- City Name: The Redoubt, the Labyrinth
- Classification: Underground Shelter| City| Clandestine Military Installation
- Location: The Redoubt is a sprawling network of tunnels built spanning the whole of the Korunnal Highlands- a continent, and the only habitable area of the planet, sitting high enough enough above the toxic cloudsea to support life- and to some extent, the lowlands. The Redoubt itself- the shelter- is approximately 600 meters underground.
- Affiliation: Al' Har Federation.
- Population: The Redoubt is capable of supporting the whole of the Korunnai in the case of a planetary-wide emergency.
- Demographics: The goal of the Redoubt would be to preserve Korunnai life; the settlers would receive secondary treatment.
- Wealth: High: While the tunnel network existed- primarily to attacking Confederates and storing munitions and arms- it took the entirety of the Federation to map out the network and establish the Redoubt.
- Stability: [ High] Construction of the Redoubt was one of the first priorities of the new government, and was handled clandestinely.
- Freedom & Oppression: Should the Redoubt ever come into use, survival and order would take precedence over personal freedoms.
- Description: Entrance to the Redoubt is via a multitude of tunnel entrances; the entrances are well hidden, either disguised in the jungle ground, or within homes and buildings. From there, one must know how to navigate to the Redoubt, or could be lost in the tunnels forever. The tunnels and the Redoubt are reinforced with ultrachrome, the only metal not subject to the planet's various metal-eating and silicate-eating fungi. There are gardens within the Redoubt, and natural springs, in addition to conserved foodstuff; the populace could be self-sufficient, provided the essentials remain uncorrupted.
[High] The tunnels are complex to navigate, and are not well-lit. Blast doors can seal off the Redoubt. The Redoubt itself is 600 meters underground, making it extremely difficult to penetrate via orbital bombardment.
POINTS OF INTEREST
- The Centre: A series of shelters situated within the center of the Redoubt. In the event of an emergency, civilians would evacuate here. This is also where Federation officials monitor the tunnels remotely.
- The Cradle: Series of gardens within the Redoubt, to support the population.
- Base Vastor: Based beneath the Centre, this is the headquarters of the Akk Wolves.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Redoubt was constructed to hide the whole of the Korunnai population, shortly after the founding of Haruun Kal. Despite having triumphed over the Confederacy, there was always the concern of another galactic power attempting to invade Haruun Kal. The Redoubt was created in response- a place to protect the citizens, and a massive tunnel network through which warriors could conduct hit-and-run attacks on any invading force, before withdrawing back into the tunnels.
The Redoubt also where the Akk Wolves are quartered- the Federation's elite fighting unit. The purpose of placing the Wolves in the Redoubt are two-fold: to allow maximal operational freedom, and if necessary, to provide time for the citizenry to escape, should the Redoubt be breached.
