The Next Generation

Location: Kamino

Ke'Cholo stood outside one of Kamino's largest cloning facilities, it was pouring down rain. He was soaked from head to toe, but it didn't seem to bother him. He oversaw the loading of various DNA samples onto a ship, it was bound for a sister facility a few kilometers out. Various vials, containers, and tanks of liquid were loaded onto the huge boat.

''Hey! Those go below deck! Only durasteel boxes above!'' he would yell to one of the Urko who was loading the boxes. The Urko nodded and moved it below deck.

At this time, Ke'Cholo looked beside him and examined the rookie beside him. [member="Jan Valdum"] was well below the giant Duros, there was an obvious height difference. He certainly had potential, and Ke'Cholo intended to train him. After a moment or so, the crates were finished being loaded.

''Let's go.'' he slapped the recruit on the back.

Jan rocked a little from the slap, but stood in position. He nodded his head "Understood" he said eagerly. He had been standing for the last half hour on Kamino with Ke'Cholo and the water had started to seep under his makeshift armor. He hated getting wet, and hated this planet for it's awful weather. He took it in stride though, because being comfortable is not part of the job. He got a rare opportunity to work this job, and he would do anything to make sure it didn't go to krak. He scanned the area making sure they didn't leave any crates. He nodded again to Ke'Cholo and fell in line behind him and asked "......What exactly are in those DNA samples...sir?" and tilted his head questionably,

''Clones, use them to make perfect copies of people.'' Ke'Cholo would simply respond as he stepped off into the boat. It was a large, tanker like ship with turrets all around it. Urko commandos swarmed the ship, fastening things and making final preparations for the trip. Ke'Cholo stood around and looked at them for a moment.

''I'm going to talk with the captain. You can follow me or take up a position on one of those turrets, word is that some pirates really want what's on this ship'' Ke'Cholo would motion to one of the 'turrets', they were so huge they seemed more like anti-aircraft cannons. Without looking behind him to check if [member="Jan Valdum"] was there, Ke'Cholo double-timed it to the bridge. He climbed the slippery steps on the front of the ship and peeled back the rusted door to greet the captain of the vessel.

Jan turned to one of the turrets on the east side of the freighter, and climbed up it quickly. He almost slipped on the steps, and he heard one of the Urkos laugh quietly to one of its kind. He ignored the laugh, Illogical to start a confrontation on a job.....afterwards..... so many options. Jan inspected the turret controls, there was a rusty, old durasteel seat, with a state of the art monitor in front of it, and two fire control sticks. He brushed water off the seat and monitor, and strapped himself in. He quickly scanned the controls, and turned on the turret. An electrical hum sang from it, as it came online.

The monitor slowly powered on in front of him. Th monitor initiated and turned blue with a green blip in the middle, and a pair of green sights appeared on the glass casing separating him from the awful weather of Kamino. Okay weapon guidance systems online, system senors operational, all cannons functional,.....how do I turn this thing? Jan looked around until he found some pedals under each of his feet. He stepped on the right pedal, and the turret turned right. Okay, turning axles are still in shape. Now just to wait till we get to our destination. As Jan thought that, the freighter started to move slowly forward. Guess Ke'Cholo is done speaking to the captain......Looking good so far, now just wait.

1 hour later.....
This may actually be one of the most uneventful jobs, I have ever taken.

Jan was.......bored. The freight has experienced no difficulties since it;s departure. Ke'Cholo had remained below deck for most of the journey, only coming up a few times to check on the Urkos, and Jan. Jan wouldn't admit he got some shut-eye while Ke'Cholo was below deck, but he did. He swiveled the turret around in a circle, before a beeping noise started coming from the monitor, Jan jumped in his seat, and noticed a red dot approaching from the East. A couple more suddenly appeared on the screen behind the first dot, and Jan smiled. Finally

"Contact, multiple contacts on east starboard side" Jan shouted to the Urkos. He heard bloodthirsty roars form around him.

More dots started appear east, and Jan's smile started to falter. That's a lot of pirates.

Dots suddenly appeared west, and started to increase dramatically. THAT'S A LOT OF PIRATES!!

