SETTING INFORMATION
- Structure Name: The Opaline Palace
- Classification: Castle/Palace
- Location: Confracta
- Affiliation: The Second Triumvirate | The City of Ifradel | The Vacaryn Family
- Accessibility: Located in the perfect centre of the City of Ifradel, the Opaline Palace has accessibility in the form of public forums for tourists and visitors, but the majority of it is closed off for the use of the royal family, the Vacaryns, and the crowned High Ruler and their Consort.
- Description: The Opaline Palace is something that is noticeable even from the far-off skylines of Ifradel, distinct with a cathedral-like design and shape. Vaulted ceilings, grand furnishings, all the trappings of a palace that one would expect. The Nightgardens are a particularly recognizable feature as their bright neon glowing at night is often cited as one of the most memorable sights of Ifradel.
- The High Throne: Located in the main area of the palace, the High Throne of Ifradel is the jewel of the city and the castle itself. Accessible by the public during select areas but mainly reserved for private functions, the space operates as a ballroom, official meeting space and place of royal justice in Ifradel, as the High Prince/ss can dispatch judgement from the throne. A smaller seat is provided for their Consort.
- Nightgardens: A section of the palace that is a spectacle at night, this is a greenhouse filled with bioluminescent plants that will illuminate when the sun goes down. It is often visible for miles due to the concentration of light in the small glassed area, like a lighthouse to the rest of the city. The Nightgardens are something worth seeing, even from the outside.
- Private Hanger: Partially subterranean, this private and secret hanger is dedicated exclusively for palace services like transporting members of the High Family or their entourage.
- Garrison: The palace is garrisoned by both Triumvirate and IAANS soldiers who are dedicated solely to protecting the High Family and the governance that occurs behind these walls.
SECURITY
The Opaline Palace has Maximum security. It is home to the leaders of Ifradel and a head of the Triumvirate, and is therefore seen as the utmost importance in terms of protection offered by both the local forces and the Triumvirate's military.
- Triumvirate Dispatch: A private platoon of Triumvirate soldiers are present on the grounds of the Opaline Palace to serve as bodyguards to the High Throne. Elite and discreet, they get the job done and are equivalent in strength to Deathtroopers.
- IAANS Dispatch: Ifradel's own military also provides protection to the government facility, with a barracks they share with the Triumvirate located on sight. They mainly work to protect the High Family from threads inside Ifradel, whilst the Triumvirate's dispatch focuses more on international and galactic threats. They are equivalent in strength to Stormtroopers.
For millennia this place was known as the Royal Palace of Ifradel, changing hands between five noble families when each concurrent heir took the throne. It was constructed alongside the city, estimated to be around 9264 BBY. Through maintenance and care alone the palace has survived as a gorgeous structure and testament to Ifradeli ingenuity and creativity. In 3701 BBY, the current Queen of Ifradel, a Vacaryn, would stage a coup with House Valeport of the Cerevessian Republic and overthrow the round robin rule that the Palace of Ifradel had helped to establish. Creating the position of High Prince/Princess and renaming the palace to the Opaline Palace to further divorce from the history of Ifradel, it has remained this way from then all the way to now.
It was briefly abandoned during the Gulag Plague as the royal residences went underground with the rest of Ifradeli society to avoid the worst of the sickness, and required extensive aesthetic and technical repairs once society reformed following the Darkness. With the assistance of the Second Triumvirate, however, the Opaline Palace was restored to it's historical glory and remains a valued cultural icon of the City of Ifradel and it's people.
