Events being referenced are here

Objective 1: get Brodan Dobson convicted for his crimes in the battle against the pirates of spindle IV.

Objective 2: get Brodan Dobson acquitted for his actions in the battle against the pirates of spindle IV.

Objective 3: Go through the process of deciding whether or not Brodan is innocent or guilty, playing as a judge, witness or spectator (anyone can watch as this is a public trial). Judge reserved for Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou

Objective 4 (optional): raise hell and make a joke of the legal process.

Objective 5 (optional): stop or punish anyone who tries to make a joke of the legal process. (Bailiff position is open)

The bailiff led a young man dressed in orange and chains through the aisle to the front of the courtroom. At the front were two tables. One for the defence and one for prosecution. With the bailiff's hand firmly gripping Brodan's slouching shoulder, he offered no resistance as he was led to the defendants desk.

Brodan kept his gaze down, not showing any emotion whatsoever. In his mind, he was outraged. The death of the insurrectionist "Alro Doreen" was a bloody service to the empire and he should be getting a medal for it. But instead, the damn wookie that had saved his life had inexplicably reported Brodan as a murderer. Damn wookies shouldn't be trusted anyways…

Brodan was also irritated at the public nature of this trial. His lawyer and cousin, Severus Dobson Severus Dobson , had explained that this trial was being used as a political move by the Elysium Empire, to show the modest people of Culroon III that the Empire was fair and just. It was being hosted on the aforementioned world and an outsider was brought in to preside over the trial as an unbiased judge. Brodan knew very little about this judge, a woman named Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou .

The prosecution lawyer was none other than Cruk Tuk Cruk Tuk the Geonocian. Brodan knew little about the little bug other than that he was a capable businessman, a Force in diplomacy, and a good warrior. It made Brodan nervous to think about the prospects of a Dobson being brought down by a bug. Wasn't Cruk a friend of his Uncle Arken? Maybe Arken pulled some strings here? Brodan doubted it. Uncle Arken never really liked Brodan, he could tell.

He and the bailiff were the first to arrive of course. He sat and waited for everyone else to get there.

The Geonosian did not adjust his manner too heavily. For formal reasons, he did have to relent his weapons for the time being. An unfortunate requirement for the situation. By now, he'd been engrossed enough in the Elysium Empire for further involvement in their political system to be relevant. And this was such a case. Were Brodan one of his men, after what he came to know, he'd likely have just sent him to the arena. But the Hive ran very differently to the empire. Still, his position afforded him some authority and knowledge, enough to be useful here.

Cruk entered the room, walking calmly towards his seat. He had done his best to go over every piece of information he could. He doubted very strongly that Brodan Dobson Brodan Dobson could get out of this. It was curious though, the bloodline he was standing in opposition to. Not only was the accused a Dobson, but so was his Lawyer, Severus Dobson Severus Dobson . However, Cruk was used to putting the sake of the greater first. He did it for his hive, he'd do it for the Elysium Empire even if only for the sake of the Hive. And that meant that he'd make use of their laws and their ways. Shame though, they weren't insects of some kind. Would possibly have made all his work irrelevent. Not that his skills in the force were public knowledge.

Oh well, he'd make do. There was plenty at his disposal he believed. Still, he knew at least Arken was crafty. He wasn't sure about Severus. And he didn't know if his species would influence a jury. Geonosians weren't known for their kindness, then again, they also weren't known for deal breaking. And his Hive so far had done a very good job keeping within the law.

Then there was Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou . He wasn't sure what to think of this, her being an outsider was probably the right choice. Though it did also mean that he wasn't sure he knew what to expect just yet. He sat in a chair adjusted for a geonosian elite's body. And watched. He'd worked harder on his understanding of basic and ensured the vocabulator around his neck was functioning well.

Objective: Defend Cousin Broden
Tags: Cruk Tuk Cruk Tuk Brodan Dobson Brodan Dobson Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou

Severus was the defense attorney today. Finally he could put those years of law school
(Schools. He had failed a few) to use. He was to defend Brodan, his cousin, who was on trial for a...ton of things, for lack of a better description...