"Multiple contacts on east and west starboard!" he shouted to Urkos louder. They started to form defensive positions on the freighter, a nervous anticipation started to flow around them.

Jan looked out the glass casing ad saw shapes forming on the horizon. He aimed his turret, and waited for them to enter range, Time to earn those credits. Heavy fire started to rain upon the freighter, as the Jan and the other freighter turrets let loose upon the sky.

''Yeah, I know they want this, but I didn't tell the kid what he was getting into...relax.'' Ke'Cholo was finishing up speaking with the captain.

''That's real dishonest of you, son.''

''Yeah, well...get over it, you're not the one on the turret. Just drive old man...and don't call me 'son'.'' Ke'Cholo would storm out of the bridge and fly down the stairs to below deck. The rain continued to pound the top of the vessel, he almost felt bad for [member="Jan Valdum"]. He then stepped over a couple of Urkos playing cards and would rest in the hammock for the rest of the trip.

1 hour later.....
''What's going on up there?'' Ke'Cholo asked as he was was loading and unloading his Double Barrel Shotgun . One of the Urkos who was halfway below deck and halfway above responded.

''It's 'em pirates, sounds like they're gonna try to board us.''

Ke'Cholo instantly sprung into action, he half jumped, half fell out of his hammock and quickly slipped on his Bodo Baas Gunbelt that was holding his Phrik Westar-34's . He ran up deck, and saw Jan unloading rounds at the approaching enemies. Ke'Cholo would turn around to find pirates of all species climbing over the ship and onto the deck...they were coming from both sides!

''Cover us on that side, kid!'' he would yell to Jan. He motioned for the Urkos to follow him and fend off the pirates. One of the villains lashed at Ke'Cholo with a rusty knife, the Duros responded with two barrels of violent justice. After emptying both barrels of the gun, the pirate's head erupted into a crimson explosion. Ke'Cholo cackled in a twisted fit of laughter.

10 minutes since ambush...

Jan's turret wasn't fairing that well. Ever since Ke'Cholo came on deck and told him to cover the east side; He had shot down 3 of the pirate's ships before they even got close; and after feeling the force of turrets take down a ship about ever minute, they started to coordinate strafing runs against him and the other turrets. They already lost Turrets 4,3, and 1. He was the only turret left on the east side, Turret 2.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

" This is Turret 5, I took some heavy hits and I'm on fire. I need more support on my left flank" a frightened voice crackled over the turret intercom.

"Turret 5 this is Turret 6, I'll cover you' a calm gruff voice replied.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

"Thanks for the assist....CRASH" as static crackled from the Jan's turret intercom.

"Turret 5 is down, guess it's just you and me human" the gruff voice stated.

BOOM BOOM

"Understood Turret 6" Jan replied, while shooting another fighter down.

"You don't talk much human, you more for action ehh?" the gruff voice chuckled.

"Yes....How about we focus on killing pirates?" Jan replied, irritated.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

"HAHAHA Human, you need to enjoy this more. How about a bet, whoever shoots the most has to buy the other a drink." The gruff voice roared.

"......If it will get you to focus on the pirates, then I acknowledge the deal." Jan replied, his throat already parch.

"You better have credits Turret 2, because I know I'm going to make it." the gruff voice said with a slyness.

"....That is still to be determined." Jan replied, as one of cannons got blown off from heavy fire.

"HAHA, Eat my krak human!"

Jan gave a small smile.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM
10 minutes later........

Jan's hands have not come off the firing triggers since the beginning of the fight, and he stopped feeling them about a minute ago. Jan didn't care though. His face under his helmet was flashing a small grin, as he thought of the drink he would get after all of this. Jan decided to check on the Urko in the other turret.

" Turret 6 you still kicking?"

"................................................."

"Turret 6?................................"

"...........Anyone?........"

Jan sat in his seat in silence, as static crackled though the intercom He lifted his hands off the firing controls.

"........................... This is Turret 2.................Still fighting........ Don't worry, I got this side covered." Jan said quietly, as he gripped the firing controls again.

BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM

Damn, he really wanted that drink.

