The Great Equalizer (Kassey)

Location: Coruscant
ATTN: [member="Kassey Daklin"]

Sitting on an outcropping below the skywalk between building CU-784938 and CL-746580, Xaedrin once again stared up in wonder at the insane beauty of Coruscant. It never ceased to amaze him - the shear magnitude of it all. The thousands of citizens on the skywalks, the equal number of speeders streaming through the sky - it was too much for his senses to take in. The sun setting in the distance provided a magnificent backdrop to the tapestry of life. He'd seen the same hundreds of time, but each time it left him breathless. The skyway above him held sentients of countless species. Some of them Xaedrin recognized - a bothan, a mon calamari, an ithorian ... - while others were an absolute mystery. Others his age may have been able to recognize most of those species through school or experience. Xaedrin, however, had been given an entirely different upbringing. Since arriving on Coruscant, he had made his home in the lower levels of the city. Not the bottom levels - he didn't even know anyone who knew what was down that far - but low enough that reputable citizens avoided them. He'd never been to school. Everything he had learned he had learned either before he'd fled the Crystal Palace or on the streets trying to survive. Currently, he was quite a few levels above where he typically roamed. Jer'sen, a local street thug whom Xaedrin had slighted by not joining his gang yet again, was looking for payback. Xaedrin knew when he needed to lay low for a bit, and this certainly counted.

Leaning back against the cold, hard exterior of the building, he stared upwards at the stars. He'd been there, once. He half shuddered at the thought of going back into space, painful memories of his past worming their way into his head. Still, he wasn't quite certain if it was worse than what he had here on Coruscant.

He let his mind wander as he watched the bustle around him, imagining that he could almost feel the emotions of the people around him.

"GET BACK HERE DAKLIN!"

Was heard in the echoed streets of the lower levels. Kassey was running quickly out of there, so quickly one might thought that she used the Force! Okay, maybe not quite that fast, but still, she knew these lower levels like the back of her hand. The reason why there was someone after her was because she had just sliced into his account..and transferred quite a bit of money from his account to hers, and...well, he found out and decided to go after her.

While running, Kassey made sure to type in the security code on her datapad, but she did so while running, which caused her to trip and run into a few people who shouted curses at her in different languages. All Kassey did was throw her finger up in an offensive gesture and continue running, all the way to the lift that would take her back up the the surface. But as she entered the lift, she was able to see that she had lost the buffoon that was chasing her. Good, she thought to herself, and she let out a sigh of relief as it took her back up to the surface. Once she was there, she decided to hit a block of buildings to go in the back alleys. She sprinted through some of the dumpsters and things in her way, and all she saw between the buildings was the dull glow of lights that were fizzling out, until she saw something different.

Someone just standing there, between two of the buildings...and she stopped. Which, was good, because she really needed to take a breath. So, she slipped through and then walked slowly. "Oh, hi." Kassey began, and she leaned up against the opposite building that he was, and tried to keep a safe distance just so that he didn't think she was there to hurt him in any way. "Sorry..just...need to catch my breath...been...running for a little while...whew.." Kassey actually smiled and chuckled just a little bit.

Xaedrin's head whipped upright as a voice jarred him awake. He hadn't even realized he'd been falling asleep, it was just so ... peaceful up here. He hadn't been too far gone, apparently, because he caught her semi-awkward, 'oh, hi,' enough to make sense of it. The girl was around his age, attractive, and quite out of breath. A mischievous glint was in her eyes. Xaedrin liked that.

"Hi, yourself," he said, his lips curling involuntarily into a sheepish grin. "Running from anything in particular? Or is this just your standard exercise?" He wasn't trying to be smooth ... which was good, because there was nothing smooth about him.

Shaking the last of his tiredness away, he stepped away from the wall and moved to stand on the edge of the outcropping. Unceremoniously, he plopped himself down with his legs dangling over the side, his elbows resting on his knees.

With a smile on her face, while she continued to huff and puff a little bit, she could see that little grin on her face, which of course, then made Kassey smile in return. He was straight forward and asked her if she was running from anything in particular or if it was standard exercise. She tried to be smooth even though he wasn't, a small shrug of the shoulders before she followed his lead, and sat down only so that her feet would dangle. That was when she was finally catching her breath.

"You can just say that I might have made someone...not so happy." Kassey pulled out the datapad from her back pocket and held it in her hand for a moment while looking around. "But enough about me..I didn't think that I would see anyone around here at this time, and then I saw you...call me curious." Kassey could tell that he was around her age, at least, that's how he looked, and it made her feel like she was in some kind of company.

He watched as she sat down across from him, the small chasm between the two buildings only more pronounced. He was impressed that she didn't seem to care about the height. He hadn't found many who weren't terrified by the vertigo-inducing view downward into the bowels of Coruscant. Made someone 'not-so-happy', Xaedrin thought wryly. I know a thing or two about that.

"I'm not all that interesting, unfortunately," he said in response. "Just laying low for a bit." He glanced around, once again in awe of the massive industrial achievement that was Coruscant.

"I'm not from here originally, and I'm still blown away every time I come up here," he said with a shake of his head. "Do you ever get used to this?" He gestured around them at nothing in particular. "The buildings, the people, the height, the constant air-traffic - all of it. Does it ever become normal?"