Murder of a subordinate
Disobeying the orders of a superior officer
Fratricide
Unjust use of force
Excessive collateral damage
Conduct unbecoming a commissioned officer
Dereliction of duty
Loss of trust and confidence in command

Such a mess. Only half the charges had even a hint of truth to them. The Empire had pushed for the maximum, both because Broden is a Dobson, and because they want to earn the trust of the warrior people of Culroon III. Oh, and there was the Judge, some foreigner. This whole trial is nothing but politics.

Of course, The prosecution would get the first say, according to the default court system in The Empire. Severus had put together quite the defense, with several "gotcha"s and whatnot. But would it be enough? So much was against poor Broden...but if he could manage to not say anything stupid, surely he could get by with a slap on the wrist. Especially since the geonosian was at least somewhat friendly with Severus' father, Arken. But Arken may have told the bug to hold nothing back, as a test of Severus' abilities.

He wouldn't care what happens, if he hadn't been brought into this mess. But now his pride was on the table. A loss would be unacceptable.....

Objective 4 (optional): raise hell and make a joke of the legal process Explain why the legal process is often disappointing in a calm and orderly fashion.

Jury duty, now that is a role in life Martin never considered fulfilling. Well, he wasn't exactly a part of the jury, technically a witness, but it felt a whole lot like jury duty. As for why he felt compelled to come at all, well, the force wills it. The force, in this case, was Vidcoy, and her will was to tell Elysium authorities that Martin had been a witness to the whole affair. Somehow, she had accomplished the role of worst person and the best officer all in one day.

Martin grumbled under his breath, Standing outside the courtroom with a mixture of disdain and acceptance. He pulled the hood of his robe down, sinking into the gray cloth. He'd be called in by the judge, Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou , in due time. Until then, he just had to wait.

On the other hand, the one far from all the old man's grumbling and dislike for politics, was the realization of Brodan Dobson Brodan Dobson 's unjust crime. The old master should be more invested in the case than this, he knew that. Brodan should be put to justice, plain and simple.

Martin didn't know what happened to himself, maybe he was just a little cynical after all these years. Although, it was more probable that he just didn't want to be here.

Cruk Tuk Cruk Tuk Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou Martin Draigo Martin Draigo Rex Valhoun Rex Valhoun Severus Dobson Severus Dobson Grand Shepherd Burtch Grand Shepherd Burtch

Aculia was not someone who was normally particularly interested in legal proceedings and matters. She was not a fan of most politicians who were all bark rather than bite, and even King Valhoun had yet to show her that he was worthy of being more than a paycheck dispenser for her. But today was a bit of a special case, as one of her missions had not gone as smoothly as she would have liked thanks to this glory-hound admiral on trial. And, honestly, she was in large part responsible for what had happened to his fleet. After all, if she hadn’t fired the ion cannon at that time and totally disabled his three leading star destroyers, maybe he wouldn’t be here on trial. The paycheck to incentivize her to show up and give testimony and the chance to see how “justice” was carried out in the Empire helped too.

Then again, if I had not done that, Burtch would have lost far more and might even be dead. And this Dobson doesn’t seem like one who likes to open up his checkbook very often.

She was wearing her more comfortable, if formal, set of robes today, with her long, flowing silver hair that fell to the middle of her back unfolded instead of tied up like it usually was when she was in the field. She bore a faint, subtle scent of lilac as she walked into the courtroom, nodding slightly at the old guard dog Martin, who was just as cheery as he always which, which was never. She took up a seat behind the small barrier that separated the prosecutor’s desk from the general audience, so that she could be ready to get up and give her testimony when ready. She barely concealed a wince of disgust when her eyes fell upon the Geonosian.

Although why they made the prosecutor that…disgusting, clacking bug-thing…the prosecutor is beyond me.

Aculia was not normally speciest, having had her own dark history of slavery where the only distinction that mattered was whether one was a master or not, but Geonosians creeped her out with their disgusting, beady little eyes, insectoid skin, hive mentality, grating little voices, and overall resemblance to the bedbugs that she had exterminated on countless worlds. She wondered if Rex and the others present genuinely did not care, or if this was some kind of weird, affirmative action, political power play she just was not aware of.

