Group Name: The Great Clan Qosta
Classification: Crime organization
Headquarters: Point Nadir
Loyalties: Point Nadir, Nadir, Aver Brand, Loray Tares, Emryc
Group Sigil: See above
Description: Unlike the rest of the Great Clans, the monarch of Qosta is shrouded in perpetual mystery, rarely making an appearance outside their inner circle. Exactly like the rest of the Great Clans, Qosta is, too, out for making credits off the back of poor sods who are either too kind or too poor to know better. Either way – natural selection, right?
Hierarchy: Pa Qosta > Lieutenants > the Maws > the Inducted > the Grunts
Membership: Qosta soldiers are recruited directly from the districts under Qosta control, but to rise through the ranks is another animal altogether. Most people never make it past that; either they die to the enemy, or they die to the infighting. The tests to earn one’s name are arbitrary, unfair, and often conducted at a whim. People die. Those who survive evolve into criminals hardened enough to chip diamonds.
Dogma/Doctrines: Qosta places value above all (well, aside from money) on loyalty. Named soldiers are expected to – and do – put their lives on the line, daily, for the Clan. Those who’ve yet to earn their names must fight they way into the inner circle by proving that they can follow this tenet to the bitter end; if it means killing their own mother, so be it. Of course it’s difficult to ask for such unquestioning obeisance from criminals. Of course there are those who attempt coups of leadership. Of course nobody knows their names anymore, and of course they died a humiliating, quiet death in a ditch somewhere. For crossing Pa Qosta, one pays the highest price.
Curios: Tattoos
Goals: Stabilize their region of Point Nadir, expand into the Core, expand their repertoire, turn an ungodly profit.
Pa Qosta – Leader
[member="Emryc"] Qosta – Second-in-command
“Archie” Archon – Pa’s right hand
Halan “Pretty Boy” Ryger – Inducted
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Nobody can quite say when the Great Clan Qosta came to be, precisely. Unlike the rest, who advertised their presence and strength time and again, Qosta seemed to creep up on Nadir more than anything else. One day you’d have to watch out for shootouts on the way to the bakery; the next, rival gangs were cleared out and Qosta soldiers were patrolling the streets.
Out of all the Clans, the Qosta are perhaps the most just – insofar as justice has any meaning whatsoever on Point Nadir. Pa Qosta, though a lying criminal like everyone else, treats his people right. This has, over the years of Qosta’s existence, attracted a great many of recruits from all manner of backgrounds. It allowed the faction to grow exponentially every time they seized a new neighborhood, absorbing or annihilating all opposition as they spread their influence.
Among the three Great Clans that remain extant today, Qosta is debatably the most powerful, thanks in part to their leadership and its tightly-knit connection to the invisible guiding hands of the station. The camaraderie had developed when the new overlords had first come to take control of Point Nadir, and has persisted ever since then.
