Boost Scar Worlds: Graymarket Run (Scar Worlds, Rimward Trade League, Darkwire, Hutt Space Consortium)

Guest
T
Hustlers and traders and dubious humanitarians
are converging on the heart of the Scar Worlds,
no matter what borders and conventions get in the way.

The Bryn'adul left these territories a hungry wasteland.
Refugees and rebuilding efforts clamor for goods of every kind.

There's gold in them thar hills.

1) START in any hex belonging to a major faction. (It's in your interest to begin in SJO, NIO, Enclave, or AC territory.)
2) END in the orbit of Draemidus Prime, the ruined Bryn'adul homeworld. You don't need to reach the end for your work to be honored, but you will get a greater share of the take.
3) Your route is up to you. To advance your route from hex to hex, you need to make a trade/smuggling-related connection in that hex with one post, e.g. by doing one of the following:
  • In the Boost thread, send a trade-related transmission to someone (character, faction, company, whatever) who has an established presence on a world in that hex. Honor system.
  • Write a post (e.g. an RP snapshot or captain's log or holojournal) visiting a world in that hex for trade-related reasons or, if necessary, shore leave.
4) At the end of the Boost thread, prize UCs will be distributed proportionately based on how many Trade Points you've accumulated.
  • 1 hex visited = 1 Trade Point + an extra Trade Point if the goods you're buying/selling there are directly relevant to a planet in that hex. (Congratulations, you sold tasty insects at a hungry refugee settlement on Kubindi! Have an extra point.)
  • The planet you visit has an established (on Wookieepedia or in Codex) shadowport/black market = 2 extra Trade Points.
  • Getting a reply to a transmission (as mentioned above) in the Boost thread = 1 extra Trade Point.
  • Smuggling or otherwise criminally getting through a border = 3 extra Trade Points, just don't make a mess and get the Major Factions breathing down my neck.
  • Successfully reaching orbit of Draemidus Prime with your final post = 5 extra Trade Points.
  • Hefty trade engagements (maybe some of you barter between yourselves, or you and your transmission buddies go back and forth for a few posts) = a few extra Trade Points at my discretion.
  • I reserve the right to toss you a couple extra Trade Points for interesting things like using nonhuman characters, flying cool ships, visiting your own homeworld, appropriate fades to black, etc.
Most likely, by the end your route has crossed half a dozen hexes and you've racked up at least a dozen Trade Points. No posting order necessary, just don't post back-to-back with yourself. Please keep track of your Trade Points with each post. Again, honor system. I'll be participating (mostly to set examples and keep things moving) and will cut my Trade Points in half at the end.

Aeshi Tillian Aeshi Tillian Daiya Daiya Gorba the Hutt Gorba the Hutt — if you'd be so kind as to tag your respective folks, I'd appreciate it.

874 ABY — WOBANI, ADJOURNING THE FETH AWAY FROM SJO AND NIO BORDERS

The mud was ryvving everywhere. It clogged the filters of Tayrankii's trusty breath mask, and the intakes, and the outlets, and the lenses for that matter. The mask and all associated mud took up half the volume of her backpack.

The other half, though muddy indeed, constituted trade goods. Wobani offered little except mud and hard labor, some of it voluntary. The planet didn't exactly bristle with value. But she'd picked up some ingots of scatrium from nearby Ingo, and that ill-gotten scatrium would fetch a solid price in the Scar Worlds. Good metal, scatrium. Machinists used it, and traditional bladesmiths from a couple species. Not a bad way to start an expedition.

Tayrankii slid into her pilot's seat with a squoosh of mud and started preflight. Next stop: Saleucami.

Aeshi knuckled her forehead in what had been her small trading post in Old Town. She had been doing good work here, hauling in foodstuffs and non-Imperial material. She'd even helped get a local Underground cell up and going. Then the bantha-fething Neo-Imperials or whatever they called themselves had come back and some fool had blown up an embassy.

Who blew up an embassy? It wasn't her Underground contacts, they swore it on Rubyflame Lake. It was some other group, possibly with COMPNOR or SIA instigation. They weren't sure, but they were going to go, well, underground. Keep quiet for a while after the declaration of martial law. Meant it was time to skip town. She had some refugees with her, a datacard of stolen Imperial codes, and a cargo hold full of foodstuffs. The datacard she slid under the captain's chair, in the shielded compartment, then bolted the chair back in place. Her small refugees, a small family of four, were tucked away inside the bunks, and her transponder was adjusted to be registered as the Bantha Bandit out of Raydonia.