Judge Kimiko
She never saw herself taking up such a position, so when approached by the Elysium Empire to do so as a third party for a trial against a military officer, she was initially skeptical. But after holding counsel with her advisors, the decision was made to utilize this event as a political move of sorts. To garner favor in jockeying for an alliance with the Elysiums.

She had been in the ready chambers as the court room began filling. Her two personal guards and assistant from Akarui were the only ones nearby who were not strangers to her. Yotsuba was a breath of fresh air as Ki witnessed her fidgeting nervously by the entry of the Judge's Chambers. She approached the younger ginger Kitsune with a reassuring smile,"Yotsuba dear, there is nothing for you to be nervous about. We are here to assist in the judicial process and hopefully show we can be a powerful and wise ally to the Elysium empire." she paused, patting the younger woman on the head between her ears,"You're here to look pretty and keep me on track okay?"

Yotsuba looked at the Empress as if she was about to burst into tears and nodded, causing Kimiko to giggle softly. All their nerves were strung tight and the two ladies nearly leaped from their skin when a knock was heard on the door. One of the guards spoke boldly through the passage,"Your Grace, they're ready for you." the two women turned to one another and nodded before heading to the courtroom.

-

Yotsuba and the guards had entered from the side behind the stand before Kimiko. The young attendant stood beside where the judge would eventually presided and cleared her throat before speaking,"Ladies and Gentlemen, please rise for Her Grace, The Honorable Empress Kimiko Taiyou." she turned and bowed as Ki confidently entered the courtroom and took her place behind her podium.

Her thoughtful blue eyes scanned the gathered parties and took the moments to register who was who before taking her seat and turning to the room,"Please, be seated."

She turned to the masses,"We are here today to hear prosecution and defense testimony on behalf of one Brodan Dobson on the following charges: Conduct Unbecoming a Commissioned Officer, Murder of a Subordinate, Fratricide, Unjust Use of Force, Disobeying Orders of a Superior Officer, Fratricide, Excessive Collateral Damage, Deriliction of Duty, and Loss of Trust and Confidence in Command." she paused for a breath,"Over the coming hours and days, we will hear testimony from eyewitnesses for and against the levied charges and with determination by the gathered jury, sentence the accused according to the laws of the land."

Here eyes settled first on the accused, then their defense before switching to the prosecuting team then slowly panning over the jury and crowd,"Are there any questions or complaints before we begin?"

Objective: 3

Omar walked in quietly after the judge Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou hailed the start of the trial. He was dressed in uniform holding many chevrons and badges that broadcasted his rank. It wasn't ceremonial wear, for if it had been he'd of born many medals on his person. But that wasn't needed today.

He didn't seat himself, choosing to stand nearest the wall on Brodan Dobson Brodan Dobson 's side. His cold gaze rested on the lad from under his signature red beret. Omar was quite certain the boy could feel his gaze upon him. Most people could. Of course he was aware of Severus Dobson Severus Dobson , but didn't regard his nephew at all. Arken Dobson Arken Dobson sent him to observe and that was exactly what he was going to do.

Would he intervene? Not likely. If Brodan was under his command at the time, his punishment would be so severe that he'd be sharing the coma bed with Heath Valhoun Heath Valhoun . If it were up to Omar, the boy would be dragged out by his ear, but it was best to save that for another time.

Brodan better hope that he gets kept far away from him. Family or not, it didn't matter to him....

“Don’t you know who my relatives are?”
Brodan's eyes were drawn to the bug, Cruk Tuk Cruk Tuk as he walked in and sat down at the prosecution. Brodan tried to lock his eyes on Cruk to subtly get his attention. If Arken Dobson Arken Dobson had sent Cruk to get Brodan off these charges, Cruk would most likely send Brodan some kind of signal…

He moved on to see his dear cousin Severus Dobson Severus Dobson arrive. He always liked Sev. Growing up, part of him always looked up to the future heir to the Dobson seat of power. Brodan even considered him something more of an older brother than an actual cousin. As Severus approached, Brodan attempted to wave to him with his hands still cuffed. Hopefully, Cousin Sev would understand the pains of being handcuffed wrongfully…

Just outside the courtroom was a man Brodan knew by the name of Martin Dux , the master of the Elysium Knights. As far as Brodan knew, Martin held heavy sway within the Empire because of his title, but before that he had been a pet of the Chiss Brothers and that fool, Rex Valhoun Rex Valhoun . Brodan had no idea what he was doing here… he wasn't present at the battle against the Spindle IV pirates, was he?

