Preface
There are those among us who do not fight with blaster or sword. They do not war on crusades against the galaxy or hone their skills in combat against honorable foes.
They are the ones who follow the Kayatr'ade.
Structure
Smithing is an art as old as the Mandalorian people. Indeed, without their smiths the Mandalorians would never have rosen to be the feared warrior culture they are today. As such, the traditions of Mandalorian smiths are many millennia old, and although they have been known under different names and organizations their skills and abilties have remained largely consistent over the Mando'ade's long and bloody history.
Under the Enclave, Smiths are organized into the Kayatr'ade to provide an organized structure that can pass down the knowledge and traditions of Mandalorian smiths to new generations effectively and capabily. Smiths are informally called Goran in Mando'a, and this title is used mostly universally and without regard to what specific disciplines a Smith may have mastered. Those without proficiency in any discipline are referred to as Apprentices, or Apprentice Smiths. And then, those who have shown mastery in every single discipline recieve the coveted title and recognition as a Forgemaster of the Kayatr'ade. Forgemasters are unmatched in skill, experience, and ability in any craft.
Disciplines & Ascendancy
The Kayatr'ade are organized into disciplines based on categorized skills. To become full Smith, Apprentices must ascend to a discipline by demonstrating proficiency; to become a Forgemaster, Smiths must ascend in all four Kayatr'ade disciplines. This can be done in two ways, which largely depends on the preference of the writer: either a thread forging an item (i.e. forging a piece of armor for Metalsmiths) or three factory submissions that fall under the category specific to that discipline.
Below are the specific disciplines and their requirements:
- Metalsmiths
- Description: Metalsmiths are skilled in the working of beskar, working the Mandalorian Iron to forge some of the strongest and respected armor in the galaxy. The technique to work beskar is a fiercely-guarded secret by Mandalorians and is expected of most smiths, so many apprentices will first gain proficiency as a Metalsmith.
- Ascendancy Requirements:
- x3 Armor/Melee Weapon Submissions
- x1 Forge Thread
- Gunsmiths
- Description: The blaster is often the weapon of choice for many Mandalorians, and thus it is an important skill to learn how to forge a working weapon from nothing but components and raw materials. Gunsmiths are particular in their art, often working with a hundred small pieces to craft not just a functional tool, but a weapon as beautiful as it is terrible.
- Ascendancy Requirements:
- x3 Ranged Weapon Submissions
- x1 Forge Thread
- Technosmith
- Description: To understand the intricacies of programming, electronics and equipment is one that is beyond many Mandalorians, but those of the discipline of Technosmiths can program as if binary was their second language. Whether it is a simple communications device or some great artificial intelligence, Technosmiths reign supreme in their craft.
- Ascendancy Requirements:
- x3 Technology Submissions
- x1 Forge Thread
- Starshipwrights
- Description: Starshipwrights are visionaries whose gaze extends all the way to the stars. One must have extreme technological prowess to be able to craft and maintain functional ships, and Mandalorian Starshipwrights are well famed and respected for the vital role they play in providing craft for the clans.
- Ascendancy Requirements:
- x3 Starship/Vehicle Submissions
- x1 Forge Thread
- Forgemasters
- Description: The most skilled and experienced smiths of the Mando'ade, Forgemasters are the rare few that can demonstrate proficiency in all disciplines. Once one obtains the rank of Forgemaster, they are considered experts and serve as mentors and teachers to Apprentices and Ascended Smiths alike.
- Ascendancy Requirements:
- x1 Unique & Creative Factory Submission
- Proficiency in all four Kayatr'ade Disciplines
