Description:
The Illustrious is the first of the joint Directorate design initiative vessels produced by the DIrectorate for its many customers and protectorate factions. Designed utilizing elements from Mon Calamari Shipyards, Kiribian Systems Armory, Imperium Forge Works and Lucerne Labs, The Illustrious will have the most advanced products available. Built using the Imperious Mk II as a base for the design the Illustrious will be the prototype and flag ship of the new Imperious Mk III-class of vessels. The goal of The directorate is to produce a solid and powerful Command Light Star Defender for use by the Directorate, its smaller members, and the SIlver Jedi Order. It will be designed to bring maximum firepower to an enemy for its class and maintain open command of battle groups during combat.
AT the core of the new class is its mixed weapons complement. The class uses a wide array of large powerful weapon systems as its main offensive source. These varied weapon systems give the class a mix of damage type and potential to combat any target and adapt to changing battlefield situations. The heaviest of these systems is the massive Mjolnir Cannons which are set in the prow of the vessel. These axial mounted weapon systems have a forward thirty degree firing arc limiting their power to targets directly in front of the vessel. These four cannons utilize their own hyper matter reactors to provide power for the massive weapon systems. while each Mjoinir cannon has a limited range which is comparable to standard heavy turbolasers the power of these large light constant beams is staggering. Each cannon can bring to bare 350 terajoules per second against a target instantly. It accomplishes this by accelerating neutron pairs at the speed of light which then come into contact with matter and increasing their mass infantly. While these weapons systems are massively powerful and are provided by their own reactors they still need time to charge and recharge making their rate of fire very slow. Backing up these massively powerful weapons systems are eight quad turrets installed along the Dorsal hull axis near amidship housing four Terminator Velocity Cannons. These large bore velocity cannons are far less destructive than the Neutron based Mjolnir but have a much smaller circular error probable targeting spread. These systems are also mounted on large Barbette turrets giving them a full 180 degree arc on each broadside and all eight a full arc to the forward 270 degrees of the ship. Each weapon fires a massive 520 mm reactive slug at extreme velocities which after piercing a targets shielding and armor release a massive plasma charge causing more damage to a targets internal structure and systems. Further bolstering the offensive might of Illustrious are the MACRO "Mass Acceleration Coil Reactive Ordinance" cannons. These large bored weapons fire giant slugs with various warheads at targets. The weapon system uses repulsor and tractor technology to move the massive warheads into place then accelerates them using magnetic coils. Backing up these systems are the Turbolaser and Ion cannon batteries to the flank of the command structure on the dorsal and ventral hulls.
The class is also equipped with various types of ordinance launchers backing up both the offensive and defensive weapon systems. Twenty four Sea Hawk Heavy Torpedo Launcher are positioned on the aft rim of the vessel on the port and starboard flaks which fire various types of heavy torpedoes and assault grade missiles. Four of these systems are dedicated to launching the Statet Grav Missile and have their own reinforced ammunition cases. Positioned on the ventral and dorsal hull retractable Anvil-class Missile Batteries aid both in offense, defense, and point defense as needed. These weapon systems can load out various types of ordinance as needed and fire them rapidly then retract reload and begin the process all over.
Defensively the Illustrious and the Imperious-class in general is a brute force wall of fire. The Defense weaponry begins with the exotic Class III Deimos Series Positron Cannons. These heavy weapon systems work offensively and defensively to strip away shielding using positrons.
Aiding in the defense of the vessel are the Tarpon-class Heavy Defense Batteries. these batteries house light turbolasers and rapid firing laser cannons to engage larger attack craft and picket or corvettes at close range. The "Interceptor" Defensive Batteries can fire charge canisters which can contain various types of charged to combat incoming projectiles, attack craft, energy weapons, and even counter sensors and ECM weapons. Rounding out the weapons suite and defensive package are the Sturgeon-class Laser Defense Batteries. These weapons have an extremely high rte of fire and can engage atack craft and incoming projectiles.
Power is porvided by a highly classified Mon Calamari adapted Jenth-class hypermatter Core. having studied wreckage and plans from experimental reactors used centuries ago the Engineers created a powerful Energy supply for the needs of the weapons and extreme amount of shielding the Illustrious has. Several Hypermatter-annihilation Reactors are installed as secondary power sources and can be engaged during battle to help power the weapons, auxiliary power and shielding when needed. Multiple Redundant Cap Drains aid in processing the power from the reactors to the weapon systems and keep energy from backing up into the reactor maintaining constant output and aiding in overload prevention.
Built on a fram of Ferrocarbon Condensed-matter Composite Framework, the class has a solid base which can absorb intense amounts of punishment before breaking down. advanced reactive damage absorbing EMNERA Star Ship Armor Plating wraps the frame giving the vessel strong base armor which can absorbe damage. the makeup of the armor is made to take inertial energy and use it to make the armor stronger. a second layer of Neualuquad Ablative Armor Plating is installed in key areas such as weapons emplacements areas defending power systems and important key internal areas such as quarters command and engineering. this armor aids in blocking targeting of these areas and provided more ablative damage reduction. Impervium Casements are installed internally to protect ammunition holds crew quarters command and engineering sections from damage when the hull is compromised. an array of Delphus.4 Shield Projectors covers the ships hull providing overlapping coverage with adjacent projectors utilizing Lateral control systems to manipulate the shield bubble of the projectors to reinforce and even replace a projectors shielding area if needed. The vessel is broken down into shielding zones each with its own projector and a back up projector. When one is damaged or compromised the secondary kicks in to take its place. In extreme cases power can be rerouted from weapons to engage both reactors giving the shield zone incredible amounts of shielding. To further enhance the shield zones adjacent projectors can be manipulated to partially or completely shield the areas next to it. placed one hundred meters apart these shield zones are constantly covers by no fewer than three and up to seven projectors when needed. Over this formidable bubble of shielding is are Double Redundancy Molecular Shield Projectors which absorb all forms of energy and route it to the banks of capacitors which feed the weapons and shielding of the starship. while they provide defense from incoming damage their main goal is to leach power from that incoming fire. to aid the Neualuquad armor in protecting the important areas of the star ship Vanish 2 military sensor masking system is installed to make the ship more difficult to target. Finally a Aegis II Anti-Concussion Field Generator protects the vessel from incoming projectiles and against inertia based attacks.
