Over the millenia that the Jedi Order has existed in one form or another there have been hundreds of thousands of Jedi. A fraction of these Jedi, a small fraction learn to create the unique data devices known as holocrons. Though there are example of famous Holocrons, including the great holocron and the Holocron of Telos, there are many that some would consider insignificant. These holocrons were not forged by the great Masters of old, they were not created by the historians or the members of the High Council. They were made by the Masters, the Knights, the Padawans that were forgotten by history and tossed into the ethos of time.
Sometimes, it is these holocrons that hold the greatest secrets.
The Holocron of Sabene and Sabille Vao was forged past the end of the clone was during the initial rise of the Empire. It was not created within the Jedi Temple nor would it ever see Coruscant's lights. The Holocron was created within the dark recesses of the caves of Ilum, hidden away and kept there until the capture of it's creators.
Sabene and Sabille Vao were not the most noteworthy of Jedi in their time. They were not Anakin Skywalker or Mace Windu, they only met Yoda once and entered through the trials with no significant marks. They were Jedi however, twin Twi'leks brought to the Jedi by their mother as infants. They were raised in the years before the Clone Wars, taught the ways of the Jedi and brought up to hold up the tenants of the Old Republic. Sabene and Sabille were not the most powerful padawans, nor were they the most talented. Individually they proved to be on the weaker side for their age, neither really excelling in any one area. Together however, they made their mark.
The twins, when together, seemed to push past their own individual limits. They had a bond within the force, and through that bond they were made more powerful. Together they could do things that others only dreamed of. Instead of fighting for an hour, they could fight for a day, instead of lifting a boulder, they could lift a speeder. It seemed that when they were together the Twins could do anything. They quickly rose to the rank of Knight, their ceremony coming only a few days before the beginning of the Clone Wars.
As they ascended, the battles began and their true trials would begin.
It was the Clone Wars that truly tested the Twins, both Sabine and Sabille serving valiantly. They were placed with the 7th Mobile Infantry Division, a group of clones known for their roles as the vanguard of the invasion. It was here that Sabine and Sabille forged a close bond with their troopers, maintaining a close relationship with the Captain of the Division. The three lead the 7th through the greatest battles of the Clone Wars, Mygeeto, Felucia, Geonosis, and even Coruscant. The 7th and the Twins moved through the war, from planet to planet always at the head, always at the spear tip. Through fierce battle and heavy losses, a bond was formed between the Twins and their troopers a chain that was bound even to the end of the war and beyond.
When tragedy struck, when the Jedi were cut down by the hundreds by the very people they had come to call friends the 7th saw no exception.
Order Sixty Six was initiated, the Jedi dubbed traitors and the Clone Army of the Republic charged with their execution. Some within the 7th Mobile Infantry called for blood, others did not. The clones of the 7th argued, then fought. A skirmish broke out while Sabine and Sabille were on patrol, their friends, the clones of the 7th began to turn on one another, some siding with the Jedi they called friends and others calling for their execution. The slaughter continued until the Jedi returned, dozens lay dead, including the Captain on the 7th. Though the day had been one by those Loyal to the Jedi, the loss of their friends, the death of those they had fought with for years, and the betrayal of the Empire was too much for Sabille.
The Rutian Twi'lek parted from her twin, vengeance boiling within her blood. Sabine was left with the remnants of the 7th, one hundred and twenty three men, each ready to serve and protect the woman who they had called their General. Sabine took the 7th, not going after her sister but instead hoping for survival.
After their parting Sabille took on the hand of vengeance. Though not as strong as she was with her sister, Sabille still maintained more than enough strength to maintain her crusade. She had been a part of the Jedi Order, a Knight in her own regard and a excellent tactician. She had spent years working with the 7th, and during that time she had garnered enough military experience to launch a campaign against this so called Empire. Sabille began to strike. Outposts, garrisons, storage facilities. The Twi'lek did what she could, hitting the Empire and with each successive strike becoming darker and darker. As the months raged on, as the isolation began to reach her, and as the Empire threatened to snuff her out Sabille began to turn to the darkside.
She cared less about who she hurt. Her method's became more cruel, and with each new attack the darkness dug it's claws deeper into her.
Knowing this, sensing it through their bond, Sabene came out of hiding. She had spent her time dug away in the caves on Ilum, hiding herself with the remnants of the 7th and building a small outpost there to keep the Crystal Caves secure. When Sabille began to fall her sister came searching for her. Weeks passed, the 7th and Sabene tracking and tracing every move that the other Twi'lek made, hunting, searching, until finally they found her.
Sabille had planned an attack on an Academy, men and boys preparing to train for the Imperial army. She had planted explosives and was prepared to use them. Dozens, perhaps hundreds were slated to die. The Twi'lek stood upon a roof top, a smile growing on her face as she watched the potential soldiers assemble below. A voice rang out behind her, familiar, but distant. She recognized that voice, though she could not remember from where. It rang out again, it called her name, and then finally she turned.
She saw there those that she had forgotten.
Her sister, the remnants of the 7th now old men. They watched her, some of them bearing the scars of the fight that had saved her life. Not a one of them pointed their weapons at her, not a one of them glared at her accusingly or spoke a harsh word, they simply watched her.
The woman that she had become, shrouded in darkness and willing to kill anyone to get her vengeance shattered. She had forgotten all that she fought for, forgotten what her sister and her had, forgotten how the 7th had looked to her. The Twi'lek embraced her sister, holding her, falling to tears as the 7th crowded around the two Jedi. On that day the Twins were reunited, Sabille brought back from the edge of darkness by her friends and new family.
They returned to Ilum, to their outpost. The sisters and the remnants of the 7th thrived there, for a time, but all good things come to an end.
With the Empire's rise to power, and Lord Vader's hunt for Jedi it was not long before Ilum was found by the Empire. The outpost was discovered and the remnants of the 7th were slaughtered within a few days. The Sisters were captured, brought to an Imperial Prison on Odik II and tortured for information. Sabene was the first to pass, her body relenting after weeks and week of stress and strain. Upon her sisters death Sabille broke free of her restraints, shattering the chains that were holding her in order to reach her sister. Before she could the Twi'lek was gunned down, the Twin's of Ilum brought to an end by a single blaster shot.
Before their capture and inevitable end however, the Twins created a holocron within the caves of Ilum. Here they stored their knowledge, both of them becoming the Guardians of the object. Sabille recorded her knowledge, what she had learned from her near fall to the darkside and everything that had come from it. She would teach the user strength of will, the power to resist, and the lesson that she had learned of friends and family. Sabene recorded her life on Ilum, the knowledge she had gathered from her study and meditation. She would teach the user the powers of the force, the strength that could come from within, and the lesson of forgiveness.
The holocron was eventually found and picked up by Aela Talith. The young Jedi Marshall had learned of the twins during her study at the Arceneau Cultural Archives. Interested in their story, and knowing that knowledge of the Clone Wars was valuable, Aela and a team of Jedi retrieved the Holocron, finding it in two pieces that had long since been broken apart. Aela took the pieces, along with an ancient sword that she found as a means of distraction. Eventually Aela escaped with her team, returning to Sullust to repair the holocron.
