- Accessibility: Knowledge of the base was known to virtually everyone on Lorrd and the geothermal power plants beneath each of the pits made it distinctly noticeable from orbital sensor scans. Access to the center was restricted on a high clearance basis with only vetted individuals being given permission to even approach the base; airspace extending upward into a near-lunar orbit was patrolled and forbidden to all but authorized vessels who would be strictly monitored and remotely piloted to their designated landing zones from the Lorrdian capitol building.
- Description: Each multi-kilometer wide pit was encircled with a defensive wall several hundred meters thick. These walls had armed security towers spaced at regular intervals to coordinate security between the pits and the Lorrdian capitol. Along the exterior of these towers were deflector shield generators that could project an individually powered dome around its corresponding pit so that even if one dome should fail, the others would still be protected by their own dome-shields. Each pit was dedicated to a specific branch of science under the Lorrdian system of categorization, these pits were filled with skyscrapers that lined the walls of the pits and rose to various heights. Construction continued to be a fact of life even after initial development was finished as new buildings to add more capacity were added annually. Within the skyscrapers themselves were the countless laboratories, conference halls, research facilities, test labs, manufacturing plants, datacenters, and residential structures needed to support the Center's personnel.
Divided into five quadrants based on the cardinal directions and then a circular central quadrant, none of the pits looked identical to one another. Each was designed with efficiency and impeccable precision; each further still looking like glistening jewels from orbit. While all each distinct in their own ways, some vague motifs could be seen throughout them all; a central tower or spire, rest areas - both for temporary and permanent residents - located as close as possible to work areas, and the use of natively produced and painted steelstone to clad each of the buildings in a distinctly Lorrdian style that looked colorful and alive.
- The Central Pit: Dedicated to the administration of the base itself, the Central Pit consists almost entirely of administration offices, temporary and permanent living spaces for support staff, recreational facilities, landing platforms, and conference rooms. At the center of the Central Pit stood the Adjunct Tower; a secondary capitol building for the planet of Lorrd that was designed to fill the roles of capitol building should the capitol ever fall or be otherwise unavailable. Astride the tower were four statues of Lorrdian design and build, tattooed with Lorrdian axioms and truisms. These statues were a cleverly disguised docking system used to host the Kabor-class Command and Control Center - the primary capitol building of Lorrd, nicknamed the Labyrinth - while it was on-world.
- Grand Central Station: Located directly below the Adjunct Tower was an ornate hall designed in a classical Lorrdian style that served as a hub for a complex system of hovertrain traffic within the massive complex that facilitated ease of transport. The walls and ceiling featured hidden messages, a Lorrdian variant of tactile writing was used to inscribe the greatest contributions to science that graduates from Lorrd University had developed. The result was a mesmerizing mosaic of dots and dashes that, at a distance, looked like a grand, abstract art piece.
- The Pit of Mon: Dedicated to 'higher' sciences and mathematics, Mon housed numerous observatories, satellite up-links, astronomical databases, hyperspace monitoring stations, hyperlane mapping centers, an atom smasher, and numerous other technologies useful in the fields of physics, astrophysics, and complex mathematics. Hosted within Mon was the Central Transit Authority, a high security department lab that aimed to provide safe travel throughout the galaxy. The Transit Authority - often referred to as the CTA - worked in tandem with the Pits Shin and Silon to design maps that could were completely free to obtain via bi-weekly Lorrdian holonet update. As of 860 ABY, their reliability was rated an 89.872% on the holonet.
- The Pit of Livi: Dedicated to biological and chemical sciences, Livi was predominantly a testing site for bio-engineering research, biochemical technologies, applied molecular cloning, and chemical manufacturing. A supplemental spire complex along the northern quadrant was dedicated to the synthesis and study of medicines, their impact on different alien species, and potential applications for them. Another along the eastern quadrant was dedicated to de-aging techniques, lifespan extension, and 'biological immortality' research; while unsuccessful as of 860 ABY, they did maintain an entire sub-complex dedicated to stasis booths. Highly restricted and under constant guard, several contagion laboratories were located below the surface, in these labs, bacteria, viruses, and fungi were studied under strict quarantine procedures with their findings restricted to the highest authorities. Some researchers of other pits theorized it was those of Livi who were to blame for a string of unexplained viral outbreaks that, though mundane, were disconcertingly uncurable by modern medicine.
