The Pharaoh, the Warrior and the Goddess

KmHGPqxl.jpg

“Baraz, what can you tell me about the Anubians?” Briga asked from her new office in the Temple of Ax’no on her home planet of Iktotch. In her quest to widen the reach of her religion past the Narvath sector, Briga had done some cursory research on which other species had a pantheon of gods and goddesses beyond just the ubiquitous and mysterious, Maker.

“A droid has a “ Maker,” she’d complained earlier to Baraz, her Iktotchi assistant. “We have the omniscient wisdom and creativity of the goddesss, Ax’no.”

“The Anubians reside on Ankhypt. Their gods… not sure if they have goddesses, but yes, their gods have allowed magic and sorcery to flourish within their ranks. Much like Ax’no, My Priestess.”

“Is the race welcoming to outsiders?”

“I am negotiating with their ambassador for a visit soon.”

“Very good. If they accept prepare the Spectre for the journey. I want to hear no more about them until I arrive as I would like the Anubians themselves to explain their culture. I’d rather not rely on some holonet study full of secondhand accounts and missing facts,” she said dismissively.

After a few days of deliberation, Priestess Tiin finally wrangled a meeting with the intriguing canine species, specifically a warrior named [member="Se-khem-ka"], The Desert Shadow. The warrior would then take Briga to meet the ruler of Ankhypt, [member="Ankharbis the Great"]. Much like the Caprine mystic was to her species, the powerful Anubian was venerated by his people as a God-King. Although his lineage was firmly implanted in a line of Pharaohs, where Briga merely assumed her position through the divination of Council Elders.

After landing in The Spectre, her Scarab-Class Corvette, Briga waited for Se-khem-ka and his entourage. She’d brought along two armored Balae warriors and one of her handmaidens, a blonde Asti Caprine named Livna. Shielding her eyes from the blinding sun, she could feel the desert wind of Ankhypt drying her fur-lined epidermis and hoped that the Anubians weren’t superstitious about the liberal use of air conditioning.

Meanwhile, on Ankhypt, preparations were being made for the arrival of the foreign ambassador. The halls of the royal palace were redressed with beautifully sown banners, and the Anubian Royal Guard were dressed in their most ornate armor, lined with golden trimmings and jewels. A display of wealth and magnificence for their honoured guest when she arrived. Ankharbis relaxed quietly within his private study, signing the usual daily amount of official documents and all that, things expected of him as ruler of Ankhypt.

His royal vizier, an elderly Cathar man garbed in modest robings stepped forth, bowing his head politely before addressing the Pharaoh. ''You asked for me, my liege?'', the wizened old gentleman said politely. Ankharbis nodded. ''Indeed, I see you've done a splendid job of making arrangements for our guest. Have you asked Count Morcus to double patrols during this special occasion? I'd rather be certain we avoid any incidents during the proceedings.'', he said inquisitively. The vizier nodded. ''Arrangements have been made, yes. One of his Star Destroyers will be positioned above Tairos to oversee security efforts. It would be highly unlikely anything would slip past them.'', he said with a modicum of assurance. ''Very good. I'll hold you to that. Ensure the preparations are completed by the time Miss Tiin arrives.....'', Ankharbis said with a smile, before the old vizier hobbled away with his walking stick.

As the group of off-worlders waited under the scorching sun, Briga glanced around her own entourage and then realized that someone was missing.

“Where is that slave girl for Ankharbis the Great?” she demanded. Since the Caprine did not have much wealth, nor exports being primarily a farming and gathering culture, the mystic knew she would need to give some other type of gift to the Anubian leader. The Iktotch cliffs had no precious minerals; the horned species crafted nothing of value or trade. So what better offering than an actual sentient being, someone of flesh and blood, fragile and awash in impermanence?

Livna dutifully retrieved the young nymphette from the ship where she was hiding in the refresher. Bringing her out in chains, her blonde handmaiden tugged on the slave’s bindings, enjoying being the one to do the commanding for once. “Out you go. We are off to see a Pharaoh.” The slave Caprine was an Asti – the hallmarks of which were smoother horns which pointed straight upwards. The brunette’s horns were vaguely buck-like, her body lithe and fit for whatever purpose the noble Anubian chose.