Not that she intended to stop for any patrols. Instead, her sensors were at the highest as she studied the distant IFF markings of the various ships.

"Here we go!" Aeshi called back to the others, nudging the throttle forward until she was just above the Old Town one-story rooftops, weaving through the city at low altitude. The taller buildings trudged slowly past her until she was out past the city center and out into the wilderness.

That was the main key. Be discreet and below notice.

Once well outside the city and beyond surveillance, she tilted the nose up and angled towards atmo, accelerating to full speed. They would be seeing that, but she was too far away for any interference.

The atmosphere burned past and the black void of space stretched ahead of her. She could pick patrol ships on the sensors, but she ignored them, charting her next jump to the Nespis System and past the border.

SALEUCAMI

This dusty world, somehow the most vibrant spark in a barren system, offered few comforts. Tayrankii blended in well. She remained frankly unsure whether Saleucami counted as the Mid or Outer Rim, or even the Rim at all, but it definitely felt like the genuine article.

Deep craters sheltered the only real settlements or decent farmland. She put down at the edge of civilization to trade. A little of that scatrium, plus her stock of credits and old OPA talons, covered fuel and her new acquisition.

Butterflies.

Gorgeous four-winged carrier butterflies called Saleucami home. The clever little creatures could learn to repeat short messages — not to understand, but to mimic. Between that function and their status as pollinators, Tay had high hopes of finding a good price in the Scar Worlds. She lugged a stasis case aboard her nondescript old ship, but also opted to let a few of them fly free in the crew areas. They relaxed her — their unhurriedness, their willingness to please, their general good attitude.

Beings were working on a route. A route through the Rim and the Scar Worlds. Through the Bryn'adul destruction. Vooltroo was going to participate. He wasn't sure if it was something that would be useful, but there were chances of him being able to do what he did best.

Spread seeds.

Assist Mother Jungle's message in spreading and crossing the Scars.

The area that the Scar Worlds are located in was once called the Levantine Sanctum. There were great Force users working wonders of the dark and the light. Maybe that was what he was destined for. The Forerunners and Scar Worlds were always working on a number of exciting projects. And Vooltroo wanted to pass the message of the Jungle.

He had left Kattada, carrying corals from the Witches and his own personal store of seeds aboard the Jungle Vine, his personal Herdship. From the world of the Explorers, he and the crew that joined him set their sights farther. Maybe he could help the Forerunners at the same time as helping the Scar Worlds. He had dreams to repair the Bryn destruction. The Vine was docked on the Dawn Chaser for its jump out to the edge of Silver space.

He was picking at the wound.

As ever, the pain in the stump of his left hand grated at him. The Barabel's claws were too sharp to let it rest, ever since he'd lost it; he felt as though he were searching for some rest, yet ever he scratched, irritated, clawed.

There was no rest. He wanted a piece of this place.

He felt blood on his claws and finally stopped, placing the cybernetic back onto his stump, flexing the robotic fingers. He rose, then took care to prepare for the day.

It would be an important one. The Imperial Governorate was crumbling as their hold of the Parlemian slipped. The former Sith general Darjos Morcar's forces were not enough to stand against the Imperials, the Crusade, or the Jedi; now, they were not enough to stand against Xeykard. He would be the last Sith warlord in the Scar Worlds. This was another step on that path.

Xeykard walked into the bridge of the Crimson Fear, one of the few Star Destroyers left after the collapse of the Empire that was under his command. It'd been hastily renamed and painted red in his honor. Thus far he had taken no symbol for himself, keeping his 'loyalty' to the Empire, but soon he would stake his claim to these last territories, use his strength to make them his.

"Sir, we'll be exiting hyperspace shortly."

"Good. Our other forces have engaged?"

"Yes sir -- we're starting to have success over Folende, Desevro, and Minntooine. The rest will begin as soon as we arrive."

"Well done, admiral. It is time we remind Morcar who his masters are." Who his master is.

Soon enough, the fleet exited hyperspace above Chandaar. Like great waves in a storm, the Sith remnants crashed into each other, and the chaos resounded throughout the Scar Worlds.

In the hexes of Chandaar, Desevro, Folende, Minntooine and New Alderaan, fighting breaks out between two Sith remnant warlords. Xeykard, a Sith Inquisitor now at the head of a respectable force, takes the fight to the concentrated forces of Generalissimo Darjos Morcar, a humanocentrist imperial warlord.

