the only ones capable of movement and function should make it easy enough to kill whoever we want... thoughts?"

Kail sighed as the hulking droid pulled the rifle off his back, took the sidearm and then hoisted the armoured vest over his head, stopping to let Kail pull his tan shirt back down so he wasn’t topless and humiliated at being stripped by a droid.

The mercenary rubbed his eyes as Xenia talked about her connections and plans. No matter what she said, she had stripped him of his armour and weapons and he was as much use to her as he was when she had him incapacitated on the Firespray ship weeks ago.

Weeks ago? Time had flown.

Holding onto his wrists, he looked at the droids and equipment as she talked and took it all in, but without anything to protect himself, he was going to submit to the droids and to Xenia to make sure he didn’t lose his head.

”Nope. Crystal clear to me. Use me as bait and pray it works. I get it.”

Leaning in to Xenia, he whispered to her ear.

”Until we’re clear, I don’t trust you right about now.”

Being stripped and handed to the very people she had set out to do when she had him on Tatooine, Kail’s defences were back up and he wouldn’t hesitate to break bone if he saw the tables turning on him once again.

Xenia's frown was brief, as it was rather hard to feign surprise. After all, she had jerked Kail right back out of his comfort zone and thrown him into yet another tricky situation. It was likely that something would go wrong, as it always did, but this time she wanted to be more than prepared. Story after story she had created in her head for the hypothetical event that she'd meet a handful of those she deemed 'likely enough' to encounter. Lower level senators, and other political bodies-- though in truth she spent little to no time dealing with Rodia as a noble. Instead, her dealings with the planet came from her bounty hunting. Thrill seeking which had only ever actually brought her to the planet itself once. Different city. This was all new.

"Okayyy... it does sound a bit risky... for you, but I'm not hearing you come up with anything brilliant either. I'm not a wanted criminal-- yet-- I can't just run out into the Rodian wilderness with a gun and my--"

She had just about to title him, though quickly drew her lips to a close. "My..." But she failed again. "My... companion," a carefully picked word, you can be sure, as it covered everything and anything she wanted to justify it as later should she need to do just that. Though there was that awkward roll of the face, as if smelling something a bit off-putting and the flickering of someone unable to maintain steady eye contact for long. Companion-- god how she wanted him to tear that title apart, and forge a new one in its place. But she could never properly ask, any attempt she'd make would be passive aggressive at best.

"And I'm not leaving you defenseless. These sonic droids are going to cripple anything and everything without these auditory protectors, we'll be free birds in a room of floored victims. Plus--"

She held up the other, smaller objects she had gathered before. "These are something I've just developed," though she shot Kail a glance to see if his interest was at all peeked. Developed, implying the means of development beyond, perhaps, someone's own personal creation space. A business? Nastass-Tech was yet unknown to the mercenary, and she wanted so badly to share herself with him-- only, to do so would be in violation of nearly every 'self-protection' code she had built for herself thus far. Conceal identity, and keep the two separate. Kail already blurred those lines, and already knew of her wealthy disposition.

"MH-Chips, uhm, explosives. Concealed, undetectable by scanners, placed over your molars-- just don't bite down hard on them."

Finally there was a droplet of humor in her voice again, and the tense nervousness she had been displaying seemed to dispel. "These things aren't gunna blow a building up, ha-- but they can fry the smaller annoyances, like cameras, door locks, even droids when you know where to put 'em." Her plans hadn't been going all to well so far, but the same could be said for Kail. Their opponents were the Rodians, tricky, clever people with the minds of deceptive hunters; though acting out of cowardice, a dangerous negotiation tool.

She looked beautiful when the sun hit her, albeit a rather worn out sun. Mid day though it was, it seemed all light was strained and made to suffer through the surrounded gases and mists of the planet. Green hazes and thick bogs of darkening color, almost throwing off her color scheme without affecting its style. Had she noticed it, even, she might have merely thought it to match the planet that much more-- as it was clear, clear, clear she was an outsider. The hatch hardly even squealed or hissed at being opened, and was not so simple as to merely slide from one side to the other. Instead, it was a series of four panels, all with rounded edges, which swung in a spiral to reveal the landing bays beyond her.

... Company was already there, waiting.

Without the ability to place a name on three of the five men standing off under the coverings of the port some distance away, she hardily recognized the two others. One a rodian, one a bith, and both members of opposing views. More than once, each had attempted to blockade her peace efforts on surrounding systems, and pushed hard against her various bills. Sucking in a shallow breath, the face of a liar came over her own, masking her emotions in smooth silence. Motioning to the closest droid, Kail still out of view, she made the quick "binders, now," command and watched as the hand-cuffs were placed over Kail's wrists.