Satisfied that her gift was decorated, perfumed, bejeweled, and not wholly terrified about what was about to happen to her, Briga nodded to the Balae warriors to continue walking up the long path to the Pharoah’s dwelling where they’d meet Se-khem-ka.

[member="Ankharbis the Great"] [member="Se-khem-ka"]

Se-khem-ka would be polishing his armor, wanting to look presentable to Ankhypt's visitors. He was summoned to the Pharaoh to assist in welcoming their new guests. "Reshmun-ka, fetch me my helm, quickly!"

A few minutes later, a small Anubian boy speeds into Se-khem-ka's quarters, a gilded helmet tucked in his arms. "Here you are, sir. Your helmet, cleaned and polished." The boy smiled at the seasoned warrior, looking happy to be serving under him.

"Well done boy. Keep it up, and you'll be training under me in no time." He ruffled the boy's fur, motioning him out. Se-khem-ka donned his helmet, putting his blade in its sheath and walking out of the room to meet with the Pharaoh.

The walkway to the royal palace stretched out before the foreign Caprine delegation. Anubians favored regal and opulent architecture adorned with precious gems, gold and patterned fabrics. Briga noticed, not only the presence of the towering, dark canine humanoids, but also a large amount of Cathar on the planet. An imposing Star Destroyer caught her eye as it loomed above the palace like a slab of obsidian stone. The horned mystic nearly got a case of vertigo as she tried to absorb the dizzying sights of this strange and quite wondrous planet.

If by the grace of Ax’no, it wasn’t so blasted hot, she thought!

But the Priestess continued to make her way forward, despite the soaring temperatures. And because of the heat, Briga allowed herself to wear a gown with her arms bared - a rarity for the religious figure. She would rarely do this on Iktotch because as the reincarnation of the Caprine goddess Ax’no she was supposed to be chaste, virtuous, vestal.

Of course, the dark Priestess was anything but.

Her gown was a taupe colored sheath made of chiffon and silk with accents of gold that were vaguely reminiscent of the patterns around Ankhypt. It was not the most ornate or luxurious dress, but considering that the Caprine Acolyte spent more of her time in ecclesiastical robes and other thick coverings, this was as scandalous as she could wear in public.

Her heart picked up its pace, drumming out an anxious beat, as she grew closer to the palace. She wondered just how benevolent this Pharaoh was. Or would he be stern and hostile as the often warlords and monarchs were? Right about now, she was regretting the decision to not learn everything about the enigmatic species before coming to Ankhypt. However, Livna, her blonde handmaiden, had a look of sheer awe as if she wanted to run inside the royal abode and pick out her own room.

“Steady,” Briga said to her maiden as though reading her thoughts. “We are guests here. You don’t know that we will be welcomed or shunned."

They were nearly to the waypoint where the warrior Se-khem-ka would be meeting them.

Se-khem-ka looked on, searching for the new faces as he neared the palace. His ear twitched as he got closer to the palace gates. Someone spoke... and he never heard such a voice before. He sprinted toward the voice, finding a group of horned humanoids, one in bindings. 'They seem like an intriguing species... and they bring a gift as well.'

"Greetings, newcomers. I am Se-khem-ka. Welcome to Ankhypt." He flashed the group a smile before bowing courteously. "You are here to speak to the Pharaoh, yes? Please, follow me." He began walking up the steps, stopping to make sure the newcomers were following suit.

The towering warrior sprinted over to Briga’s procession and greeted her rather warmly for such an imposing creature. Up close the Anubians resembled a long, dark shadow but one in the visible air and not on the ground. Their powerful bodies rippled with muscles and starkly contrasted with their pearly white irises. But despite his giant stature and sharp teeth, the warrior bowed like a gracious courtier and welcomed the Caprine caravan. The horned mystic took the center stage, her maidens fluttering around her in carefully choreographed motions of supplication. Briga bowed her head and said, “Thank you, Se-khem-ka for meeting us on such short notice. I imagine your Pharaoh is very busy, but I promise you I will make this meeting worth his time.”