Then, a peculiar little woman, Aculia Voland Aculia Voland , arrived and sat behind Cruk Tuk Cruk Tuk . With her came the strong smell of lilacs, and when she looked at Cruk, she seemed to show signs of disgust… Brodan couldn't decide of that was good or bad. Also, as in the case of Martin Dux , Brodan wasn't sure what role she had played in the battle of Spindle IV pirates…

Then he was asked to stand for the arrival of Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou the judge. Brodan tried not to stare but he couldn't help himself. The strange person had… nine bushy tails and weird animal ears…

Brodan wasn't a biologist by any stretch but he knew that most creatures in the galaxy could not physically evolve to have more than 6 main appendages that stemmed from the torso. For this person to have a total 14 appendages was a strange feat of evolution in its own right. Brodan's curious mind pondered the possibilities of this just before she announced herself at the front of the courtroom… and announced the charges.

Brodan's spine turned to ice as the long list threatened to hammer his sanity with individual blows. The whole world went dead around him and he was reminded of the terrible trance he had entered when his Unity Class Star Destroyer had been blown apart around him.

He sat down and turned around to look at the crowd behind him. He felt desperate and scared, hoping someone was there to help him. Just then, sitting in the pews, was his father, Omar Dobson . He looked pleadingly at him for help. All he felt in return was the ice in his father's eyes…

Objective 1: get Brodan Dobson convicted for his crimes in the battle against the pirates of spindle IV.

The Geonisian watched as people entered, standing idly. Some were certainly relevant. Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou was the most obvious due to what her current position was. Aculia Voland Aculia Voland and the presence of Martin Dux was noted. Omar Dobson he remembered he attempted to aid during the battle though they hadn't seen each other face to face at the time. That fact was of little relevance now however, the battle itself was irrelevent. Only the actions and results of Brodan Dobson Brodan Dobson were. And what could be reasoned and shown.

If any questions were made and answered, Cruk would take his turn. He would stand up, first giving a bow to Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou in reference to her present position as judge, ["While I'm sure you should be aware already, I will clarify my position. I am geonosian, and so the sentences that you and the Elysium Empire choose are not those that we use on ourselves. For this reason, I have done my best to know the appropriate sentences according to Imperial Law. Additionally for the sake of awareness, it is important to know that I was present in the battle itself, but was operating on the ground after having left another commanding officers ship via a shuttle, and communicated very briefly with Omar Dobson to ensure coordination against a land base. Beyond this, I did not recieve detailed reports until after the battle."] he explained, his vocabulator hopefully would carry any tonal changes he had, but more important to him was the actual words. So long as they were translate he could work with it.

["Brodan Dobson in a rather short time, displayed a number of actions that collectively showed a disregard for the security of his nation and the lives of fellow sapient species, he shot a subordinate officer repeatedly and without appropriate cause resulting in death, ignored the command to meet before battle by Fleet Admiral A. Athantras instead attacking the instant he entered without waiting for either the Fleed Admiral or Haon Hafey Haon Hafey who was also providing communication, he attempted an unnecessary strafing run recklessly endangering allies he had reason to believe were in the line of fire, including General Omar Dobson, chose to plunge his ship into enemy territory when a retreat order was made instead of defending the forces as ordered, resulting in considerable loss of life and military equipment. In truth, if he'd actually accomplished his job of taking out the pirates, my people might have actually forgiven the disobedience. However with all of his decisions, Brodan showed only incompitence and inconsideration for the wellbeing of the empire and of life."] The entire time Cruk Tuk was speaking, he would have names and faces brought up on a holo-screen as he made reference to them, as well as the cost of the ships lost, and the occupants involved. Though he did specify which were under Brodan's command specifically. He included the name of Brodan's victim, "Chief Petty Officer Alro Doreen." ["These statements need only verification, unless Brodan Dobson is willing to plead guilty and go for a plea deal. With this, I am done with this statement."]