the sensor targeting and communications suite of the Illustrious is extensive and equipped with redundant systems all working in overlapping redundancy. The Oracle Communications Package, and Dolphin Communications suite work in concert to provide constant secure and uninteruptable communications between elements of the fleet. This is further aided by the Bio-Comm Module technology to provide subliminal communications through out the vessel and beyond. a "Hydra" Mesh Networking Program is installed on all transmission, electrical and network lines working with the other security targeting communications and auxiliary systems aboard the vessel. The advanced sensor systems utilize redundant systems such as the Metis Sensor Array and Oracle Sensors to identify and scan targets. These systems use a combination of many types of radar scanning and both passive and active sensor to target identify and gather intel on objects and targets. Once an object is targeted and scanned and information collected on it the Tetra Targeting systems locks onto the object and sends targeting information to the tactical and weapons systems used to fire on a target. A "Slingshot" Missile Guidance Module is equipped to the systems to the system to modify firing solutions adjusting for gravity and gravitational field created by enemy countermeasures and systems.
The Illustrious has a large central hanger area on the ventral hull which can dock with vessels up to 250 meters. Six docking umbilicus can extend giving the large area the ability to dock with up to six large vessels at once if needed. The rear of the hanger area has two large bays one housing the support wing with its shuttles assault craft and also housing the walkers and equipment for the assault force onboard. The second houses the attack wing of three bomber and attack fighter squadrons. Three smaller hanger each house a space superiority squadron with repair bays and construction bays for replenishing lost craft. On the forward hanger bulkhead is a large centralized hanger for visiting shuttles freighters and dignitary envoy craft. This area is further reinforces with Impervium armor to protect guests in the case of combat breaking out while aboard. large Impervium bulkhead doors can be closed on every hanger denying entrance in combat situations.
The vessels complement includes nearly twelve thousand crew and officers venturing from the modern practice of lowering crew with optimized systems and droids. These systems are still in place but every system has a human fail safe and can be over ridden and controls by its human counterpart if needed. retinal and DNA samples of each crew is needed to over ride systems and a secondary set of security codes is needed making every system as safe as possible and requiring no fewer than two crew members to accomplish. EI-9 network security droids further enhance the network security of the vessel which work in conjunction with the Socketguards installed at each station access point and various inline relay hubs. Three Antarian Shock Marine Regiment provide security for the bridge, CIC, and Engineering sections of the vessel which are assisted by Kwookrrr Assault Regiments providing strong security for the key areas of the vessel. A company of Specter Class Security Droids further aid in security of the command and engineering areas of the ship. These forces can be deployed where needed on the vessel rapidly when needed. Droideka Mark II-D patrol the corridors of the ship in times of battle and provide heavy defense and security. A Kwookrrr Assault Regiment accompanies the Commander of the vessel at all times as a personal guard and security team. General security of the ship is assigned to teams of security personnel chosen from the crew. Each crew member aboard is trained and certified through the Directorate Marine training course and can not be apart of the crew otherwise. The assault force of the vessel is limited and specialized in command and special operations missions. General assault is dedicated to a secondary escort vessel and assisted by the Illustrious onboard assault force. This force generally is made up of 2000 special operations commandos and engineering teams.
As with everything the Mon Calamari build every system has redundancy. This is the case with the Internal security of the Illustrious. The majority of the vessel is built from Directorate partner companies but a few are not. One of these are the Shatory Sensors which line the corridors vents crawl spaces and void spots in the frame and hull. These work with other standard heat, infrared, pressure, motion and temperature sensors through out the ship to maintain security and identify intruders. once identified the system utilized installed technology like the KP-1 "Casper" Active Protection Systems, Force-field generators, R-TechApp Man Traps, Class VI automated laser projectors, Rapid Repetition Defense Measures, and LPD-15 Stormfire Heavy Repeaters to engage these threats. Information and instructions are also relayed tot eh onboard security details and teams to aid in engaging and interdicting these threats. to aid in this the system utilizes many forms of programs ranging from threat assessment to door and shield control systems to slow down and even stop these threats from making their way through the vessel. Mithril Security Software is also installed to provide a cloud based backup to the main security program.
The Illustrious is the pentacle of destroyer construction and a formidable foe. With its hull shielding and security systems it is a bastion of defense nearly impossible to break. With it's weapons ans systems it is the best modern ship to ship warfare has to offer and with its commanders and crew it is a frightening foe to face in battle. It is the perfect hardened platform to command small battle groups and task forces and will serve the Silver Jedi, The Directorate, and SJO third fleet well.