They marched up a long flight of stairs and into the palace which was a sumptuous spectacle unlike that which the blue-haired seer had ever seen. It seemed the Anubians had a vast supply of wealth and were not afraid to flaunt it. The more they moved into the cooler interior of the palace – thank, Ax’no – the more Briga became curious about Ankharbis the Great. She wasn’t one to feel insecurity or doubt, but Priestess Tiin was quite sure an alliance would be beneficial to both species and hoped she had enough to bargain with. The Caprine did not have an abundance of credits, but the Church of Ax'no did have a nice, entrenched colony on Iktotch, a neutral planet. Territory and manpower was what Briga had to offer. Not one for small talk, the Caprine mystic was quiet as they finally reached the Pharoah’s throne room, but her maidens were giggling and making enough noise – over the handsome physique of Se-khem-ka and his graceful stride - that with one sharp look, the Priestess silenced them.

Ankharbis reclined comfortably on his large, golden throne. His throne room was vast, and filled to the brim with scantily clad consorts sat on comfortable cushions sipping wine and giggling as they chatted away with one another. His royal guardsmen who stood at the entrance of the throne room were tall and muscular, their black furred forms garbed in golden chestplates and white linen kilts, with elegant belts equipped with a holster for their ornate double-bladed lightsaber hilts. They stood aside, beckoning Briga and Se-khem-ka to follow as they escorted the duo through the massive chamber.

The Pharaoh arose from his seat, arms extended wide. ''Ahh! My honoured guest. Welcome! Welcome to Ankhypt! I've been eagerly awaiting your arrival. It has been too long since our planet had foreign dignitaries.'', he said, strolling forth to meet the pair. ''You didn't tell me our visitor was so charming, Se-khem-ka. I could've dressed more appropriately...'', he said with a smile, leaning down to gently take her hand and kiss it like the suave gentleman he was. ''I am Ankharbis, Pharaoh of Ankhypt and leader of the Anubian people.....what has brought you to my halls this day, I wonder?''

[member="Se-khem-ka"]

Se-khem-ka chuckled in response to the Pharaoh's jest. He absolutely idolized him in every single possible way. "Apologies my liege. I would have told you in advance, but I thought you'd be ready!"

He flashed a smile to the Pharaoh before letting Ankharbis's guest speak. He simply straightened his posture and stood in attention, his hands behind his back as the smile gently faded away.

Finally they crossed the threshold into the throne room. Ankharbis the Great was exactly Pharaoh-King that Briga had pictured - resplendent in his royal headdress and kilt made from the finest, softest fabrics. There was so much wealth in the expansive chamber that it nearly took her breath away – not to mention the potent Force signatures from both the Pharaoh and the Warrior.

And oh what lovely ladies were draped around the King! Female Anubian and Cathar women of all shapes and sizes – mostly curvaceous – decorated the throne, fanning each other and the Pharaoh with enormous, peacock feathered fans.

And again, how generous the young monarch seemed, his arms outstretched for Briga. But of course when you as prosperous as the ruler of the Anubians, why hide in the shadows with a strict grimace on your face? The Priestess liked him immediately as her own species enjoyed revelry and hedonism, which appeared to be, though more restrained than her horned counterparts, in abundance.

“Why thank you, Pharaoh,” Briga said, letting her hand go limp in his and giving him a subtle bow of her own. Livna appeared flabbergasted for a moment as her mistress rarely bowed for anyone… certainly not dignitaries as she had oft put herself above even monarchs. There were Queens, and then there were Goddesses after all. Mortal vs. Divine.

The Caprine mystic glanced at Se-khem-ka and then back at Ankharbis. “Before we get down to business, I have a gift for you, My King.” Livna pulled along the brunette Caprine slave until she was directly in front of the Pharaoh. She then kneeled as she was taught to do and waited. “You can add her to your… harem?” Briga asked, an amused smile lighting up her features. “Or use her as a servant. Either way, she’s yours to keep. Her name is Masa, and she’s an Asti Caprine which means her horns, which branch, rise relatively straight into the air.” The Priestess ran one of her clawed hands over her horns. “My guards and myself, we are Balae Caprine with horns like a ram.”

