The constant hum of the shield wall that enclosed the 50 square foot room rang in the dreams of the Selkath that it imprisoned. He couldn't escape it, at first it was almost soothing, now just a constant reminder of the months of time he had spent within these walls. His eyes shuttered open to reveal scenes that were very familiar to the former Deputy CMO of Ahto City. Three metallic walls, a cot, a waste system, and a small desk with a few personal items including a plant framed the rather small room. The mind of the Selkath began to wander as it did most days, he couldn't bare the thought of being in here anymore. Which one of his colleagues would be that overly ambitious that they felt the best way to rid Zon from being elected, would be to put him in a cell? All the good doctor wanted to do was help the citizens of Ahto City and further his goal of representing Manaan on the galactic stage, but now it seemed his home-world was the last place he wanted to be. They had spurned him, no one coming to his aid, the individuals that held the most power only seemed to look out for themselves. He would always hold his people close to his heart, but there would be no future for him here anymore. Zon hadn't seen any of the galaxy in his short life, in fact up until now he was so dedicated to his people and his home that he never considered leaving. At this point though, it's all the young Selkath could think of. What was out there waiting for him in the vast expanse of galactic star systems?
Though, the future was looking bleak. It had been weeks since he gathered together the funds to send out a cry for help to the nearby systems. Doctor Azrah was losing hope, his mind seemingly crumbling day by day. His only saving grace, the exploration of the unknown, a gift he always knew he had but never dared to traverse. A mysterious force in his life that with incredible concentration and determination had helped him save one or two patients who seemed to be a lost cause. He had always suppressed this ever present feeling with his work being more important to him, but now with all of this time he had, why not?
His legs swung around to meet the cold floor, finally sitting up for the day. The constant hum still echoing through his mind, his eyes closed to concentrate on it. Zon had been digging deeper in deeper into to this feeling for days now, it seemed he had been making a little progress. The shroud of mystery and unknown clouded his vision, yet he was able to see without actually seeing. The plant perched upon his cold lifeless desk illuminated within his mind, he could somehow feel this plant, he could really see it. He felt a deep connection to this plant from within his soul, without any real sentimental attachment to it. He thought of how beautiful it was and wished he could experience this connection on a greater scale, but alas there seemed to be no hope for that in sight.
Bang Bang
A loud knock on the outside of his cell brought the Selkath out of his trance, an investigation interrupted. One rather plump Selkath revealed himself on the other side of the shield wall, a slight grin exposed the nasty demeanor of the Warden. "Only 30 more years to go Doctor!" said the Warden, chuckling as he moved to mentally torture whoever else was awake. Zon sighed, not trying to give in to the Warden's sick games, he went back into his concentration with the hum still ever present.
Outside of the Ahto High Court stood one former member of it, Zon's mother, Sheese Azrah. Now shunned from all civilized society for her insistence in her son's innocence, she protested to anyone that would listen. Any citizen that could hear her plea, she let it be known, including those now members of the court as they moved about their duties every day. She had become a nuisance to their work and often walked the tight line between freedom of speech and disturbing the peace. On any given day she could be found outside of the court, she had nothing else. Zon's father had returned to an underwater settlement, not truly believing his son, ashamed of who he thought he had become. But Sheese still had hope, she still fought day in and day out for her sons freedom.
