The Kraljica, Kings and Queens of the Deep
Name: Kraljica
Biology:
The Kraljica are an aquatic, near-Human species native to the planet Morje. Generally speaking, members of this species range from 1.6 to 2 meters in height, with the average being that of 1.7 meters. Kraljica are most readily identified by their amphibious limbs, which can consist of webbing between the fingers or toes, fins upon the forearms or other parts of the body, legs which resemble fish tails, and the presence of gills. Kraljica are said to be an exceptionally attractive species, at least as far as Human standards are concerned. They are predominantely of the female gender and are often characterized by exotic bands of color upon their typically pale skin, hair which grows to be at least 1 meter in length, and an affinity for clothing which flows like the water.
Kraljica have the capacity to live both on land and underwater, yet are born and prefer to live under the seas. Due to the presence of gills, they have the ability to breathe underwater and can easily navigate due to their aforementioned, amphibous limbs. One of their most defining features is a defense mechanism which allows them to generate electrical organ discharges. Their bodies are uniquely built organs composed of electrolytes, arranged in such a manner that strong, electrical currents can flow through them and produce a charge. This charge can then be projected as a skin-level barrier, or discharged as arcs, depending upon the situation. Lastly, there are members of the Kraljica who have been demonstrated Force Sensitivity, yet it is an exceptional rarity.
Subspecies:
Kraljica have the capacity to mate and reproduce with members of the Human species. The resulting hybrids most commonly resemble the Human component of their makeup, rather than the Kraljica. These hybrids are bi-pedal individuals devoid of amphibious limbs or gills, yet they retain the organs composed of electrolytes and the capacity to generate electrical charges. There has been only one recorded case of such a hybrid occuring, that being the former Jedi Knight Radia Denko.
Sentience:
Being that the species is near-Human, the Kraljica are a sentient race.
Strengths:
As aforementioned, the Kraljica have the capacity to generate electricity as a defense mechanism. This allows them to protect themselves against the natural predators of planet Morje, and off-world predators who seek nothing more than a good time from an exotic species. Furthermore, the Kraljica are a species that are exceptionally talented in the area of construction through living material, such as coral. Over centuries, they have devised numerous means of creating coral structures that are stronger than even duraplex. Lastly, though their techniques and technology are far from advanced, the Kraljica are extraordinarily talented in the field of medicine. The remedies they derive from the local fish and vegetation on their planet can cure a vast variety of ailments.
Weaknesses:
Though the Kraljica have the capacity to survive on land, their biology makes them highly dependent upon the ocean. When taken from the water, most Kraljica are helpless, save for their natural defense (the ability to generate electrical discharges.) Furthermore, the vast majority of the Kraljica do not utilize Galactic Basic and therefore cannot adequately communicate with visitors to their world. Of course, this potential short-coming can be overcome through usage of the Force. Lastly, because there has been next to no contact with the known galaxy, members of the Kraljica are exceptionally susceptible to off-world diseases. The common cold would be a nightmare if unleashed upon Morje, even with the species' particular knack for medicine.
Diet:
The Kraljica are characterized by an omnivore diet. They consume various edible vegetation which naturally grows within the seas, as well as various types of fish.
Behaviors/Temperament:
The Kraljica are exceptionally territorial and possessive individuals with an affinity for beautiful possessions. As such, they become very violent and hostile when someone or something, whether another member of their species or not, infringes upon their territory or takes something that is theirs. The act of claiming something (or someone) lasts a lifetime, as members of the Kraljica form a deep, emotional bond with whatever they claim and come to deeply treasure it; to the point where they will kill to defend it. Their ultimate, collective treasure is the oceanic planet itself and the species will not hesitate to rise up and attack any and all who threaten it. Aside from their aggressive, territorial tendencies, the Kraljica are a perfectly civilized species.
Communication:
The Kraljica utilize a language called Morjese, which is capable of being spoken both above and underwater. It is a language that is next to impossible for other species to mimic, as it requires the presence of gills to make certain sounds. It is an aquatic, verbal language characterized by chirps and clicks of the tongue. Furthermore, the Kraljica have a system of writing that resembles hieroglyphics, in the sence that word-pictures are drawn to relate a particular Kraljica's meaning.
Planet:
The Kraljica are natives of the planet Morje, which is an oceanic world located in the Unknown Regions. It is a world largely covered by oceans, with many volcanic islands dotting the waters. It is largely unknown to the galaxy, yet contact has been made in the past through marooned ships and pirates.
Culture:
To begin, the Kraljica are a species whom hold a great deal of affection for beautiful things of brightness or elegance. For this reason, a religion of sorts has developed amongst the species which worships the moon as a deity. It is their "untouchable" treasure that all members of the Kraljica develop an emotional connection to. Furthermore, the Kraljica, being largely female, have developed into clans which honor the matriarch as leader. There are several hundred of these clans, many of which further organize themselves into kingdoms of sorts with a certain clan reigning supreme. At present, there is no clan which represents the entirety of the planet, yet the clan known as "Pekel" is currently the largest.
The mating rituals of the Kraljica are exceptionally unique. Though they can typically claim anyone or anything as "theirs", mating is entirely dependent upon whether or not the female chooses the male. Once this selection is made, the two enter into a lifetime, monogamous relationship in which the male "claims" the female as well. Infidelity is unheard of within the Kraljica species, due to the extreme emotional attachments formed between a Kraljica and what is theirs.
Technology:
The Kraljica do not house advanced technologies upon their world. In fact, the most technologically advanced piece of equipment on Morje is a marooned vessel which sunk centuries prior. Although this is the case, the Kraljica have developed a substance derived from coral which is exceptionally strong, durable, and can rival duraplex. This material has a strong potential for the construction of starships, yet has never been employed to date, save for the construction of underwater structures. Furthermore, the Kraljica are extraordinarily talented physicians. They have devised an unfathomable number of natural remedies, ointments, and salves from the fish and vegetation native to their world. They have a remedy for nearly everything, save diseases that are not native to their world.
History:
The Kraljica are a species which have seldom been interacted with throughout galactic history. Furthermore, the species seldom keeps record of important historical developments, save for matriarchal successions and births. From what is known about the aforementioned matriarchal successions, the Kraljica have been inhabiting Morje for at least several thousand years prior to the Battle of Yavin. Furthermore, due to the fact that the galaxy did not know of their existence, the Kraljica have had no exposure to the Gulag Virus.
Notable Player Characters:
Jor'si Denko. (Though not full-blooded.)
Intent:
My intent in creating this species is twofold. Primarily, it is to flesh out Jor'si Denko as more than just a typical Human and give him more of an exotic, unique build that would suit him greatly as apart of the Star Wars universe. Second, my intention is to utilize this species and its world for the commencement of threads that will enrich the galaxy. I do have plans to create a PC out of this species as well, but that will have to wait I have played around with the Kraljica design some more.