She titled her head, her amber eyes searching his white canine ones. “Do you like her?”

Ankharbis eyed the Caprian girl he'd been so generously gifted up and down, smiling as he reached down to caress her cheek. ''She's quite a fetching one, yes! She shall be garbed as one my consorts and lavished with the finest things. Se-khem-ka, take her to Mistress Nafuset and introduce her.'', he said, before speaking to the Asti Caprine. ''You will enjoy living here amongst us! I treat all of my consorts like goddesses.'', he said with a smile, planting a kiss upon her forehead before nodding to Se-khem-ka.

''It is customary on Ankhypt to give a gift in return for one given.'', he said with a smile, beckoning one of his consorts over. She was a beautiful Anubian woman with white fur, garbed in a revealing purple dress and adorned with exquisite Anubian jewellery, a testament of their craftsmanship. ''This is Nakhari, one of my consorts. She has served me faithfully, and now, she shall serve you.'', he said, the consort curtsying politely. ''Consider our gift exchange the start of a beautiful partnership! I look forward to building ties with the Caprine. At any rate, come, sit with me.'', he said, beckoning her to follow him to the Throne, where a comfortable chair had been placed in front of it so she could sit down.

The Pharaoah seemed to enjoy his gift, which pleased Priestess Tiin. She barely knew the King, his courtiers, and even his species that well. One wrong move could have her thrown out of the palace or even trapped on Ankhypt – such was her vulnerability right now. Masa, the Asti Caprine that would remain with the Pharaoh appeared quite surprised. She’d heard stories from Livna on the treatment of Briga’s handmaidens and slaves by her former Sith Lord Master, so she was apprehensive at first to be handed over to this strange race of canine demi-gods. However to be lavished with the finest things? Why it almost made Livna follow the girl along, until the Priestess held onto her elbow with a vice grip.

You aren’t going anywhere, she spoke telepathically to Livna. How dare you even think about abandoning me for these wealthy Anubians?

But ultimately, Briga ignored her reservations, and with wide eyes, gazed at the consort that she was gifted in return. “My Pharaoh,” she said breathlessly, longing to stroke the female Anubian’s white fur but keeping her clawed hands to herself. “I can’t remember a gentlebeing more generous than you. I am flattered and honored.” Not all of her flattery was Briga’s gift of a silver tongue. Despite being a religious figure and wielding power, on Iktotch, alms to the goddess included wildflowers and pottery. Not fur-lined Anubian’s named Nakhari!

“And so polite,” Briga said. “In fact she seems to have exquisite manners and may be able to teach my Livna a thing or two. I fear, my Pharaoh, that the Caprine species are very misbehaved at times.” This was said with an impish sparkle in her yellow eyes.

The Priestess followed Ankharbis to the throne and sat across from him. There was still something imposing about the dark, towering beast, such that her hands had a faint tremor. But she then placed them carefully folded in her lap and said, “A beautiful partnership indeed. As beautiful as your pantheon of gods and goddesses. I am a Priestess for the Temple of Ax’no,” Briga said. “Will you honor me with tales of your deities? I know you are busy, but I do think our cultures have a spiritual link. All long-lasting partnerships could use a strong foundation such as a common theological bond.”

Ankharbis smiled. ''Sadly I've little time to pay homage to the gods these days. My duties of leadership tend to keep me occupied. You tend to have to deal with a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy as ruler of such a large planet. Though I'll be happy to introduce you to our high priests soon enough. I hear they're quite eager to learn about the theologies of other worlds.'', he said with a nod. Another one of Ankharbis's consorts stepped forth, carrying two goblets of wine upon a tray, offering said drinks to the Pharaoh and his guest. Ankharbis took a hold of one of the goblets, sipping it before sighing contently.

