Private The Past and the Future

Xian Xiao Xian Xiao

The Herglic sat in the library of Silver Rest, looking over a few documents of the Yhuzang Vong War. He was expecting to meet a Padawan today, but wanted to get some potentially useful research in. The Vong and the Bryn were similar enough that he hoped to find something, anything. Either way though, he was ready to have a discussion with Padawan Xiao when they arrived. The large Master quickly checked his lightclub, looking around before pulling up some recent battle reports. There had to be something....

Having attended a dinner that was a meet and greet between Jedi of different ranks, Xian had found herself quite interested in learning history. This was an area where she lacked knowledge and had reached out to one of the Masters she had met that night. It hadn't really taken her very long to do it either and he had happily agreed to meet with her.

Inviting her into the library archives, this was probably the first time the teen had ever set foot in one. Barely looking where she was going, she gawped at the sights around her. Eventually, her mind returned to the purpose of her visit and she found where she needed to go.

Walking in a little bit shy, she bowed to Or'Fol.

"Greetings again, Master Moric. What are we studying?"

Or'Fol looked up, smiling before closing the file. He'd met Xian at the dinner that was held recently to introduce some of the padawans to the masters that were in the Silver Jedi Order. The padawan had asked about exactly what he was looking at. The Herglic master just nodded before speaking up. "Good to see you again, Padawan Xiao. I was studying the Yhuzang Vong War. Hoping it will help us now." He then looked at Xian again, pulling up an entire collection of different eras of galactic history. He smiled a little, looking over as he tapped a few.

"So you said you wanted to learn more about history? Quite a broad thing to learn."

The teen looked at the single-file Or'Fol held and then at the many others nearby. Her eyes grew quite large as she listened to what he had to say. Realizing after a moment he had greeted her, she bowed to him and then joined him at the table. Letting out a sigh, it wasn't one of defeat or anything negative. Just a simple sigh.

"I don't really know anything about history, Master Or'Fol. Where does one begin?"

He mentioned he was looking up the Yhuzang Vong War.

"Help with what, Master?"

She had yet to be exposed to what it really was to be a Jedi. The kind of person to fight for the good and a protector of people. Her own exposure had been on Coruscant and she had seen both sides. Deciding then she didn't like the Sith, she was here now a few years later.

"What are the Yhuzang Vong?"

Or'Fol couldn't help but smile at the padawan as he slowly turned the screen so she could see the image of a Yuuzhan Vong. "I was hoping it would help with our current war against the Bryn, but now, it would seem to be an excellent place too start your history studies." He then looked at Xian, smiling a little.

"The Yuuzhan Vong are a technophobic species that comes from outside the Galaxy and its sisters. They are a tall and strong race, not quite like my own, but still larger than humans. The war that they started then cost the Galaxy millions of lives.... Yet, they surrendered in the end. We managed to stop them and get them to help remake multiple worlds that had been destroyed. Coruscant, and Mandalore being notable examples. They eventually settled on the world Zomana Sekot, somewhere in the Unknown Regions, wanting to improve their society."

An almost sound of awe came out of Xian when Or'Fol mentioned he thought they could use this information against the Bryn. Looking at the screen as he turned it, the image she saw caused her to shiver slightly.

"They are quite ugly."

Rubbing at the goosebumps on her arm, the teen listened to the Master speak. Her eyes lit up in wonder at the thought of there being more life than what she already knew about. That was actually quite limited but the girl didn't know that. Jerking her head back slightly in surprise, she looked at him like she didn't believe him.

"You mean Coruscant was destroyed and then rebuilt? How long did that take? Why did they do all the destroying and then surrender? How did we beat them?"

Their current location was known...making a note to herself to not visit there, she waited on his answers.

Or'Fol chuckled a little at the ugly comment, nodding some before answering her next question. Why did the Vong change their tune after the war? He nodded, pulling up more records.

