The "like" system.

What is everyone's take on the "like" buttons and the total sum beneath the playby?

I usually enjoy having the option there, sometimes more for OOC comments. It offers a fun alternative to a response.

Other times, seeing the total discourages me. Post count will go up but the "likes" stay the same. Have the masses spoken and is it time to throw in the towel? (Okay, this is a little dramatic, but still!)

Do other writers think about this too?

Can the "like" system be helpful and discouraging at the same time?

Should it be changed?

It's there. I use it. I sometimes give likes, sometimes receive likes, but generally am not bothered by it. I'm not going to start jumping through hoops like I'm a circus attraction to get them.

I use it for the super amusing, or in some cases of an OOC thread I'm following to give my assent to someone's opinion/position.

Also, if I REALLY liked what someone wrote IC, if it moved me. If it made me ponder/read the thread again because I was that interested in the story, I'll Like those posts.

It's just fun.

LOL.

I less than three you guys.

Okay, so...most people aren't bothered by these and there is no dashing of self-confidence.

I'm with Spencer, though. I'M WITH YOUUUUUUUUEEWWWWUUU!

I try to issue out likes to well-written posts that help to move the plot along. Since I personally participate in more IC stuff on the whole (across all my alts) then I tend to dish out more likes for IC posts.

Don't fret, Kitt, your writing is awesome and you're very funny. Depending on the like system is like depending on how many friends you have on Facebook to think you're popular. It's all a lie. Including the cake.
