The Path To Unity

Rakieh Atur

The Watchman's Apprentice
Aboard a Consular-Class Cruiser, The Avalon, Smuggler Vessel
Traveling : Hydian Way, Just Passing the Tyus Cluster
Destination: Coruscant

Via a small Holocommunicator:

"It has recently come to my attention that I have more family that I realized. For as long as I could remember, all that I knew was my family had been restricted to the strictly nuclear aspect: an occurrence that we have the Gulag Plague to thank."

A deep sigh escaped Rakieh, one noticeable in movement and audio in the hologram.

"Thankfully, the Plague hadn't taken everything away from this family yet. Recent events have lead me to understand that three other families by the name of Atur exist, somewhere, out in the reaches of the galaxy. I would like to see this family whole again. In due time, with some guidance from the Force, we shall all meet on Coruscant, and hopefully, through that event of unity, we can rewrite the doctrines of our family and become one with the Force again, as we will become one as a family again.

"I look forward to meeting you all. May the Force be with you."

Yerral shut off the holocommunicator. He had played back the message so many times at this point that his head was beginning to spin in confusion and agitation, and now those feelings were warping into something else he could not recognise. As far as he was concerned, this whole trip was a pointless waste of time; he could assume that Kerrigan was thinking the same thing. Truly, it was his father, their father, that was the most concerned and found himself ecstatic with the knowledge that other members of his family were still around. Not that it made much sense. His father knew that he had cousins somewhere, he just didn't know where.

Alas, it was his father's wishes that pushed him and Kerrigan to go following the message of an unknown brother to center of the galaxy. Had it been for any other reason, Yerral might have found the trip enjoyable, but... there was some sense of melancholy associated with this trip, maybe even some sense of sardonic consequence to all of this. A curse perhaps. Maybe Yerral was sent to meet this family of his as a payment for his crimes —his stealing, his smuggling. Maybe his price was a new life. No matter. It was his father's wish, and he would carry it out with second thought, even if the thoughts to follow were painful, confusing and agitating.

He turned to look at Kerrigan, who sat next to him, her arms crossed and the expression on her face more sour than ever. Not a good look for her.

"Kerrigan."

Calling to her felt weird at the moment. Maybe it was just the situation, or the silence on the ship.

"What're you thinking?"