"That's... not who I was expecting... I have a bad feeling about this... stay close behind."

She loved taking charge, being the first to leave, and having the others follow her. Surrounding Kail, the droids would box him in, one at each corner until four acted as psuedo prison walls. Their crimson cloaks did make them a bit unreal looking, the read light from their almost disconnected heads blaring from right, to left, to right, to left. Scanning procedures, under Xenia's orders of caution. They had no real intention of keeping Kail imprisoned, though they would maintain the act for as long as their owner and master wished it. When she walked, the fabrics of her gown flew around her in a maddening flurry of fine color, though never to the extent of risking her modesty. Quickly, her stunning visage caught the eyes of her welcoming party, and they too began to near her. In total, there were the four Front Droids surrounding Kail, and a single sonic droid, tucked neatly away in the back.

Her greeting, and their own, was entirely hollow. Fake, overused smiles which were common among politics. This was more of a bounty than a political convention, really. Though it felt strange, as she was carrying it out as Xenia-the-noble. Her own rules applied, and she was required to keep face. Senator-to-be Mun Kiiza, one of the Rodians she had been unable to place correctly, was introduced, and she bowed respectfully. It seemed, this was the man responsible for allowing her safe passage onto the world and the welcome she would receive. He inquired almost instantly about Kail, speaking through rough basic than caught Xenia off guard at first. The rest of the company were lower level grunts of the complicated galactic society of hierarchy. Powerful enough in their own ways, though not in a major way. When she motioned back to Kail, she was met with the blank stare of droids.

"I trust this man will be... handled with the full course of law, yes?"
"The law? Why yes, of course," A neimoidian spoke.
"I'm encouraged by your words, Salama," she delivered with a submissive nod.

"Of course, the law can be tricky to abide by at times, Lady Xenia--"
"Mun, I will not conduct an action of deliberate violence. I bring him-- this... bounty hunter here out of proper justice."
"Juuuustice?" The Neimoidian, Salama, inquired.

"I'm to understand his crimes begin here? With the death of Rodia's own senator?"
"Ahh-- yes, yes m'lady."
"Then should he not face Rodian law? I think you'll find he's easy enough to handle..."

When she glanced back at Kail, this time her head fully out of sight, she winked. The shadow of a smile at the left corner of her mouth was one of comfort. A 'how are you hanging in there?' or 'everything seems to be going over well!' Too well, actually, though she was all to caught up in her own act to notice the undertones of deceit on the tones of each repulsive alien before her. Three rodians, two neimoidians, one of which seemed only to serve as a lackey for Salama, an up-and-coming CEO on his home world. The rest of the conversation was rather light, and they turned to move to more secure holdings-- the almost ancient looking, nearly unimpressive buildings of the underdeveloped world.

Conversation seemed to dwell on how she got here, how she detained the man, and what exactly her recent developments meant for Nastass-Tech. Assuming Kail was paying attention, a trained warrior after all, shaped and hardened by experience, he would begin to piece together everything about her. She dismissed most questions as every politician did, answering only what she wished to answer, regardless of the question, and instead countering with her own questions-- questions which seemed a bit harder to avoid. She had mastered this game long ago, as an act of independence and, well, self-preservation. They seemed ever inquisitive about her, though, exactly who she was with, her plans of future development, and details on the very droids which followed them. She didn't lie, either. But she spoke with enough complexity to only give off smaller bits of information to untrained ears, like Kail's own. Lingering in the fine tuned lines of enacted bills and various movements of the past. She did admit to running the massive company, as well as announcing that it was homed back on Naboo, though had homes on many other words as well. The droids, 'protection' droids, were but a small sample of what she had, and she spoke of them in full confidence.

Finally, they seemed to have reached their destination. It wasn't on the outskirts, exactly. But it wasn't in the core by any means. Skeptical eyes studied everything she could grab with greedy haste before she looked back to the ground and entered. The droids followed her, and Kail with them. Lead in by the neimoidian, and following the rest of her picked-up-party, she was instantly introduced to more bodies. This time, a majority of them were human-- yes, majority, as in numerous. About five more, to be clear, and instantly she felt as if her guard was thrown up against them. Lavish in weaponry of their own sorts, and equipment which seemed entirely unneeded for their proceedings here, Xenia gave a withdrawn smile and nodded.