Basically just adding some spice to the thread (with the eminent Tayrankii 's permission, of course). Feel free to react to the chaos of a space battle occurring (or having occurred) in the system you're trying to pass through. Don't forget that these are remnant forces; while the main battle probably involves several Star Destroyers and accompanying vessels, some might be as small as a cruiser or two hitting a defense platform. Up to you. Maybe there'll be bonus trade points involved.

Alternatively, come fight me. Or don't, I'm not your dad.

Geminj

The arrangement they had was top secret, she could raid sith ships and the Ashlans would look the other way provided all Sith artifacts were smuggled across the border and offered to them first. It worked for Cass, couldn't have the Ashlan fleet shooting at her while she stripped ordnance off of a sith frigate now could she.

Cass sat at the controls of the Parting Gift with her fighter pilot and lover Pix Tellisha. It was another nice trip for them, and this was a trader race, she only needed the shuttle, it could carry enough cargo while not using the amount of fuel the Kyber, hidden to the south, might spend

EN ROUTE FROM SALEUCAMI

Tay waved off a trio of blue carrier butterflies that called her commscan suite home. Their long rear wings trailed around like festival streamers — the most colorful things in the ship by far. Selling them was going to be wrenching.

"This message is for Zenva Vrotoa Zenva Vrotoa at Blood Hunter's Ironworks. Don't know if this number's still in service. My name's Tayrankii. I'm passing Sriluur shortly and I'd like to make arrangements to pick up a few of your classic Assassin speeder bikes, if they're available."

She flicked the old comm panel and squinted to make sure the message had gone out. Once it registered, she sent an entirely different message. This one went to a contact in the Hutt cartels ( Gorba the Hutt Gorba the Hutt ), asking about courier jobs out rimward.

Sriluur offered plenty of valuable trade goods. A little cash up front would unlock all kinds of possibilities. Aro'ruul embryos, for example — huge farm animals whose pheromones catalyzed crop growth. Tay had a line on a couple already, but a little cash...

One Week.

That was how long he had before he would run out of consumables and life support. One week and clear across the galaxy. It would be doable, but it was going to be a rather... unorthodox journey, to say the least.

It hadn't been often that Cassus had gone smuggling, as he had perceived it more profitable hunting Bounties with fewer associated risks. His perception was probably wrong, considering the amount of trouble he had gotten up to, such as infiltrating the CIS capital for kidnapping or hunting Jedi Masters and Sith Lords.

He had honestly done a lot of crap he probably shouldn't have walked away from but since taking up residence on Denon it just felt normal to him. So he didn't even really think much of it when an old contact asked if he could cross the black border of an autocracy for a time-sensitive smuggling operation. The Kobok, Ist-Ist was very hush-hush about exactly what was so important that he transport it to some force-forsaken rock literally across the galaxy in as little time as possible.

Something to do with a rebellion and ending corporate influence. Those were ideals he could get behind, so the job was an easy matter for him to take. Actually executing it, though? It was going to be a challenge. But not impossible. Having gone through a Hypergate before, he knew his own ship was likely too large to fly through into the gate without being noticed, so he opted to use a specially modified Solosuit, equipped with its PIKA droid for precision, and a Helldrive an appropriate navigation tool for the Netherworld.

Isk-Isk brought him to a free Telescope on Ast Kikorie, so he could get a good visual on the Bakuran Hypergate. Accepting the package, he gets into an optimal flight position...

... and goes straight to Hell.

He'd been lounging in a hookah den on Nal Hutta when the law caught wind of him. Way to ruin a nice afternoon, but they say there's no rest for the wicked. Nash Darklighter had to keep on moving. No doubt they were on him for the ship he stole last month. Shame he crashed it, he thought. It would have been a great help.

The man didn't possess his own ship, stuck at the mercy of anyone who would give him passage. He'd have to work for it, certainly, and barter his way from Nal Hutta to his destination: Draemidus Prime. No way the law would follow him there, which just left his competition. There was a frantic buzz around the cantina's of Nal Hutta about some lost Bryn'adul treasure. If Nash had a cred for every apocryphal story he'd heard of buried pirate treasure in the Outer Rim, he'd be rich enough to bury his own. But there was something different about this one. They'd all lived through the invasion, and the Bryn were certifiably real, with who knows what kind of plunder from their conquests sitting untouched at home.