''I'll admit it, Ankhypt has been sealed off for too long. We spent hundreds of years maintaining an isolationist stance to avoid falling pray to the Gulag Plague......and the recent ''disturbance'' in the force has left a lasting mark upon my people. The gods have been granting more and more Anubians the gift of their power ever since they made their enlightening presence more known to us. A great many months ago, the gods themselves emerged from the heavens and blessed us with a greater connection to the Force before disappearing once more.....I knew upon that day that our people had to expand beyond Ankhypt, and join the greater galaxy at large.'', Ankharbis said, arising from his throne and strolling over to the balcony of his palace, looking upwards. ''As you can see with the Star Destroyer protecting the skies above the capital, we've already made political arrangements. A nobleman from Serenno and a fellow practitioner of the force by the name of Count Morcus came to us around a month ago. A fine fellow, very wise for a human. We conversed a great deal about the galaxy at large, and I have learned many things.'', he said, leaning on the edge of the balcony as he gazed down at the bustling desert city below.

Briga watched the Pharaoh carefully, paying mind to his words, his courtier’s reactions, and above all his body language. When he complained about how little time he had to pay attention to his planet’s religion, he remained a picture of grace and stoic regality. Wine was brought around by yet another consort – it seemed that Ankhypt had an endless supply of them for the King – and the Caprine took the glass gingerly, sipping only the smallest of amounts. The Caprine enjoyed her spirits, but in the company of the captivating Pharaoh, she didn’t want to be in her cups too soon. But so far, so good. Ankharbis the Great was not the intimidating canine ruler she anticipated him to be – he was well mannered, charming and well… a wholly unexpected breathe of fresh air.

“My Pharoah,” she said. “I would enjoy meeting your Priests, of course, at their leisure. And if you need someone to help with managing the theocracy of Ankhypt, well I can certainly help you on some level.”

While she didn’t elaborate, Briga rose with Ankharbis and strolled beside him as he walked to the majestic balcony, listening intently. Their gods had much in common with the Caprine goddess, Ax’no, primarily as a vessel for power and magic. She looked back at the court, knowing others would follow, but hoping she would have some time alone with the charismatic monarch. Of course, the blue-haired Acolyte was an outsider so unless the Pharaoh demanded it, she would be carefully monitored for signs of maliciousness.

The horned mystic leaned her back against the balcony, draping her arm along the side, her claws clicking on the stone. She gazed up at the Star Destroyer in the sky, it’s triangular shape mirroring the architecture below along the plains of Ankharbis’s planet.

“I hate to ruin such a lovely view of the stars with talk of defense, but do you feel that the Anubians are under threat by any of your neighbors?”

Ankharbis nodded his head. ''The First Order was one of our initial concerns, though with the assistance of the Count and his political ties, we've largely been left to our own devices. He asked for little in return for his protection, save a spot to garrison his private army and fleet. Their presence has been a boon, to be sure. The streets are orderly, crime is low and the people are quite content. With his assistance, we might be able to arrange a far more reasonable agreement with the First Order.....'', he said with a hint of assurance in his voice.

"Well done, Pharaoh," said Briga impressed with the monarch's diplomatic ability. He had successfully negotiated a treaty with his neighbors that would assure prosperity to Ankhypt for years to come. "My home world of Iktotch is neutral, but that doesn't mean we are immune from threats. Sadly my species really have no defense... but we do have a lot of land and resources at our disposal." The blue-haired Caprine inched closer to Ankharbis the Great, attempting to close the gap between them with one eye still on any curious courtiers who watched them intently.

"I'm sure we can find some type of trade or alliance that will be beneficial to both of us."

A shooting star caught her eye from the balcony, and the Acolyte's yellow eyes followed it as it trailed off like a dying ember.

"But all of these formalities are so tiring, especially when there is such a long night ahead of us. There will be plenty of time for business later." She hoped she wasn't being too presumptuous or impudent, but the canine Pharoah was surely accommodating to social graces.

"Do you have a Queen, My Pharoah?" she boldy asked. "Are you betrothed to a highborne lady Anubian?"