The human who stepped forward, apparently the one responsible for taking Kail into custody, spoke with a charming enough voice. But charming in a way which made Xenia's fingers clench under the long sleeves which hid them. This was dangerous, and she was beginning to feel it. Another Rodian was in the room, as well, though he seemed to regard Kail with hatred-- did they know each other? Quickly she was introduced, the neimoidians uncanny accent seemed only to highlight the tension of the room. Had she not brought the droids, she might have already threatened with her blaster-- thankfully a tactic she would not be forced to resort to here. Jas Kana, the human, head of security on Rodia, regarded Kail with testosterone filled victory. "Finally, this man is brought to justice on Rodia. You have no idea how important this capture is, Xenia, what is it you're demanding in return?" The Rodian who had already expressed much interest in Kail's... justice, asked with rubbing hands. To which the noble frowned.

Everyone was here.
Everything seemed ready to launch.

"You misunderstand my position, I am here to claim no reward."

Turning to regard Kail, she spoke with a 'coded' voice.
An act, though once convincing enough to fool those without prior suspicion.

"Knowing this man is no longer a threat I'll have to contend with, alone, brings happiness back into place at my core."

Her tone was cool, collected, perhaps more fit for Naboo's Queen.
It was, after all, a birth right of sorts, though on she wasn't sure she'd ever chase.

"How does it feel, bounty hunter? I hope it was worth it..."

Profile Information.

Summary [_run] -- A list of those with Xenia currently.

Mun Kiiza [_profile_run] -- Rodian politician with a swelling fan base on Rodia. Recently, Mun was nominated to take the place of senator, and is in the middle of inheriting wealth in numerous forms on his home world. It is seemingly Mun Kiiza who's put out the hit on Kail, and without knowing it placed Xenia under that same attack. Primary target.

Kuupa Toi [_profile_run] -- A rather silent Rodian and a temporary replacement for one of the Rodians Xenia killed previously on world. He's unaware of her involvement it seems, however. Target.

Szisk Freedo [_profile_run] -- Under spoken Rodian set as the other replacement for the second-Xenia-killed Rodian. Again, like Kuupa, Szisk seems to be wholly unaware of Xenia's involvment with the dispatching of previous would-be-superior. Target.

Salama [_profile_run] -- A Neimoidian, though less of a politician and more of business owner back on his homeworld. He was of little consequence, and his presence here seemed to be more based on relations with Xenia's own Nastass-Tech than anything more. He knew what looked like very little, and would more get in the way than serve as a threat. Not a target.

Spix Garl [_profile_run] -- Salama's assosciate of sorts. More than likely an underling and manager of Salama's own business. No consequence, and not a target.

Jas Kana [_profile_run] -- A human, in charge of security-- even global security, with access to higher-up command on most of the planet. His career was much a mystery to Xenia, but she knew she'd be dealing with him. She hadn't thought to put too much time into research on him, and he seemed to be as clean as an Rodian official; not very clean at all. Additionally, he's surrounded by four armed guards, all dangerous. Probable target.

Duupa Moi [_profile_run] -- An almost discolored Rodian behind Jas Kana, suspicious but without notoriety. Never had Xenia seen him, nor did she know anything about him other than that he wore what looked like the cloaks and robes of someone with some level of importance. His presence was unknown. Possible target.

His face a blank canvas, Kail looked at Xenia and listened to her. Right now he didn’t know what to expect, or who to trust. Their meeting with the Rodians would soon tell him that, but he hadn’t expected to be nearly surrounded by soldier droids, stripped of his weaponry and lectured to by a princess.

He took the MH chip in his hands, rolling it around the palm as she explained, but rather than risk putting it inside his head where a flick of a switch could paint the walls with his brain matter, Kail acted as if he slipped it under his molar, but let the chip roll down to his palm and stay in his hand.

Kail swallowed and stretched his neck gently left and right, ignoring the emotional riddle Xenia was spouting. Only when she commanded for the restraint to be fixed did her perk up – his senses focused and he sighed softly as the pain in his jaw flared up again. But, for once, he decided to use the pain and have it control him.

Gripping the explosive chip, Kail was bound by a hulking droid and then boxed in. Looking around at nothing but towering figures of metal, machinery and circuitry, he adjusted his stance and waited. The ship groaned and blast door ramp lowered before them, letting in the humid are instantly. Xenia started to walk out with radiance to each step, mirrored in an ugly way by the unison march of the droids surrounding her “prisoner”.