The geonosian then sat down, and waited. Brodan would recieve no sign that Cruk was on his side, as he was not. Whatever deal he originally made with Arken Dobson did not apply here. And did not apply to a reletive of his. While Cruk was not opposed to playing with systems, there was not nearly sufficient reason to do so here.

Objective 4 (optional): raise hell and make a joke of the legal process Explain why the legal process is often disappointing in a calm and orderly fashion Insult Brodan as much as humanly possible.

Well, it looked like it was Martin's time to... shine.

The door to the courtroom slid open as the old man stepped, a slight draft moving his robe every which way. He grabbed the edges of his hood, pulling it down, revealing his grizzled mug. He quickly took note of everyone in the room, Cruk Tuk Cruk Tuk especially, since the old man had entered at the brunt of him speaking.

He saw Aculia Voland Aculia Voland , to who he gave a slight nod. He didn't know her too well, but it paid to be respectful to strangers. Funnily enough, that was about the only respect Martin would show for the rest of this meeting.

He noted Omar Dobson's presence, who he also barely knew. Come to think of it, Martin barely knew anyone in the empire, although, that was the least of his concerns. In his opinion, he should've been at Vesti, he'd certainly be a better use there.

The old master cleared his throat. "Forgive me for my tardiness, I was taking care of a few things." He scanned the room, gauging the atmosphere.

Looking over, he noticed a small bench, one for the witnesses, one he wouldn't be using. He put his hands in the air, slowly moving one of them to his belt, unclipping his lightsaber. "Just so everyone knows, this," He shook the saber, "Goes here." He placed it down on the bench.

He stared at it for a good long while, then chuckled. He shrugged. "I probably won't need it, right? I mean, It's not like I'm going to be gunned down in cold blood." He laughed, it was obviously fake, besides, Martin barely laughed at all. His gaze soon landed on Brodan Dobson Brodan Dobson , in a tone that was as cold as his saber, his eyes drifted from him, passing over Severus Dobson Severus Dobson as they did.

He smiled, abruptly. "I'm only joking, son, who hasn't committed atrocities in the name of the greater good?" Martin put his hand up, smiling on in a manner that was like his laugh, fake.

He looked at Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou . "As I said, I'm sorry I'm late. Have I missed anything, your grace?"

Boy, what a collection of imbeciles we have here today. Severus thought, as he looked at that collection of imbeciles.

Lets see, we have some nine-tailed, creature as a Judge, an insect as the prosecutor, some senile old man that probably thinks he's the leader of The Empire...judging by the way he speaks...and poor Brodan and I have to sit through this. What an absolute joke.

He simply remained silent as the court began its' inevitable descent into chaos with the old man's disruption. Though he did give a nod to Brodan, who tried to wave...not an easy task when handcuffed. Severus knew that from experience...many times had he been arrested, unfairly. As he waited for his turn to defend Brodan, Severus reminisced on some of these arrests.

First there was that one time where he was arrested for smoking spice, on Nal Hutta! Who gets arrested for spice in Nal Hutta!?

But then he moved to The Empire. That's when the fun began.

There was the time when he put spices on his food, but it turned out to be "just Spice", not spices. Then there was the speeding ticket, for speeding in refugee ship lanes. He had explained that he wasn't speeding, and even gave the officers some credits to thank them for their understanding, but the karkers wanted more ...a "ticket."

This whole justice system is nothing more than a joke to the favorite son.

And it's not even a funny one.

Her nodded along with the Geonosian as he went through, while reading the translated words on the prompt screens before her. It was more a statement to get off before the actual proceeding statements.

Her attention quickly transitioned to a disturbance as Martin entered the court room. Eyes narrowed as he seemed to be doing so on purpose,"Take your seat and remain silent or you will be expelled."

With that out of the way, she cleared her throat and turned to the defense,"Let's begin with your opening statements, defense."

My father was in the enemy base when I fired on it???