The Pharaoh nodded his head. ''Then you share similar circumstances. If all goes well with the First Order, I'm sure the Count can provide another fleet to protect Iktotch from foreign threats.'', he said, gazing down at the street below as he watched a patrol of Anubian Warriors and the Count's Stormtroopers pass by the palace, keeping the streets peaceful and orderly with their presence. Ankharbis then raised an eyebrow, smiling. ''Alas, I do not. Why do you think I keep so many consorts? I've....not really considered the option.'', he said with a nervous chuckle, rubbing the back of his head. ''Why do you ask, might I wonder? Am I right to assume you had....other reasons for visiting?'', he said, grinning at her.

Briga’s attempt to divert the conversation from business to the Pharaoh’s social milieu was fairly successful, although she was grateful to hear that Ankharbis was open to helping defend her planet as well.

“And in return, I can provide the Anubians land on Iktotch... even a colony can be established. Our climate is different, but not impossible to get used to.” The sight of the dark-skinned canines juxtaposed against the gleaming white Stormtroopers was a strange sight indeed, but spoke to the heavy defense that Ankypt had – all due to the clever galaxy negotiations by the Pharaoh.

Briga was quite short in comparison to Ankharbis. She had to crane her neck to gaze into his white irises. “How do you keep track of all of your lovely ladies?” the Priestess teased. While another species might be jealous of the courtesans, she was not. The Caprine were a highly social and gregarious species, and Briga herself enjoyed nighttime in her bed chamber with all of her handmaidens. Communal affection was not uncommon on Iktotch.

“I came to establish diplomatic ties between our two species, but it seems I’ve found an impossibly charming monarch instead,” she said, her eyes darting to the throne room for a moment and then back at Ankharbis. Taking a chance, she lightly touched his chest with her clawed hand, not certain at all what the courting rituals were like with Anubians, but hoping he responded to her soft caress on his muscular torso.

Ankharbis smiled warmly at Briga, his muscular arm reaching down to caress her cheek gently. He certainly seemed quite welcoming of her advances, moving to the corner of the balcony out of view of his advisors and consorts. ''And it seems I've encountered a VERY lovely diplomat......I think such an alliance would be an excellent boon for both of our peoples. We can discuss the details later.....I'd rather learn more about you and your people in the meanwhile.'', he said in a charming, almost seductive tone of voice.

[member="Se-khem-ka"]

Ankharbis must have enjoyed Briga’s touch because he reached down and gently stroked the side of her cheek. Like her, he had long, black claws. Furthermore, he would find that she had very light covering of fur on her skin, but it felt more like silk than anything coarse or bristly. If the Pharaoh also had fur it was just as thin of a covering as the Caprine had.

Briga’s stomach fluttered with desire when the tall canine monarch moved the two of them to a more private area of the balcony. It was so far from the throne room that she could barely hear the giggling consorts and the clinking of wine goblets. All the horned mystic could hear was the rush of desert wind as it swirled gently around the two of them.

The Priestess had always struggled with her composure at these moments. While intending to appear chaste to the public, Briga had a robust libido herself and longing was something which plagued her to the point of putting herself in harm’s way. But she was protected her under the imposing shadow of the Pharaoh and away from the prying eyes of the Iktotchi.

As she spoke next, she lay her hand on his forearm – yet another part of Akharbis’s body rippling with finely honed muscles - and rested it lightly there. “I am the Head Priestess of the Church of Ax’no. Ax’no is our main goddess, and while there are some lesser deities in our pantheon, she is the most important.” This next part of her background occasionally elicited ridicule, especially from Iktotch off-worlders, so she tread carefully.

“In my youth, I was chosen by the Church of Ax’no Elders as the reincarnation of the goddess herself. They had a powerful group vision that I would someday… evolve into her and she would herald the Caprine species into a new era of power and glory. My people have accepted this… but not all of Iktotch has.” Yet, she hoped that, given the Pharaoh’s experience in growing up as the next in line for God-King, he would understand and accept the far-fetched theory. The Force only knew, stranger things had happened in the galaxy.
