The Lucky Ones

About a month had passed since Seo had been called to Eshan by the Force. Her mission there became clear quickly when a distress beacon belonging to a Silver had gone off in her ship. It had turned into rescue and the people she had brought aboard her ship had ended up being royalty there.

Luckily they had accepted her help and she had taken them to Kashyyyk. Now she had decided to take a bit time to check up on the small family.

She wore clothes that would easily fit into a desert terrain much easier than that of the forest around them. One thing that might be noticed was a simple gold threading that ran through her garb. On her hip rested her lightsaber. Around her neck, she wore a scarf that could be pulled up to cover much of her face.

Knocking on the door to where the family was staying, she stepped back to for one of them to open the door.

"Answer the door Kat!" Her mother called from her sister's bedroom. The house they gotten on Kashyyyk was very small in comparison to their luxury home on Eshan, however for the three of them it was big enough. Kat wandered to the door and opened it to see Seo standing there waiting. It took Kat a moment to recognise her but it was the same woman who saved them on Eshan, helping them escape the Mandalorian forces. Kat gave a big smile.

"Hi, great to see you again!" Kat stated, as she moved aside to let Seo in if she wished.

"Who is it?!" Her mother shouted from another bedroom, picking up dirty laundry. Kat looked a little annoyed and rolled her eyes.

"It's the Jedi Knight who came and rescued us from Eshan, come say hi and thank you while I go tidy myself up." Kat was wearing her long PJ bottoms and a loose baggy shirt several sizes too big. It had been her lazy day to just chill and play video games. Her mother came to the main room and smiled to Seo, her mother was in her late forties or early fifties but her skin didn't show it, looking like she could be lat thirties with short white hair. She was wearing a white blouse and long skirt. Shaking her head when she saw what Kat was wearing at the moment, Kat dashed off to change.

Her mother stood near Seo, "Thank you for coming to our aid, we were so worried about what could happen. Mandalorians are so violent and often worked with Sith, terrible state of things when they accuse us of slavery, being infamous slavers themselves in the past." Kat's mother could have easily continued her rant on the Mandalorians but Kat returned quickly with her long hair in a high ponytail, white vest top and some ripped jeans. Her feet bare but the robot feet not needing shoes for protection.

"Sorry about my mother, she's just terrified for my brothers and brother-in-law that she's blaming the Mandalorians alot for it." Kat explained as she casted a disapproving look to her mother.

She heard the yelled request from the mother for Kat to answer the door and patiently waited for that to happen. Her eyes looked across the outside of the house to try and figure out what the people were like inside. Under the stressful situation they had on Eshan they were not the real people they were now. Back then they were fugitives and running from the Mandalorians.

When the door opened and Kat greeted her with a smile, it was returned and she walked into the house she was invited into. The small home was just that, but it had become a home already. It was lived in and taken care of.

Noticing what her fellow Jedi wore, she almost chuckled slightly. Her mother joined them and Kat excused herself to go change. Her comment about the Mandalorians being violent, Seo really wanted to try and correct her, but just couldn't bring herself to do it right now. The return of Kat also kept Seo from doing this.

"You are welcome. I'm just glad to have had a hand in rescuing you and your family. What plans do you have now?"

Listening to the apology, she still waited on an answer from Kat's mother.

Their respective colouring was similar and Seo wondered slightly if she might have some Echani blood in her. Not knowing anything of her father, it was a mystery to her.

Kat mother smiled as she gestured to the house. "Make this more homely, make sure it is suited for my grandchild. Perhaps we should request a second house, I'm sure Pete," she turned to Seo, "Pete is Rose's husband." She explained. "Sure he will be in contact any time soon." Kat stiffened as her mother talked, word about her brother-in-law was not going to good at time stage she feared. Her friend promised to get in touch when she heard news about it, though Beth being Mandalorian, Kat had to be careful that her mother didn't know about the friendship.

"Then will be Mat and Leonard. Mat is Kat's older twin brother and Leonard is my eldest child." Kat's mother explained as Kat stiffened even more, her brothers were royal guards, likely fighting on the frontline during the takeover by Mandalorian Empire, to not hear anything was definitely a bad sign. They knew better than that, at least she hoped they did. Kat nervously fidgeted with her hands, she couldn't bring herself to tell her mother that they likely lost all the men in the family, not when she was so hopeful and that there was nothing to prove they were dead. Nothing proved they were alive either though. It was a hard balance, her sister knew the likelihood that they lost her husband and brothers, but couldn't face their mother on it either.

"Anyway, I best leave you two to it I guess." Kat's mother smiled warmly and walked into the kitchen. As Kat stood there, unsure what to say.

Having been present on Eshan when the Mandos had come in, Seo knew just how likely it was those men were dead. It was also clear the mother had not come to terms with the truth. Time would tell on what was accurate or not. Kat had accepted what had happened most likely.

All she did was give a simple nod as her mother spoke on the family. She read that in the expressions Kat showed to her mother and almost lifted an eyebrow. Their people were similar in a way and used their bodies to communicate. Theirs was more through combat while Seo's was through expressions, movements and even kinetics.

Giving Kat's mother a bow when she left them to chat, she stood back up and faced her fellow Jedi.

"I am glad you seem to have to settled here. How are things? Really?"

Kat looked over to Seo and nodded her head. Her family had begun to settle in, her sister was enjoying time looking after children in the daycare centre, calling it baby experience. It looked like a horror show of screaming, noisy and rude children to Kat but she dare not argue with her sister over it all. Her mother was becoming more relaxed with things, easing into the new life that they have. It would be interesting to see if she ever wanted to return to Eshan if the Mandalorians ever lose control of the planet. Her sister would likely return, if only to search for her husband if nothing is confirmed and to ensure that people are able to trust their government, dispelling the crime and outlaws that were likely to try taking advantage after the Empire left.

Kat shrugged somewhat, it was hard to answer Seo's question. "Some days are better than others. It isn't really easy to talk about, how do you know what to feel when you are forced from your home?" Kat's voice was monotoned. She felt quite despondent and was somewhat distancing herself from her emotions. She was taking on more of a leadership role in the family, her sister told her that she was becoming the leader of the family, Kat brushed it off but evidence was making itself clearer. She was doing more of things that her father and brothers use to do around the house and in conversation. It was all made weirder by the fact she was the youngest.

In some ways, Seo could sympathise with Kat. Her own home had been taken over by the Sith Empire and some of it had been destroyed. Recovery had been made in many of the areas, but some still remained even after all these years. Her own home had been safe during those turbulent times, but the touch of the Sith was still there. Like Kat and her family, Seo had been forced to flee from her home, but she did have the option to return if she wanted.

The Silvers had taken her in back when that happened and they had done the same for Kat and her family. Something they had in common and it might not be known by her sister in arms.

"It can be difficult to come to terms with the changes. However, I find it easier to accomplish by keeping busy. Back when the Sith took over my own home, I fled and found the Silvers. They kept me too occupied to dwell on what losses I suffered. Maybe it would also work for you?"