Down the ramp to the welcoming committee, with a dangerous looking drop to the side where the giant ship was docked and the Rodian city behind them, complete with a small lake billowing off the edge into a cascading waterfall, glinting in the sun to cast a small rainbow in the spray. It would have been rather picturesque for the mercenary had he not been restrained and held before warlords and criminals.

Kail didn’t offer the Rodians, humans or equally shifty Neimoidians any acknowledgement. He simply waited, breathing in slowly and racking his brains for the best course of action. Looking at his hands held down before him, Kail heard Xenia talking to the criminals but didn’t take in much of her words. He didn’t have time to rest before the droids shook the ground and began moving again, following their leader as they began to walk around the city – not the outskirts, but not into the centre either.

A human spoke up, speaking around Kail as if he was sizing up a meal, but he knew without the security of the droids and his entourage, the human wouldn’t have said a word. He had a face inviting a fist, and Kail would remember it. Next, Xenia came before him between the front two droids. Kail could tell she was speaking in another hidden code, hinting at what to do next.

"How does it feel, bounty hunter? I hope it was worth it..."

Kail wasn’t going to play by the covert rules of a dignitary anymore; he was a mercenary after all. He had nothing to lose.

In a lightning move after meeting her gaze, he leaned right and threw the explosive chip forward, across the path of the front right droid and immediately span Xenia around, looped his bound arms over her body and pulled her close to him; a gorgeous human shield.

”Explosive, front right! Xenia Nastassia , save her!”

It should be enough, and it was, with the sudden burst of exclamation from the Rodian welcoming party, but it was also enough for the warrior droid to bring up his blaster and hone in on the explosive chip, sending two blaster bolts out to it. The first missed, the second hit a second later.

The resulting explosion was enough to take out the one known as Spix Garl in a burst of blood and flame, knocking the others back and causing the droids to immediately burst into life, hulking masses bringing their weapons out in force. Kail brought Xenia down to the hard floor, holding her tight and pulling her up to ensure she was in front of him.

”Oh it’s been VERY worth it, thanks sweetheart. Now call them off!”

Well, again, the flow of her naturally perfect plan was being interrupted. And from the inside this time, from her own side. She hadn't at all expected the sudden rush of movement and as a consequence was powerless to stop it. Her eyes flared like those of a frightened horse, and her body reeled round just before the explosion. It was clear the others had the same level of confusion battered displacement-- in this, she wasn't alone. Fire engulfed the room for a hot second, more than likely killing those who had been caught in the red rage, and she staggered back. Back, right into the hands of her new captor. Those strong arms, arms which could break her if they needed to, grappling at her small frame. The numerous aesthetic talismans and hanging metal pieces about her head lost their worth now, instead becoming a hindrance. A course shock left her lips in momentary awareness and then a pained shriek.

No, no!
No, this couldn't be happening!
What was he thinking?!

It only seemed a blurred scene of chaotic cinematics from her floored position, the droids around her quickly taking the situation under their control and sending volley after volley of blaster into the room, a room which was now cloaked in smoke and the stench of burning skin. One of the droid warriors took up a position just in front of the two, its royal robes more than masking them at its posterior. "K-Kail, wha-- why--?" But she was cut off, a struggle of her own body taking over instead of trying to reason with him. There was no point, this had already gotten out of hand, and she had been unable to activate the--

With a looming step back, the droid which had been protecting the duo began to fall, the blaster fire of the opposing force beginning to take its toll on the armored vessel. A seemingly random final spray of blaster fire which seemed to strike one of the Rodians about five times before he collapsed to the ground, and the droid was done. Like a tree, it fell. Sending an impressive punch of the elbow into Kail's side, she broke free and rolled just in time to avoid being crushed. Words were now being shouted, but she had not the wit to focus on them and on the scene around her. Something about her knowing this would happen, Neimoidian accent, and the another, calling her a traitor. She... she was in danger, she could feel it, somehow. Directly. Something bad was--

Trying to fish for her own weapon among the now twisting whirlpool of crimson red fabrics which engulfed her, she had only a moment to see that her sonic droid had been blown to pieces by seconds of concentrated fire, though the males who had been shooting now lay in a pile, collapsed over one another in lifelessness. And then that pain. A sound, a whizzing sound, and a sizzle. It didn't hurt at first, disbelief acting quickly with denial and adrenaline to mask what she had just encountered. But she fell to her side nevertheless. A low groan of pain, and then it happened again, this time impossible to shrug off. A blaster, the second of its kind and from the same barrel, burrowed deep into her side, only a few inches from the previous. A twin shot, now smoking holes on the fragile female. Tears of frustration and deeply rooted wrinkles of a cringing face were all she left before she submitted, like a snake, to the ground below her.