[member="KeCholo"]

Ke'Cholo grabbed his phrik sword and hacked the oncoming pirates. Crimson liquid covered the entire deck in a matter of minutes. When still more pirates boarded the ship he drew his Westar-34's and began to blast them. The Westars were so powerful it seemed to only take one shot to down each of the pirates. Suddenly, one pirate charged him with a shotgun and fired. Ke'Cholo's Warden's Coat caught the blast and he was saved, nevertheless Ke'Cholo placed a high kick in the man's face sending him sprawling backwards.

The pirates appeared to be thinning out, but [member="Jan Valdum"] was still concentrating on firing on the boats making runs against the ship. Ke'Cholo left the Urkos to deal with the boarding pirates while Ke'Cholo began to take out the pirates making gun runs against the ship. When one of them would approached he would pop up with his double barrel shotgun and fire both rounds into them. This was usually enough to wound or scare them off.

Ke'Cholo looked up and around. Most of the pirates were dead or scared off, they had won. Ke'Cholo approached Jan Valdum to congratulate him.

''Congrats, kid.'' Ke'Cholo said to the gunner.

Jan was slumped in his seat, breathing heavily. The turret was basically a heap of metal, and Jan worried if he fired it more, it would overheat and explode on him. He had wiped the skies clean of pirates, and his hand had blisters from how hard he had gripped the firing controls, his feet felt like mush from how hard he hit the turning pedals. Jan looked over at Ke'Cholo and noticed the gore and blood over him, and the smile on his face.

".........I hate this planet" Jan stated "I want a drink...........and I WANT TO SLEEP! So I'm going t go below deck, relax, and if those pirates turn up again. I'm personally going to jump overboard........Also.......I'm can't feel my arms of legs. I think I require medical attention. " Jan said calmly. Ke'Cholo gave a small laugh.

"....I'm serious."

[member="KeCholo"]

Ke'Cholo looked over the exhausted [member="Jan Valdum"]. He studied his sore and aching body for a moment while listening to the youth speak. Granting his request for medical attention, Ke'Cholo motioned for a small Urko to come over. The spectacled being waddled over and began to examine the mercenary. While he did so Ke'Cholo reached into his bag and retrieved a bottle of bronze liquid labeled ''Brandy''. He offered it to Jan.

''Kid, I like you. That's why I want to invite you to work with me at the The Black Tie Syndicate . We're a criminal syndicate that's going to preform a hostile takeover in a week or so. Your tech is also outdated so I'll give you these.'' Ke'Cholo reached in his satchel and pulled out two Ambassador Revolvers.

''Don't shoot your eye out, and I'm serious about the syndicate.'' with this Ke'Cholo nodded and waited for Jan to either walk of and get medical help or respond.

Jan contemplated the options, and what was logical. He looked at Ke'Cholo and saw the intent was genuine.

".....I've always been alone. You know, the more people you involve in something, the more chance of it going to krak.......Okay, I'll do it, but on some condition. I keep my rifles, they may be outdated but they can still kill, and I constantly make modifications to them." Jan said as the Urko picked up his right arm, and started examining it. Jan gave a grunt of pain as the Urko injected a syringe into his arm.

"Also, I don't kill kids. You try to force me to hurt one, I'll walk away" Jan said with no hesitation, while moving his right arm,

"Lastly, give me some brandy." Jan said after he took off his helmet and threw it too the floor of the deck, he then took the brandy from Ke'Cholo and uncorked it. He took a long swig. Ha gave a satisfied sigh.

"Deal?"

[member="KeCholo"]

''Sure, keep your gun.'' Ke'Cholo propped himself against one of the nearby durasteel crates, he looked out in front of the ship and saw the cloning facility pop over the horizon. ''You do know you can carry more than one gun on that suit of yours? You can keep these pistols and that gun as well'' He playfully kicked at the box as [member="Jan Valdum"] continued.

''And I may be a monster, but I won't ask you to kill kids. That's low...even for me.'' Ke'Cholo grinned and handed Jan the bottle. He holstered the plasma rifle he still had out from the battle and looked over his gore stained person.

''I'm going to get a shower, cloning facility is up ahead. Should be another 15 minutes or so until we get there, the Kaminoans will take better care of you there.'' Ke'Cholo extended his hand and shook Jan's.
