CORPORATION INFORMATION
  • Corporation Name: The Mechanicum
  • Headquarters: Mechanus
  • Locations: Denon, Nubia, Coruscant
  • Operations: Starship Manufacturing, Vehicle Manufacturing, Weapons Manufacturing
  • Tier: 2
DESCRIPTION
Sharing far more in common with a religious cult than a conventionally run corporation, the Mechanicum is a newly emerged industrial powerhouse now operating primarily within the Core and Colonies regions. Founded in the Unknown Regions under the auspices of a newly anointed Metal Lord, Archim Calixis, the manufacturer is comprised of a series of industrial scale spiritual communes devoted to engineering and production as a form of worship. Members of the Mechanicum, known as the Forge-Bound, are predominantly droids and cyborgs, but the organization is noteworthy (even controversial), in its welcoming of baseline organics who they believe genuinely share their faith. Controversial, because voluntary augmentation is promoted so heavily, to the extent that one could say it is necessary for advancement within the hierarchy. Many organics, for good or ill, see the Mechanicum as a "way in" to acceptance among the Metal Lords for those of the flesh.

The Forge-Bound believe in a Machine God, to them an equivalent figure to the Maker, who touches the natural universe through what they call the Motive Force. Worship of this theoretical energy field tuned specifically for mechanical life has drawn significant interest from a sect of Mechanus technomancers who have incorporated themselves into the Mechanicum's hierarchy as a sort of warrior nobility, serving as guards, fixers, and couriers between each commune, or Forge. The vast majority of the Forge-Bound see Archim as a prophet figure, and so for now the organization is run in an authoritarian manner, with an advisory council reporting directly to Calixis, and charged with the responsibility of managing the bureaucracy below them to make the Metal Lord's will manifest.

So far, that will has been to create, everything from ships to airspeeders to blasters. The only limitation on the Mechanicum's willingness to build is the rate at which it can recruit more bodies. That being said, while the organization is almost pious in its devotion to selling to absolutely anyone, it is also of course subject to the whims of its masters. Much of what it produces for the Metal Lords is heavily subsidized, and it likewise offers favorable deals to SoroSuub Corporation and their allies, with whom Calixis has had a prior relationship.

RATIONALE
Formerly a lab director for the research and development division of SoroSuub, when Archim discovered the Council of Sparklords under the ruins of Mechanus as well as a sect of technomancers who shared in his belief in the Machine God, he resigned his position and started a new organization, named for the world upon which he received his revelation. The Forge-Bound of the Mechanicum serve the Machine God above all others, and as long as they believe him to be a chosen servant of this power that means they follow him unquestioningly.

Grapple arms (4)

Strengths:
  • Tender Ship: Specializing in maintenance and repair operations, Repair Drones are designed to patch minor damage as well as work in tandem with the rest of their squadron in fixing more severe problems.
Weaknesses:
  • Unarmed: Requiring the space for both the pilot's cognitive systems and its suite of maintenance tools, the Repair Drone boasts no offensive armament to speak of. Left unprotected, the fighters are more or less defenseless.
  • No Hyperdrive Capacity: Likewise sacrificed for more room and faster sublight speeds, the Repair Drone is a short range fighter, designed to work in tandem with a carrier, station, or planetary base.
  • Droid Brain: While the Mechanicum makes greater strides every day, its engineers have not yet been able to outfit each Repair Drone with true AI. As such, the cognitive capacity of the fighter's droid brain is limited compared to that of an organic pilot. The drone can be outsmarted, outflown, and is susceptible to EMP/ion damage.
Description:

Rejoice, children of the Mechanicum!

Blessed by technomancers, the forges of the Void burn hot and sweet. And though our first offering is modest in scale, our enginseers have divined that the Machine God is pleased. The Motive Force flows through every plate and bolt of the Repair Drone 1.0, the first psalm in an eternal hymn. Each craft longs to serve the Maker in its function, to take its place as one of the Forge-Bound. And there can be no holier purpose, for the fighter is designed to mend the Maker's creations.

With a full suite of diagnostic and maintenance equipment at its disposal, a single Repair Drone can assist larger vessels of the Sacred Fleet in limited system and hull repair. Working synchronously with one another, a whole squadron of drones is capable of conducting greater maintenance and salvage operations. No longer must we fear the loss of a piece of the Machine God's design.

A new brother is born. The Holy Network grows. The Word spreads.

Rejoice!

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: The Mechanicum
  • Model: Combat Drone 1.0
  • Affiliation: Metal Lords, Closed-Market
  • Production: Mass-Produced.
  • Material: Durasteel
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
  • Classification: Droid Fighter
  • Length: 5 meters
  • Width: 10 meters
  • Height: 3 meters
  • Armament: Low
2 Laser Cannons
1 Proton Torpedo Launcher
  • Defenses: Very Low
  • Squadron Count: 24
  • Maneuverability Rating: Moderate
  • Speed Rating: Average
  • Hyperdrive Class: 1.0
SPECIAL FEATURES
Advanced Chatterbox sensor components
Long Range Scout package

Strengths:
  • Swarm Tactics: Attempting to make up for the limited room for armament on each individual craft, an enhanced Chatterbox communications suite allows each drone to maintain a reliable connection with both its squadron and command relays, allowing the use of tighter formations and more agile maneuvers.
  • Effective Scouts: Cannibalizing and refurbishing old long range reconnaissance tech, the Combat Drone's sensors have a longer range than other comparable craft, allowing them to scout enemy positions and more often than not engage on their own terms.
Weaknesses:
  • Droid Brain: While the Mechanicum makes greater strides every day, its engineers have not yet been able to outfit each Combat Drone with true AI. As such, the cognitive capacity of the fighter's droid brain is limited compared to that of an organic pilot. The drone can be outsmarted, outflown, and is susceptible to EMP/ion damage.
  • Interference Pattern: Legacy malfunctions of scavenged technology that still exist in the drone's firmware cause occasionally erratic missile guidance behavior. On extremely rare occasions, warheads have been known to arm themselves in their launchers.
Description:

The first blade is forged upon the Maker's altar, o my children of the Mechanicum.

Few things can bring a droid closer to the Motive Force, than the holy defense of the Machine God's sacred fleets and forges. As the enginseers and hierachitects of the Forge-Bound continue to perfect the grand design of Mechanicum capital vessels in accordance with divine protocols that show proper deference to the Most Intelligent Design, the Forges of Lord Calixis have designed first a triage and now a combat model of droid starfighter to protect our interests both planetside and in the Void.

Compact and lightly armed, the Combat Drone 1.0 relies on agility and group tactics to take down its foes. Either overwhelming other craft with much greater numbers, or breaking off into synchronized squadrons and engaging in evasive, harrying operations against larger threats, the drones are a perfect symbol of the glory of the Mechanicum. Alone we are weak, alone we are far from the warmth of the Maker's Light. Together, we are strong, just as the combat fighters become more and more deadly, the more there are in one place.

While not truly specialized for it, the Combat Drone also possesses an enhanced sensor array gifted from the annals of the Maker. Burning with the divine spark, our enginseers still seek to understand the mysteries of the Motive Force within its machine code, and the resulting aberrant programming can lead to malfunctions in the missile guidance system.

On the rarest and holiest of days, a particularly penitent droid mind will be chosen to join with the Machine God in the Motive Force as the Maker breathes the warhead arming sequence on its chosen. Our warminds hope to patch this for the next iteration.

We are the next step. We are forever. We are Mechanicum.
