OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Most pirate ships are bought or stolen, but not the Gutless Mongrel - this 'beauty' was built by pirates, for pirates, albeit not without stolen systems and kidnapped engineers. It has since changed hands on numerous occasions, each new captain adding their own poorly documented flair. The end result is abnormally capable, when everything is working correctly; successful crews quickly learn the importance of capable engineers.
After the last in a line of captains was eaten by a pirate hunter, the vessel found itself confiscated and destined for the scrapheap. By exploiting a few bureaucratic loopholes, Greystone instead rerouted it to be auctioned - as the technical flaws 'add character', they were mostly left alone.
It goes without saying that the organisation installed discreet sensors to collect diagnostic data for future use.
It is equally apparent that future buyers are liable to remove these if they are found.

- The Gutless Mongrel has most standard systems and a variety of enhancements of dubious providence - some of them even work reliably!
- The Gutless Mongrel is covered in jury-rigged stealth tech; while not capable of invisibility, accurate scans of the ship are all but impossible.
- The massive spike that serves as the Gutless Mongrel's figurehead-of-sorts is studded with shield disruptors and ship-sized vibro-generators; this technological abomination is designed to pierce almost anything - at its centre is a walkway for boarding crews. Survival rates are so-so.
- The hyperdrive is remarkably good at microjumps, if somewhat prone to dangerous malfunctions - perfect for closing the distance quickly.
- Sensory Anomaly: The Gutless Mongrel is covered in jury-rigged stealth tech - the vast majority of sensors bounce off, are distorted, or read something else entirely. Stable targeting locks are borderline impossible and tractor beams slide right off.
- Chivalrous Conduct: The Gutless Mongrel settles fights by stabbing ships with boarding tubes.
- Mostly Functional: Sixty percent of the time, the Gutless Mongrel works every time.