This was Kail's fault...

No doubt, the droids would make relatively quick work of the remaining resistance. The surprise of their attack had appeared extremely effective, though these slimy creatures were always on the lookout for such bold efforts of defiance from their dangerous captives. Never from the clean cut ambassadors of Naboo, though the cards had been thrown, and the will of fate had already rolled its dice. One last look, that's all she'd give to Kail, a look of first betrayal and then anger. Unanticipated rage, though short lived.

Then blackness...

Kail intended the diversion to work, and it did – more than he thought, or probably needed.

As the explosion rocked them all inside the room, blaster fire and confusion erupted from the Rodians and the droids surrounding Kail and Xenia, now on their back and surrounded by debris and charred bits of flesh.

He could hear Xenia trying to speak but she was best to wait until he could hear her.

”Just hang on!” Kail shouted, to deaf ears, but he still did.

A volley of blaster fire beside him made Kail wince, as sparks flew from the droid who had taken out explosive chip, sparking and smoking with a groan of metal on metal. It was coming down. Eyes wide and about to move, Kail suddenly lost his breath as Xenia elbowed him, enough to slip under his arms and roll away.

Grimacing in pain, the mercenary didn’t wait either and rolled the opposite way to the edge of the room amongst a fallen guard as the droid came down with a satisfying thud and small flick of flame, effectively separating Xenia from him.

Cursing, Kail crawled on his belly as the fire fight started to end, and a blast of air came in from a door on the far side where figures tried to barge out of away from the massacre. Now he just had to reach her and get out of there. Seeing her stand amidst the smoke and flame from the droid, Kail was about to call out when a figure, a Rodian, emerged beside her with a blaster.

Watching on, he couldn’t do anything – the Rodian fired once, sending Xenia rigid for a second before she fell, and another shot rang out, making her body arch and go limp on the ground. In a split second, one she had come to deal with had shot her – in the back, like a coward. Kail had pulled the trigger by creating the chaos.

His blood ran cold and his mouth fell in shock, and anger, wanting to shout, scream, roar – nothing came. Sparks fizzed around his dirty body and time seemed to freeze.

”No, no no…”

Pulling himself forward, wrists still bound, he watched as the bastard Rodian ran over towards the open door, followed by one of the droids breaking into the city. Screams and blaster fire followed, but inside, only one droid remained stationary, a smoking blaster rifle torn in two in its iron grip and smoke rising from its emotionless head. Blood, smoke and debris coated the room, but Kail crawled through burning metal and flesh to reach her, lying motionless on the floor.

He decorative headgear was half off her head, and her gowns were as dirty as they were the first time they had got into a scrape – but now, her hand was covered in blood and her robe was sodden with crimson life on her side. Kail was panicking, ignoring the pain and fear in his body and looking for something to help her, as the cauterized wounds looked fatal.

Pushing back the blackened headgear, Kail took Xenia’s head gently in his hands and turned her to see him.

”Xenia, come on talk to me, come on…”

The twinkle in her eye seemed to extinguish at the same time he saw the love for him die in her small frown, on that beautiful young face.

”I didn’t mean for this to h – don’t leave, don’t…! DON’T!!”

Shaking her gently, Kail gritted his teeth as her eyes closed on him and her body went limp.

A burst of breath escaped Kail’s mouth, accompanied by a frustrated growl and wretch. Adrenalin shot through his fingers and toes and he wanted to explode with confusion and anger and hurt as Xenia went from him in a heartbeat.

”Son-of-a…!!”

He pushed down into his boots on the floor, fighting a rage inside him that was boiling over. His actions had killed the girl stealing his heart; the girl offering him salvation from the darkness; a girl offering him life.

But he had acted irrationally and now he had taken away her life.

Matsu had broken him. Xenia had saved him. Kail had killed part of Matsu with his actions, and now had killed Xenia with them once more.

Resting his trembling hand on her forehead, Kail inhaled slowly and clamped his eyes closed before rubbing his temples. Pushing up on his knees, he stood up amidst the debris and backed away to the archway they had come through; glancing back at Xenia lying motionless amidst the bodies of those that Kail had led straight to her.

He felt the bile rise in his throat. He span out of the doorway to race back to their ship and get a craft – away from the ship and the memories he had now destroyed; to get away from Rodia and away from Xenia and back to Tatooine to kill the ticking time-bomb that was Kail Ragnar once and for all.