- The Pit of Gon: The most recent addition, Gon was dedicated to criminology, forensic sciences, and the study of criminal justice. Here are numerous facilities designed to train the next generation of Lorrd Security Officers, criminal psycho-analysts, and study criminal behaviors throughout the galaxy. Known to only a handful of individuals was a secret project buried deep below the glimmering towers of this pit; a series of supercomputers hardwired together that are being fed every available piece of information on every known criminal in the galaxy that the Lorrdians are able to get their hands on. The project's ultimate goal was to be able to predict the next move of criminals with a known modus operandi and intercept them before they are able to commit the crime. As of 860 ABY, the project has had no success and largely remained under guard in the bowels of Gon.
- The Pit of Shin: Dedicated to the business and communication sciences, Shin was the least populated pit and one of the most well guarded pits with almost the entire cone dedicated to a truly massive listening post just under four kilometers in circumference; nearly the entire size of the pit itself. The listening post was listed on official documents as a communications array designed to better link the Kanz sector and adjacent near-Kanz systems to the intergalactic holonet. Other things studied here were business informatics and management, communications, information systems and management, and social science.
- The Pit of Silon: Dedicated to computational and coding sciences, Silon houses some of the most advanced computer systems in the Kanz sector. Its inhabitants utilize its facilities to design and test a staggering array of computer systems and programs designed for all manner of uses, from firing solution programs to droid personality programming. Silon was one of the most active with many of its researchers seemingly unwilling to sleep in their assigned living spaces or even in the provided temporary living spaces; preferring instead to sleep at their desks in short bouts while they bring in food and drink from the local Bantha Burger and Noodle Bar against the rules of the computer science labs. As the work done by these individuals was second to none on Lorrd, their rule-breaking was tolerated to a point. Sound and computer engineering labs are also present, having a smaller contingent than the more generalized labs.
- The Pit of Lales: Vital to the continuation of Lorrd, the Lales was dedicated to architectural and construction sciences, including but not limited to civil, geological and environmental engineering. Students and faculty researching out of this pit are charged with the upkeep, observation, and maintenance of the planet's geothermal power grid; ensuring accident-free work environments. Many of the faculty members designed the new infrastructure commissioned by the Sith Empire to modernize Lorrd's previously aging public infrastructure.
- The Pit of Moberan: The largest and most populated pit, the Moberan was dedicated to the engineering and mechanical sciences. Unable to mass produce anything by themselves, the researchers of the pit did however have access to several foundries that produced enough alloys, metals, and minerals for limited runs and prototypes developed in-house. The sheer variety of research done here was truly astounding; some participated in starship design and weapons manufacture while others focused on droids, or engines, or even the development of new alloys. It was often said that when originally constructed, the Sith favored those assigned to Moberan; for it was these that developed weapons of war for the Sith. Moberan had - aside from the aforementioned foundries - numerous locations that could produce prototypes for most things. Including, but not limited to, droids, weapons, personal defenses, starships, starfighters, explosives, and more.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Built as a final means of asserting their dominance over their ancient history, the Lorrd University Center for Applied Sciences converted the Slave Pits of Lorrd from a reminder of their horrific past into a symbol of achievement and progress in the face of any and all adversity. With construction funded by the Sith Empire, the Lorrdians were left to staff and work the facilities by themselves; a task the second Prelate of Lorrd - Sedith Dinn - found them unprepared for. With a string of brilliance among the Lorrdian populace but without any sophisticated, extant infrastructure to facilitate such a mass employment of civilians in a highly restricted facility, an entirely new paradigm had to be adopted. It was decided that the staff would come from the best and brightest of Lorrd University who passed a series of tests to determine their willingness and cooperation to keep what they worked on confidential. Some students were delighted at the notion that their work would be properly attributed to them and that there was no risk of theft, others however, feared that the militarization of science led down a dark path. This stark difference in ideological approaches led to the facility being drastically understaffed for most of its initial tenure.
As time progressed and developments began to churn out from the doors, more students displayed a certain willingness to have their research classified for a time and to be later released to the public when the government deemed it appropriate. This too came with it new opportunities as scientists from those governments and scientific institutions allied with the Sith Empire began to request their own admission into the booming research complex. Yet again unprepared, Sedith commissioned the Imperial Corps of Engineers to construct the Kabor-class Command and Control Center, a mobile space station capable of making planetfall that would act as an administrative hub in conjunction with the newly constructed Adjunct Tower, both located within the central pit. From this new post, a grand system of byzantine bureaucracy would be enacted to organize and process all applicants, determine their legitimacy by work and confidentiality, then assign them to a pit that best fit their proposed or ongoing research.
As of 860 ABY, the population of 22,382 souls operated like a well-oiled machine. Efficient, diverse, and productive, each individual had their place within the grand machine.
