The Mad King

Sitting in his throne looking bored as ever Bael sat one leg crossed over the other as his crimson eyes stared at the holocommunication device that sat before him. There were many things that the humans had brought with them that had helped launch the Xela’Dorn years ahead in technology, and this was one of them. The humans had came long ago not to long after the Calos family had ascended to the throne, and oh the havoc they caused could still be felt to this day. At one point battles had been conducted with hands and melee weapons, and now it was fought with projectile weapons that could kill someone before they had a chance to react. “Oh how your ancestors would roll over in their graves… If only they had them.” Whispered the raspy voice in Bael’s head.

“For one day can you not interfere.” Bael grumbled as he placed face in his hands rubbing them back and forth against his obsidian skin. “There is much to attend to. I must finish this message and send it off.”

“Why waste our time on this? There are many other things to bide our time and fit our goals. Such as murdering the ones who betrayed us! That betrayed you! Yet you sit here wasting your time trying to gain the attention of the galaxy!” The voice retorted sounding highly agitated.

Moving his hands from his face and massaging the sides of his head Bael sighed deeply. “How many times must I say this is for the betterment of our… My people. They deserve better, and Selvetarm could benefit from setting up trade with outside sources.”

“See that now you’re rationalizing! You know this is just to fill your selfish desire to go out and explore the galaxy. To visit the coordinates that were gathered from the humans computers. Even then you will not be able to escape your responsibility to this planet, to these people no matter how hard you try.”

“I told yo-” Bael began to say but the sound of approaching footsteps drew his attention. Turning his head Bael was greeted by the face of his advisor. One who he had grew up with and one he called a friend. “Aw Moras you’re back!” Bael yelled in greeting as he stood and embraced his adviser.. “So how did the peace talks go? Are the Ciax and Ciri families in agreement about me bringing outsiders to this planet in hopes of opening trade? “

“Sorry to tell you this but they aren’t. They think this is pure ignorance on your part. We already have their technology, why would we need anything else from them? We have our Xeonian crystals, our Xillion and Vinrillium. What else do we need?”

“Even so its still not enough. We need more if we ever hope to not be beneath someone else's thumbs again.” Bael said turning his back on Moras and walking back towards the throne. “Don’t you understand brother? I’m doing this for the betterment of our people.”

“I’m sorry Bael but I do not understand.” Moras answered his head looking towards the ground while his hands retreated into his cloak. The sound of a dagger being drawn from a sheath was then heard as Moras pounced forward like a wild animal towards Bael.

Having been all too familiar with the sound Bael spun on his right heel and brought his left leg around in a kick that connected with Moras’ wrist. As the blade was knocked out of Moras’ grasp and sent spiraling through the air Bael was gifted with a boot to his chest. Being lifted from his feet Bael felt the wind get knocked out of him. Hitting the top of the stairs near his throne Bael continued to roll down another ten stairs before coming to a stop at the bottom before his throne.

“BETRAYAL!” The voice screamed as Bael worked his way up to his knees. Moras slowly began to approach his king while disrobing as was tradition for the Xela’Dorn before combat.

“I cannot let you go through with this. The Ciax family paid me a large sum to ensure you didn’t. Why couldn't you just take my advice like you were supposed to? Huh? Yet you still delude yourself with thinking you can do better by the people. The upperclass deserve a say to! Yet you let the scum of this planet wander around like their us. Like they have privileges? Then you free the slaves?! You have overstepped your bounds. ” Moras stated as his hands reached down to his waist and he drew two curved daggers.

Eyes wide as he stared down at the ground Bael shook uncontrollably and his right hand dug into his left arm till blood could be seen sliding from beneath the nails. "We were supposed to be friends! You should've believed in me."

Making a tch sound with his mouth a sadistic smile touched Moras' lips. "Foolish... Just like your entire family. But don't worry I'll reunite you with them soon. " Moras said as he closed the distance between him and Bael. Slowly deliberately he took each step one at a time. The sound of his footsteps echoing around the chamber. "You were meant to be nothing more than a pawn, but you just had to fail. That Calos pride huh? Makes you want to do the right thing? Makes you feel like you can save everybody? You couldn't even save your sisters."

Teeth gritting and hands curling into fists a almost primitive growl came from Bael. "Kill HIM!!! Stop wasting our time! He betrayed us! Get him!" The voice shouted at Bael and he did react this time. Pouncing from his feet Bael closed the distance between him and Moras with a single bound. Delivering three quick jabs at Moras they all met their marks. One to the man's left ribs, another to his core, and the last a hit directly to Moras' jaw. Each impact sounded off with a meaty thump causing Moras to stumble backwards up the stairs.

Retaliating Moras brought both his blades down in a X trying to cut Bael across his chest, though midway through he lunged forward and reversed the direction of the blades. Retreating back a step in order to not be cut Bael was caught by surprise as the lunge carried Moras directly into him causing them both to go tumbling down the stairs once again. Using their momentum Moras rolled to his feet and wasted no time as he spun throwing the curved dagger at Bael.

Bael himself had done the same thing and spun catching the dagger by the hilt right before it impacted with his head. Inverting his grip he and Moras met each other midway as the true battle began. IT was something akin to a martial hurricane as the two danced through the chamber with Moras pressing the advantage. Moras was one of the Xela'Dorn that instead of being all speed and dexterity packed quite a bit of strength behind each blow. While Bael on the other hand was all about speed. Ducking left, then right, and even spinning beneath another slash Bael avoided blocking any blows if he could.

Moras nor Bael had broken a sweat and the fight even brought a smile to both their lips. In their youths before everything that had happened with Bael's family the two used to constantly spar. Even after the betrayal Bael couldn't help but still reach out hoping Moras would come to his senses. So as Moras brought a heavy fist around that collided with Bael's jaw he spun feigning pain. With the distraction Bael continued the spin and crouched low to the ground as he was carried beneath Mora's next attack and ended up behind his opponent with teh curved dagger at his throat. "It's not to late Moras. You can still atone for your mistakes. Don't you leave me to."

"This is the way things must be. If you don't kill me the Ciax family will if not one of their assassins. Better to die by your hand." Moras said body stiff as he dropped the dagger from his hand. "Just end it... Please."

Those words made Bael freeze as he remembered his time with his sister the night he killed the Cypher family.

"Bael... Please, you have to do it. I can't live like this anymore. I'm tired, and I'm sick. We're abused, used as toys for those scum. Please I don't want to go another day like this." Cila begged Bael as she embraced her brother.

"I can't. You're all I have. Everyone else is gone. No one even cares about what happens to us. I can't loose you to." Bael said clinging tightly to his sister not wanting to release her.

"I know this is hard on you, but it will give you the strength you need." Cila said planting a kiss on Bael's head. "Do this for me, and when you get free I want you to kill them all. Can you do that for me? You've always been the strongest."

"No I can't. I won't loose you" Bael said but felt his hands being pushed away by Cila as she placed a shard of glass in his hands. One hand stroking Bael's cheeks Cila cried as well shaking her head.

"Don't worry it will all be fine." Wrapping her hands around Bael's she sat up kissing him on his head and yanked his hands forward making the blade dig into her chest. "Make us proud Bael. We'll all be watching." Cila promised as blood slowly leaked from the sides of her mouth and she fell backwards.

Snapping back to reality as he felt Moras' grasp on his arm Bael watched as he was forced to slit his only friends throat. Not even the voice spoke to Bael as he stood there and watched his friends corpse fall to the ground. Kneeling and placing Moras' head in his lap Bael looked up at the ceiling cursing the gods, cursing everything and everyone working against him. This had cemented his decision.
