Devaron smelled weird.

Gil sniffed at the air, the strange scents of a new world flowing across his senses as he stepped off the transport ship. It was always a new flood of experiences slamming against your head when you go to a new world for the first time. Gil was used to that. He had been to hundreds of worlds during his time with the New Jedi Order, and while some were very much worse than others, Devaron had a certain...spice to it. Gil did not know exactly what the smell was that stood out to him so much, but it was there. A lurking presence beneath the surface of this world. Malicious one might say.

Or maybe he had a cold. Reaching up with a gloved hand, Gil rubbed idly at his nose as he turned back to the transport. The rest of the team he had assembled were disembarking, a hastily assembled menagerie of individuals brought together for one purpose. To find a lost Jedi. That thought stuck in Gil's mind, and he rubbed at his right arm, the cybernetic limb covered by a black glove. The last time Gil had gone looking to find a lost Jedi, he had lost the limb. Hopefully this time would be better.

When Gil had heard about the disappearance of Quin del Ran, he had not thought much of it. Quin was taught by the same master as Gil, and they had both been instructed in the highly independent methods of Master Ohognh. Going a single week without any contact was expected, but two weeks? Add on to that the disappearance of other Galactic Alliance assets in the city...

Gil had grabbed whoever he could as quickly as he could, and set out to Devaron.

"Alright everyone," Gil said, folding his hands behind his back, "we know the mission. Jedi Knight Quin del Ran was operating in Kaldoran to try and track down rumors of Sith artifacts being smuggled into Galactic Alliance space. She was working with the SIA, but as of two weeks ago, both Quin and the SIA agent have out of contact. We have to assume the worst and hope for the best. We will make our way to the safe house near the industrial sector. It was the last confirmed place we can put both our missing people. Does anyone have ny questions?"

Not far in following behind, a fellow Knight walked out from the transport into the unique aroma, the man sniffing for just a moment, made an unpleasant face, and focused back on the mission at hand. Reaching out with his sense for only a moment or two, broadening to the lifeline that was the city.

Finding it wanting.

Unsatisfied, Jack kept his arms folded and glanced to their appointed leader for the mission, offering a half-hearted grin, "No questions from me. The sooner we find them, the better."

Nos followed the two Jedi onto the planet's surface, mind too busy going over the briefing to bother lingering on the scent.

He had not worked with the missing SIA agent in the past, but the organization still has a vested interest in seeing them recovered. Working alongside the NJO, alongside Jedi directly, was an unknown quantity Nos had to observe closely. He has no doubts about their capabilities - quite the opposite - but his CO had informed Nos that Jedi had means of coordinating and relying upon one another through the Force. Nos was being tested by his superiors; not to spy upon the Jedi with him, but to observe what operational challenges were presented with a small team of mixed SIA and Jedi operatives and provide unbiased report back on feasibility and benefit for the SIA.

To the Jedi's credit, their emotional readings showed some level of genuine care about the missing persons. The SIA had already presumed them dead, but the loss of one Jedi was more costly to the NJO than an operative to the SIA, it seemed.

Knowing that Jedi were sensitive to emotional readings through their force senses, Nos suppressed his to avoid impacting them. It would take too long to explain his condition. One upside lacking a significant connection to the force meant he wasn't likely to be corrupted by it even if he only ever experienced negative emotions.

Stepping behind the others, Nos performed a last minute inspection of his equipment and gear as he responded,
"Assuming our investigators didn't stop for an unnanounced vacation, we can expect resistance from the smugglers at best. We should be wary in case their clientele had Sith inspecting the artifacts on site. I can't sense them like you can, so give me a heads up if you detect any force sensitives along the way."

He hoped the trip to the safehouse would be uneventful, but if the missing investigators were still alive, the likelihood of them being used as bait to draw out any reinforcements were too high to discount an ambush.

Gil nodded his head, reaching out to clap Jack on the shoulder. Gil had not known the Jedi for long, but he was already beginning to see the man as a reliable and steady hand. After this mission, he was going to recommend Jack be added to the list he and Kahlil Noble were working on. That was the future though, and at the moment they had to focus on the present.

Turning to their SIA associate, Gil nodded his head at the man's insight. "You know this type of work better than we do, and your concerns are valid. The investigation teams last report said they were following a lead to the safe house, so we need to assume that something went wrong when they got there. If there are Sith..." Gil shook his head, and tapped the saberstaff hanging from his belt, "then Jack and I will have to take them."

Turning, Gil waved down a passing speeder taxi, paying the droid and giving it directions to a location two blocks away from the safe houses location. As they were in transit, Gil turned to look at Nos again. "Are there any specifics practices or clues we should look for when we get to the safe house? Any indicators that the SIA would use to flag that there is something wrong or that they have been taken out of action?"

In the meantime, Jack settled on closing his eyes; using this oppotunity to reach out around the Force, extending for any tell-tale signs of specific foes. If there're Sith present, a group of them wouldn't exactly cloud themselves well from their senses. Unless they got really good at that.

Ah well, their yellow eyes and equally-shaded teeth would suss them out. Jack had to wonder if dental was a privilege for the highest Dark Lords... They did seek all the best stuff for themself.

Why not a minty-fresh set?

"If they were able to detect trouble and had the time to return to the safehouse, we'll either find a smoldering ruin or a perfectly mundane office with no sign of SIA involvement" Nos considered the alternative.
" If the safehouse is intact but empty, then they may still be in the field or. . . " He let the silence complete the thought. Or they will never make it back.

"Considering the lack of communication, they either had to scuttle and run in a hurry, or they're being closely monitored. Until we know for certain, we have to assume the Safehouse is compromised until cleared."

Nos walked alongside the two Jedi. Perhaps some of there mystical something-or-other with the force could help them ID anyone alive in the building when they arrived. It would be much, much easier than a classic CQC room sweep.