Nash hitched a quick ride off of Nal Hutta aboard a tanker flying out to resupply the fueling station at Orondia. The captain told him with so many ships passing into Hutt Space these days the small world had trouble keeping up. Passage was free so long as Nash helped them deliver the Coaxium with no problems.

When the crew arrived at Orondia, they quickly unloaded the precious goods and sealed them away. The captain of the tanker assured everyone that piracy was uncommon this close to SJC space, but few were completely sold on his hope. They simply wanted to get back home as fast as they could.

As for Nash, he said his thanks and parted well. The Orondia fueling station was indeed bustling and he figured he'd have no problems finding passage deeper into the Scar Worlds.

"...and it turned out she could tie knots in the veils, so—"

Jerec broke off a deeply inappropriate conversation with a couple of firebreathing Glottalphib mechanics. He focused on Nash Darklighter, who'd just wandered past the airlock to the Infinity's Free.

"Hey spacer. You look like you need a berth." Jerec gestured at the airlock. A scratched-up window beside it revealed the flank of the big red freighter. "The good ship Infinity's Free, mobile yard for Quekko's Choice Ship Emporium. We're bound for the deep Scar Worlds on a trading run." Totally unrelated to the buzz about a Bryn'adul treasure, of course. "Could use a spare set of hands, and you look like you've done some time in the spacelanes."

Nash stopped as Jerec Asyr Jerec Asyr called out to him and approached the man.

"Is that right? Consider me yours if it gets me off this sad rock." Nash gestured to the barren land just beyond the airlock. Any other time and place and Nash would've kept on walking. But here it was different. Somebody was sure to knock him upside the head for thinking it, but the Outer Rim had to stock together to get by, especially now. It was nice being home, despite everything, where he could be recognized as the spacer he was and not the outlaw he'd become.

"I's born and raised on a ship, friend. The name's Nash," Darklighter extended a hand to the Ithorian but omitted his surname. He knew that cooperation, as necessary as it was, did not always equate with trust.

"Haulin' ships?"

As the Dawn Chaser was making its way to the edge of Silver Space, Vooltroo was prepping the world ship. The Dawn Chaser had a new and specialized bay for the use of some of the Sekotan vessels. A herdship was not a living and breathing, thinking entity, but she still needed life and certain extra… Part of this included access to a nearby solar source.

Once the Vine was released, among a few other smaller vessels, Vooltroo had ideas and machinations, but unlike most, they were helpful. Nimban was the first stop, it was here that he'd get an update to his mapping software. While leaving the Dawn Chaser did put Vooltroo in touch with the Starchasers and their mapping software, things were changing rapidly out in the Scar Worlds. His data was built off of the remains of the Levantine Free Space that lived out here, but that was decades ago.

There were scarred worlds out there, Mimban had its own ecosystem. Bringing seeds and living corals, that was what he was hoping to do. His ship was even tuned for the corals to thrive. According to the Blue Coral Divers, they could take in a recently turned ecosystem, but it would be a while before they were able to be satisfied. As the herdship was fueling and charging the batteries, Vooltroo was looking at the maps. Kwenn to Eadu… then out to Prime? Perhaps.

Jorus shook Nash's offered hand.

"This rock ain't so sad. Hell, I know an Aqualish dancer who...no, wait, that's on Hosk-240. Wrong rock."

He keyed open the airlock and went in.

"C'mon, I'll show you around. It's ships and ship parts for repair and retrofit. Next step is a switchback to Rorak 5, a black market station just inside Jedi territory. Plenty of good business there. We'll load up and head deeper into the Scar Worlds."

Nash went aboard the Infinity's Free and checked out the ships and parts it carried as they made their way back to Rorak 5. He wasn't keen on heading back into 'civilized' space, but he couldn't argue with his gracious host, and he knew Rorak 5 wasn't crawling with Jedi watchmen which was a plus.

There was nothing much at Rorak 5 for Nash, so after helping Jerec load up the ship he went to grab a drink before making ready to move on.

At the bar he ordered a simple beer to go. The barroom was filled with more talk of Bryn'adul treasure, of course. Nash doubted how many of the lowlifes talking it up had the funds, the drive, or quite frankly the audacity to pursue the rumors, which made Nash start to think about his own choices. Before his mind could board that train of thought and deter him, he remembered he had to get back to Jerec so they could ramble on.

