Located to the south of Midvinter, The Isles of Tears is steeped in ancient history. As the planet evolved over many millions of years, and the twisting turmoil of the continent began to rise up out of The Maw, The Isles of Tears broke away from the mainland. High mountains remain although beaten by the elements of the winds, no conifer forest grow here only rolling slopes of grasslands which meet the sea. It is a harsh place. The Valkyri that had live here are seafarers, explores and fisher folk, much of the supply of fish to the mainland comes from the Isles. The main village is Stydorn, a port village and the largest in population on the Isles. It is also home to Clan Guddlorn, who rule over the Isles. The Isles do not escape the rugged winter, in this time the Isles descend into complete darkness form several months of the year, with the coming of the spring, returns the light.
There is a reasons the Isles are named so. In ancient times, it is said, that The Isles of Tears was home to the Sages of Midvinter. They were revered and looked upon in times of war and desolation for council, although most of the peoples of the mainland viewed them with fear, the Valkyri of The Isles considered them demi-gods.
The Wailing Stones
Legend has it, that one of their own, a powerful sage, betrayed them in their lust for power and turned the sages into stone. The stones of the sages now stand on the shore and in certain times of the year, the stones wail in grief for their loss. Not much is writ about these sages, no tomes of history to document their mysterious paths or ways, save for a prophecy that one day, a daughter born of the Isles, will reform the sages. That daughter now roams free on the mainland, in search of a new life and purpose.
