Organization Name: The Holy Jury of Ashla

Classification: Inquisitorium, internal affairs

Affiliation: Ashlan Crusade, Pietro Demici Pietro Demici

Organization Symbol: The symbol for the Holy Jury is a set scales, with a heart being measured upon it against the weight of a phoenix feather.

Description: The Holy Jury functions as the inquisitorial arm of the Ashlan Papacy, taking it upon themselves to seek out those that follow the Bogan and bring them to justice, wherever they may be found.

Headquarters: Bosph

Domain: The Jury does not hold sway over any particular domain. Their quarters are with those of the Papacy, and they do not claim any region for themselves. That being said, their presence can be felt across the galaxy, albeit subtly. The fear they strike into their targets is its own form of power, because if the Jury is hunting you, the chances of escape are incredibly slim.

Notable Assets: There are no notable assets for the Holy Jury. They do not hold centralized power in the same way as other organizations, instead choosing to maintain their autonomous nature. They also have no desire for material gain, instead focusing on their mission to bring down the Bogan.

Hierarchy: Given the nature of individualism within the Jury, there is no formal command structure outside of the Papacy. The Jurors only answer to the upper echelons of the Church (specifically, the Grand Vicar, Cardinal, and Archbeacons). Should they hold a trial, random selections are held based on the Jurors present at the time of the trial.

Membership: There are approximately a hundred Jurors at any given time. The skills needed to become a Juror are vast, and their loyalty must be considered absolute. There are exceptions to the strict recruitment process, as Cardinal Demici has the ability to select members himself, should he desire. Those selected to become Jurors are thoroughly vetted to ensure that the enemy will not infiltrate their ranks.

Climate: The Holy Jury is a very insular organization, often keeping to themselves. They are not seen in large numbers outside of their headquarters, and the likelihood of catching them there in full force is next to none. This is because they are often scattered across the stars, searching for followers of the Bogan. They are not an incredibly uniform organization, as they are encouraged to maintain autonomy in order to better blend in.

Reputation: The reception of the Jury is a bit of a mixed bag. Some respect the office, but others often fear it. This is largely due to the fact that the Jury conducts investigations within Ashlan Space as often as they do in the rest of the galaxy. If the Jury is investigating you, then you likely have cause to be concerned. There are those within the Ashlan government that don’t always see eye to eye with the Jury, though this is largely due to similar reasons. Others see the Jury as a necessity within the greater scope of Ashlan society, seeing their existence as an important part in keeping the influence of the Bogan at bay.

Curios: The Jury explores a great level of individuality from member to member. They also don’t want their targets to see them coming, and as such, don’t have any objects or garb that they are a Juror at first glance. The one trinket many carry, however, is the renown Ashlan rosary, as they wish to keep Ashla close to them at all times.

Rules: The rules of the Jury are quite straightforward. They are to uphold Ashlan law, follow the will of the Church, and eradicate the forces of darkness wherever they find them. Beyond these tenets, they may live as they see fit. Should a Juror be compromised, they are hunted down by their fellow Jurors, who treat the fallen just as they would any other servant of the Bogan.

Goals: The goals of the Jury are simple; to defeat the Bogan at every turn, no matter the form its presence takes. They seek to purify the galaxy by completely eradicating all traces of the Dark Side. In some ways, they are the purest embodiment of the Crusade’s end goal, acting as the scalpel that cuts between the Light and Dark.

Since the inception of the Ashlan Crusade, there were talks of creating a force that could move quickly and eliminate targets without causing an incident. As the Crusade grew, so too did the need for such a force. Though the political arm of the Crusade had developed its own means of achieving these goals, the Holy Ashlan Papacy felt that such tasks would be better left to those capable of dealing with the more sinister threats presented by the Bogan and its followers. They began searching for those that showed incredible skill in tracking, stealth, and combating Force-users. Word was sent to the many Ashlan churches across the galaxy, and slowly the first candidates began rolling in. The Church had initially thought of maintaining a more uniform force, but came to understand the importance of individualism within such an organization. As the first few candidates proved themselves, the Papacy began sending them to the furthest reaches of the galaxy, testing the effectiveness of their new force. The initial excursions proved successful, leading to the Papacy’s expansion of the organization. Thus, the Holy Jury was born.

Great submission, my only question is, are there other Ashlan laws, or specific rules, or is it simply to eradicate the Dark Side when paths have crossed.

Onansi of Thyrsus Onansi of Thyrsus the Ashlan law part is in reference to more or less the laws of the state (which are pretty standard issue laws you would find in most nations), with an added dose of piety due to their association with the Ashlan Papacy. You could compare it to a law enforcement officer that is meant to "uphold the law", but in this case the law enforcement are also technically members of the clergy, or at least, warriors of the clergy. I plan to write a sub in the future fleshing out how the Papacy interprets the laws of the state, but I'm not sure what the timeline on that is as of right now (it might end up being a hefty sub).