Once the mobile shipyard left the Rorak system, they continued on down the Shag Pabol, one of the regions major arterial hyperlanes, towards Ylesia.

After her meeting with Heinrich Faust it was urgent to get back out of Ashlan territory, whilst the private arrangement served both sides well, the Grand Fleet of Ashla could not be fully clued in. If caught she could potentially be charged for piracy, particularly after the mess on cantonica.

Her power cores now snugly in the cargo bay, she headed to Florn. She had a number of Trandoshans aboard that wished to visit the planet to celebrate a birthday. The world was home to some extremely dangerous fauna that would be a great experience for the birthday boy, and if he didn't make it back alive, that was apparently a sign from some deity or whatever, cas stopped listening once their passage fee cleared and she was on her way.

Her Zeltron girlfriend was a little stressed by the trandoshans, their heightened sense of smell made them a particular nuisance for the pheromone laden beauty. "Run your beacon for me, H-type."

Captain Kyros scowled, "Is there a problem, officer?"

He tried to fly casual while sparing a glance over at the Firespray, fangs bared. Sly could just barely make out a gleaming beskar visor. Shortly after he broke orbit the patrol craft emerged from Lyran IV's gravity well. An amateur would have dumped their cargo but the duros kept his cool. This wasn't his first interdiction.

"Routine inspection. I need to see your title tabs, send me a ping."

"Transmitter's busted," the smuggler tried one last desperate gambit.

"Relinquish your flight controls for remote access."

With an exasperated sigh Kyros throttled up to full sublight, leaving the Firespray pilot scrambling to keep up.

"Boring conversation anyway."

The Idiot's Array took a few glancing blows while he made the calculations for lightspeed. Nothing his precious couldn't handle but Sly worried about the cargo. If even one of those bloodslugs escaped...yet they were considered an extravagant delicacy on Gamorr and thus worth a fortune in black market credits. He throttled back down, routing more power to the hyperdrive.

Sly's yacht vanished in a blur of pseudomotion just as the Enclave peacekeeper unleashed another barrage.

Day 0 - Hour 7

The benefits of wearing a starship like a second skin certainly came in handy, slipping in where you don't belong and avoiding targeting vectors. Cassus quickly discovered that consecutive hours of use could be very slightly uncomfortable. He enjoyed the thrill of flying about as much as he enjoyed riding a swoop bike, but even riding a swoop bike for 4 hours, let alone 8, got perhaps a bit less thrilling and a bit more painful.

It wasn't time for a break, but he felt like he needed something to engage his body dynamically a bit more than stiffly rocketing forward.

So he flew low, really low. Low enough he could punch the ground if he wanted to and send him into a crash-roll. This is when Cassus decided he wanted to test "litho-breaking" and orientated himself so that his feet would impact the surface. As soon as the gravel - or whatever the Netherworld was made up - sprayed into the air Cassus attempted break into a run. He was lucky that the landscape here was unusually flat. Had there been much in the way of pits or stones in his path his boredom induced adventure might have ended differently, and face first.

Working up a sweat, he eventually tired himself out and leapt in the air to resume flight, leaving the Swoop Flats behind.

There was a bounty for information from Codru Secundus, the Queen was eager to know how her species planet was fairing since the Bryn had collapses. She spend nearly 6 hours orbiting the planet, taking hundreds of images, scans and sampled. Once finished she messaged her contact on the world Princess Zolasha, co-ruler of Codru Secundus.

"I thought they smelled bad on the outside."

Captain Kyros nearly retched into his breath mask from the odor. His passengers, a small clan of gamorrean mercenaries, had seemed like easy credits. Only when the duros smuggler reached the shadowport on Syvris did he realize their stench would linger. Nestled in a lunar crater the air was thin here which came as a welcome relief.

After paying the right bribes Sly moseyed toward the nearest cantina. Heavy blasters strapped to his belt warned anyone desperate enough to confront a stranger away. He pushed through the saloon doors of a ramshackle tavern known round these parts as the Kowaakian Monkey Lizard. Several eyes glanced up and the duros made a point to stare them down until they minded their own business.

"Sullustan gin," he slapped down a few aurodium coins.

It took him a few moments to locate his contact. Sly tipped his hat at the Pyke sitting alone in a booth. Menacing trandoshan bodyguards made sure everyone kept well clear. With an idle gesture the spice dealer motioned him over. Captain Kyros finished his drink, lips curled in a lascivious grin.