Brodan heard Cruk Tuk Cruk Tuk list the events of the battle and when his own father’s name Omar Dobson had been stated, Brodan’s vision began to blur with anxiety. He was screwed.

He just sat there and stared at Severus Dobson Severus Dobson pleading for a way out. No wonder Arken Dobson Arken Dobson had sent the bug to prosecute Brodan. Brodan was not only allegedly guilty of military crimes, but a crime against the family. Brodan didn’t have much respect for Elysium law, but he knew better than to cross the family. It didn’t matter that the risk to Omar’s life was an accident. Dobsons we’re ruthless.

He felt his vision getting blurrier and he didn’t even notice as some drunk old bantha groomer stumbled into the courtroom, making a scene…

Omar made no change in his facial expression towards Brodan Dobson Brodan Dobson or anyone else that looked his way. Instead he remained silent and still. One might even think that he was a statue if not for his breathing and ocassional blink.

He was content in seeing how things would unfold. Yet once Brodan was out of the protected courtroom, his real punishment would begin.

If it was a perfect world, Brodan would face a court martial . Yet for some reason he was being tried in civilian court.....

He could never understand their reasonings for that.

I can't believe I've turned into a goon.

That one singular thought echoed in Reggie's mind as he discreetly slipped into the court, trying not to be noticed. Fortunately for him, most of the room's focus had been on the old man who was obviously drunk. The Dobson didn't blame him, Reggie himself had been blasted during his trial. Did it help his image? No, not at all, the courtroom hated him. But, it did make the preceding a lot more fun.

With a calm, smooth motion, Reggie slipped into the crowd, slowly working his way through it. He needed to get closer to Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou , he had an important message. Granted, Brodan being torn apart by the family wasn't that important, a little funny, but Arken demanded it. As he looked out over the room, trying to map out a path, he stopped dead in his tracks.

Severus Dobson Severus Dobson , his brother. His mouth quivered into a smile.

How'd you get stuck here? Is dad pushing you into this mess too? I guess family helps family, right? No one can be trusted, that's what dad says. I wonder, does that mean he doesn't trust us? I guess we shouldn't either.

He gave a small wave to his brother.

How had he not been told that OMAR was in the base that Brodan fired on!? There was no longer any hope of winning this trial. This would forever mark his credentials: Lost trial to protect family member. This pissed the favorite son off...as so many other things do.

This whole trial is nothing but a play! A setup! It's rigged!

How could he remedy this? He figured he would simply have to do his best. Maybe he could chip off some of the charges...but even then, he'd be angering uncle Omar, and that was something he did not want to do. He took a chug of water, nodded at Reggie Dobson, then faced the "judge", and gave his opening statements.

"Thank you, judge." Fake smile "To open this case I'd like to start by restating our position that Brodan Dobson is not guilty. Now, how many of you have served in the military? Better yet, how many of you have seen combat? I would argue many of you have not. So to charge someone for something done in a situation that you did not witness, and have no relevant experience in, is simply wrong.

Next, I would like to mention that this is a civilian court, yet we are addressing military charges. Why? I don't know. But I have this theory, you see, a year ago my father was arrested by order of Heath Valhoun, for breaking up a fight. Since that day, the royal family seems to have it out for my family...for example lies were spread about me on Alderaan and when I tried to control my sister, who sides with The Royal Family, the Queen kicked me out!

And now? Now we are facing a trial that will bury my cousin in charges...military charges...with a foreign judge, in a civilian court.

Therefore in my opening statements, I would like to file for a mistrial...because before this thing has even started, we've had a plethora of misconduct. Again, I'll list this misconduct out for you. A foreign judge that is not from The Empire, nor from this planet. A civilian court, despite military charges being pressed. Disruptions by a drunk old man. Finally, a preexisting bias against my family by The King and his family, proven by his father's unjust imprisonment of my own father, Arken.

Thank you."

Objective 1: get Brodan Dobson convicted for his crimes in the battle against the pirates of spindle IV.

