GENERAL INFORMATION
Unit Name: Guard of the Holy Host
Affiliation: Cardinal

Classification: Special Operations/Heavy Infantry
Description: The Guard of the Holy Host is compromised of individuals hand picked by the Cardinals best talent finders across all of the Essionian Imperium. They are clad in the golden, silver or crimson colored heavy armor indicative of their role. Above their helmets adorn plumes or feathers of exotic crimson birds.

Equipment: Extensive. Heavy Infantry Armor with crew served weapons. They have their own assault cruiser fleet made for boarding and space combat. Their centurions carry lightsabers and ceremonial battle hammers are given to their chaplains.
Combat Function: They operate mainly as the Guard of the Cardinal himself. Lately they have been upgraded and equipped with new manpower, ships and training to allow them to execute special operations and ship boarding missions.
Strengths & Weaknesses
The Best of the Capital + Having spared no expense, the stock for recruits include the best the world's have to offer. From force sensitives to veterans of ten wars, The Guard sports behemoth soldiers with a wealth of experience and power.
The Holy Hammer+ Being well equipped is its own reward. With both the deep pockets of the ecclesiarchy and the support of the Crusade, The Holy Guard is able to unleash all kinds of weapons and devastating technologies on their foes.
Authority+ In a Theocracy, being the word of the Ashla means they don't have to ask permission to glass a city.
Politically occupied - Being the Hammer of the Cardinal also means that sometimes they have more important matters to attend to. Like escorting His Holiness to the next meeting with the humanitarian delegation of the NIO ect. Meaning those men pinned down by blaster fire will have to wait until after the reception.

Like the man says, these guys are the cream of the crop and even if we had the time to train a new recruit up to speed, where are we going to find a special Ops weapons expert with three invasions under his belt in this economy?
Expensive, to the absolute extreme - There is such a thing as too expensive. The armor they wear, Phirk Coating and Cortosis blades cannot be replaced at all without a colossal effort of many parties. An armor that is destroyed cannot be replaced without going to invade someone for some Phirk or Cortosis.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Guard was formed with the church in a time before the world was burned. Their history as such is clouded in mystery, it dates back to the ancient Dominion. It was in recent events that the order was reformed by an upstart priest who used it to secure his dominance.
The Friar's league and the many faithful in Ession also formed part of the order. Together they make a network of humanitarian and military aid across the Empire. In this order, above all are the Guard of the Cardinal himself, later they became known as the Guard of the Holy Host. From the original order this is what came, now centralized under the command of the Cardinal alone and superimposed his authority over any and all law.
The Guard is broken off into three ranks, The Icari, The Centurions and The Chaplains.
The Icari -
The Icari serve as the heavy Infantry and enforcers of the Guard. They are equipped with crew served and heavy weapons as well as cortosis plating beneath their armor. They are brutal, Savage and their zeal for the Ashla is unmatched in the armies of Ession. Their disregard for their own safety and lives in service to their Cardinal is only one of their motifs.
They can carry anything from sinper rifles to heavy laser batteries to thermonuclear devices to give the ultimate sacrifice. Together they form a batallion of zealots that any standing army is good to fear.
Centurions - Seen Above
Few in number and chosen from the crop of the Icari, the centurion is the pillar upon which The Guard rests. The Centurion are all force sensitive and are given lightsabers of blue and white colors to use for battle and ceremony. Their discipline and raw grit is legendary and their ability to hold the line against any odds is proven.
The Chaplains -
When the most faithful flinch or falter in their faith, these are the hammers that nail them back in place. Feared more than the enemy, These towering behemoths are the ones that make sure that that faithful are faithful. Each one of them administers punishment and reward and extract the repentence of the unworthy. They are brutal, merciless and remorseless in their actions and they will die before retreating without command.