"Well, they didn't quite destroy Coruscant. Instead, they terraformed it for their own kind. When their warlord was defeated by the Jedi, the warlord who took over surrender, and part of that surrender was making Coruscant habitable again. It was an interesting time to say the least." He flipped through some more data, showing many files of the Vong's biotech.

"They use biology like technology, to a degree that is almost unseen. Save for one race...."

"You mean they change it so it could grow plants? It doesn't have much of that now. I should know. I grew up there."

Listening to the answer, she looked around him as he showed up more of the files. Pointing at one, it was crooked and looked like it had a head at the end. Shivering again, she ran her hands over her arms to take away the goosebumps.

"I saw that in a museum when I broke...visited. I was pretty little at the time. They all sorts of different things! All of them gave off an ugly feeling."

Looking away from the screen until the image went away, she looked thoughtful.

"So we just need to defeat their warlord? Who is it? I can burn him or blow him away!"

Bravado filled the Padawan and she raised a hand to show a small flame on it.

Or'Fol nodded to the Padawan.

"Yes. Now it would be hard to tell. Coruscant has become a city world once again, but that is the history of it." He then looked at Xian, nodding a little. Ugly feeling was one way to put it, but he had an idea to prove a point.

"Perhaps, but that is a very relative thing. If you ever saw a Herglic ship, you would probably say they were massive. To many the Starhopper is an unsightly vessel as well, but others don't thing so. Lervon fighters are all a variant of Ugly, yet they don't seem to mind, and ever prefer them. Appearances are relative, and it is something important to remember." He then smiled and chuckled at the teen's enthusiasm, patting her shoulder and speaking calmly.

"Easy, young one. While your willingness is admirable, I'm not entirely sure that would work on the Bryn. We still know little about their culture."

Xian Xiao Xian Xiao

The teen had so much history to learn. Much more than her mind could ever comprehend.

"How far does history go back? What is the oldest culture that is known about? I know we're studying the Bryn right now...so how old are they? I mean as a people. They are a people, right? Not just some sort of mindless mass of beings that only want to kill?"

Coloring up slightly, Xian realized she was babbling a little but everything she had said was a question, pretty much. When the Master could get a word in between hers, she listened and nodded a bit.

"I didn't mean anything bad by calling them ugly. But they are! If I met one I would probably run the other way screaming out of fear. I wouldn't try to kill them. What's a Lervon?"

Taking his words as a suggestion to calm down, the Padawan lowered her hand and extinguished the flame she had produced.

"Yes, Master. What will work on them?"

Or'Fol Moric Or'Fol Moric

Or’Fol chuckled a little before speaking up.

“History goes back as far as it’s been recorded. The earliest records date back millions of years, though most of my studies are from the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War eras. As for the Bryn... we have very little information on them until recently, so I couldn’t tell you. They are a people though.” He then smile a bit at Xian’s description of what she’d do if she ever met a Bryn, and would give a grin when she asked what a Lervon was. It wasn’t often he met someone so willing to ask questions. It was honestly a nice change of pace.

“Lervon are an interesting silicon-based species. They look like living sand, and can use that to change their shape at will.” He would then take a quick breath, sighing at the last question. That was something he didn’t really have an answer for, but he also didn’t want to leave the Padawan without any hope. So he’d speak with a more serious tone, looking at the data again.

“In all honesty, no one knows yet. But we will find a way.”

For once the Padawan was entirely silent, the only noise she made was breathing. Listening quietly as Or'Fol answered her many questions, she sucked in all of them as a sponge would water. When he mentioned the Lervon again, her eyes lit up and she almost jumped up and down a little. Going from her tiptoes to the heel of her foot a few times, she waited until he finished.

"I met one before! On a beach. She was nice. Haven't seen her again."

Chewing a little on the inside of her cheek, she looked sober at the thought of not actually knowing how to defeat the Bryn. This concerned the young teen a bit and the Master might even sense that.

"Can we capture one and try to find what will kill it?"

It might be a poor action to do but it was what Xian thought of first.