So many Dobsons in the room. It crossed the geonosians mind that there'd be an attempt to forcefully get him out of this, but Arken seemed smarter than that if he was involved. Something so blatant, and with family members directly involved, would be a great risk. If he were to attempt that he'd need to use proxies. And even then, from what Cruk Tuk saw, Brodan was more a liability to the family than an asset. Best to cut ties.

He stared at Martin Dux. The interruption was a frustration to him, he did not care who's side he was on. It was unnecessary. But hopefully Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou 's reaction was sufficient.

Then came Severus Dobson Severus Dobson 's response. His head tilted as the rhetorical question of military service was prompted. He'd address that when given the chance. He could prey on it. Then civilian vs military, that he couldn't. He admittedly wasn't sure why that was the case, to him there should be no difference. They were a collective, whether you were a soldier or a worker, you were a part of a whole and thus effected the whole. Ah, then something interesting did occur, he reffered to an incident Cruk was present at. The one that made him aware the king would put charges even where they were not just, simply to get rid of Arken from the spot. Unfortunately, that was going to be harder to argue, but he had an idea. He listened, considering his reaction. As Severus sat down, he stood up again.

"If you would permit me to respond." He began, waiting a moment, so long as he was not prevented, he'd continue. "I have served, in every role in battle. Whether that is in war or in an arena, I know what it means to see the threat of death staring at you. And I have done so without killing someone for disagreeing with me, or causing undue damage. And we have witnesses, and we have people with experience. Your first point, is insufficient. On the matter of civilian court, why may be your theory. I do not care if it is civilian or military. But your theory is insufficient, as he risked the life of a relative of Arken Dobson, Omar. And therefor this could just as easily be to protect as to hurt him. But your theory is further hurt specifically by the use of a foreign judge, as a foreign force can help avoid pre-existing bias's, as either the king or Arken Dobson, or even myself or any other well position individual or group, theoretically pose a risk of persuading a judge to their side via financial or political gains. The disruptions of the, quote, 'drunk old man' are minor and easily resolved. Additionally, pre-existing bias by the king does not exempt your family, or you, from trial. As a result I do not believe that these reasons are sufficient for a mistrial."

"If we may, I would like to move to the first witness. Unless more discussion on this matter is required."

Her ears flicked above her head after hearing the opening testimony from each party. Internally she was dreading this whole process and wondered if she should have sent Chika or another council member who would be better versed in these matters. Before speaking she took a cursory glance at Yotsuba who offered an assuring smile of her own giving her own nerves a calming feeling.

Her attention turned back to the courtroom, specifically the prosecution,"Very well, call your first witness to the stand."

Although the old man was certainly in a state, he still listened closely to the arguments of both Cruk Tuk Cruk Tuk and Severus Dobson Severus Dobson . He narrowed his eyes, by the tone of Kimiko Taiyou Kimiko Taiyou , it looked like he was up. Reaching into his robe, he pulled out a small silver flask. He took a swing, as he approached the booth.

Settling himself in the little box, Martin rubbed his forehead, feeling a headache come on. He began his testimony. "When I was that asteroid, I had received word from... my ensign. They said that an officer had been gunned down." He glared at Brodan Dobson Brodan Dobson again.

He continued. "Shortly after that, the base was pelted with fire. I recall several parts of the base were becoming cut off from oxygen, luckily I wasn't in any of those areas."

He continued to rub his head. "If the court wouldn't mind I'd like to say something." He turned to Severus. "This might come as a surprise, but I think you're right about a lot of things in this trial. The royal family doesn't like yours, they'll probably always have it out for you. Almost everything here is rigged against you, the court, and the judge most obviously. But what happened is right there, Brodan murdered a man, he almost killed his own father."

He shook his head. "But what do I know? I'm just a drunk old man." He gave a smile, a real one, but it was laced with sorrow. Drinking had a way of making Martin emotional.

Then, promptly, Martin made his way back to that bench with his saber. Then, he took a nap.

Her attention shifted back to the Geonosian with a raised brow at the conduct of one sworn in a court.

If this were held in her own land, the man would be bound to the chair until a solution could be drawn. But alas, she was a guest and shrugged off the formalities...for now.

Turning again to the defense, she sternly spoke,"Defense, now you may begin counter arguments."
