- Name: The Katak [ They Who Imprison ]
- Designation: Semi-sentient
- Origins: Netherworld
- Average Lifespan: 500 years, before they are reformed and join back together into the Force. These creatures don't necessarily die. Instead they merge with the Force and after a while new ones are spun back into existence.
- Estimated Population: Scattered
- Description: The Katak are an offshoot of a race of Netherworld creatures found by Sardun during his first travels through that strange place. The initial population of creatures were distinctly born of the Darkside. Seeped in the corruptive power they preyed and hungered for errant Lightside spirits that lost their way in the Netherworld. Across the years the Lords of Light began capturing these creatures, subjecting them to experiments with Alkahest. Eventually they managed to create the Katak. Distinctly fox-like creatures, whose eyes burn bright of the Lightside. In the past they held a cage-like construct close to their throat. This is where they trapped their prey. During these experiments the cage was forcibly reshaped and turned into a sort of lantern. A permanent beacon of their life-force that shines with Force Light. Repurposed to capture Darkside spirits now. The inverse of their previous occupation.

- Breathes: As a spirit-like creature the Katak do not need to breathe air. Instead they subsist solely on the presence of the Force.
- Average Height of Adults: Variable, they can be as small as kittens or as large as a rhinoceros. Their size usually shifts depending on how threatened they feel. If they are calm and at peace they will be smaller, etc.
- Average Length of Adults: Ditto as above.
- Skin color: Spirits don't have skin and you can't shave them either, sorry
- Hair color: Obsidian, Fire, Amber, their colors reflect the environment they are in. In the Netherworld they are black as pitch and shine as obsidian. On Tatooine they'd resemble the sand they walk on.
- Distinctions: They are genderless foxy spirit foxes
- Races: N/A
- Force Sensitivity: All
- Warden: Is capable of hunting down and trapping Darkside spirits of deceased Sith Lords, ensuring they cannot simply transfer to a new body.
- Formidable: Highly specialized to fighting Darkside entities and effective in their approach to defeat them. After proper training from their Jedi Handlers they are capable of utilizing Force Light to weaken their foes before taking them down for instance.
- Resistant: They are very durable against most forms of physical damage, since they are creatures of the Force. It takes a lot of firepower to bring one down.
- Beings of the Force: Without it they grow weaker and weaker before disappearing entirely. While the Katak always fade away after roughly 500 years it is not clear if they are spun back into existence again if there is no Force around them. It might be they are annihilated completely.
- Unstable: The Lightside generally is not meant to change the nature of creatures. This used to be solely the domain of the Darkside. With this in mind the Katak should not exist and part of them still remember their origins. Roaming free in the Netherworld, hunting the same people they now serve. The older they get the higher the chance is that a Katak will snap and revert back to their previous state of being. But rather than be harmonious in their state, they will start attacking everything in sight, even members of its own species.
- Endless Hunger: They are instilled with hunger for their former allies. They will never grow sated devouring and destroying creatures of the Darkside. It has occurred that in times of 'famine' that they begin to attack one another or even attempt to self-cannibalize. In some cases they even tried to eat their own Jedi handlers, if they are not completely pure of heart... and which sentient truly is?

CULTURE
- Diet: Other- they do not need regular substance, instead they feed off the Force and Force Spirits.
- Communication: They do not have a real spoken language, but communicate to one another in emotions and feelings. Strong negative emotions also serve as a drawing force for them, since that is often an indicator of the Darkside. Whereas calmness, serenity and peaceful emotions also serve to pacify them.
- Technology level: Fox spirit level
- Religion/Beliefs: They do not have a real religion, but within their numbers there is an unspoken belief that divides a number of them in half.
- Path of Hunger: those that follow the Path of Hunger are more in tune with their old nature as dark predators. Unknown to their Jedi handlers they still retain some of their old instincts and primal memories. They are simply smart enough to cover it up and pretend. Perhaps they are waiting for a weak moment, or maybe they are enjoying eating from two sides of the cake. Either way, all they care about is their hunger and the quickest way to fill it.
- Path of Containment: the ones that are true successful experiments and follow their directives. They truly believe in the mission that was forged into their being: to bring order into the Chaos of the Netherworld and to contain all the dark threats inside of it.
- General behavior: In general they roam the Netherworld, specifically around known Rifts, to ensure errant dark spirits don't cross back into real-space.
"In life or in death.... they will never know peace."
Little is known about the Katak before the Lords of Light began their experiments on them.
They seemed mindless monsters. Only chasing their hunger, devouring spirits of Light and others to feed their needs. Perhaps there was more to it than that. Maybe they served some sort of specific niche in their environment. Sadly it's too late to find out. The Lords of Light culled their numbers, sealing them into their fortress and purified them with the Lightside. Days turned to weeks as their shapes were steadily molded and straightened out through the energies of the Lightside.
It was a deeply unnatural process and should not have been successful.
Yet, somehow, the Lords of the Light managed just that. Utilizing Alkahest to change their nature and become hunters of their former allies. Fighting and imprisoning spirits of the Darkside, before bringing them back to Asha'Jen. They are deadly predators, using their formidable nature to stalk and hunt their prey. In some areas of the Netherworld they have become stories of horror.
Creepy things stalking in the shadowy bushes.
Waiting until they can close their jaws around your soul.
