Captain Ash
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
There are few spacers that Aeshi considers her equal and even fewer she considers her better. Of the ones that do, most of their surnames are Merill or Starchaser. And that knowledge extends to ships as well as flying. More importantly, though, she does things with her ship that no sane ship manufacturer certifies their ships for. She makes blind hyperspace jumps based on feeling, she travels to uncharted sections of the galaxy, she runs blockades, she fights capital ships at point-blank range. As such, she needs a ship made specifically for her and what she needs.
It began with the Stardream shortly after being busted out of a prison utilized by the Sith sect that built the Omega superweapon. Unfortunately, she sacrificed that ship in an attempt to destroy a First Order interdiction station when they attacked the trade lane in sector L-49.
Finding herself without a ship, she found herself without much of a purpose, and drifted around the galaxy, until her family talked her into running the regular routes until she was able to get her own ship again. It took her a long time to save up the credits and the time necessary to put into the endeavor, but she eventually settled on an old YV-929 Armed Freighter that she found in a scrapyard.
Over the course of a few years, she acquired parts, subsystems, and other amenities, many from her membership in the Spacer's Guild. Several, she built herself, starting with the HIMS.
The key to running blockades and avoiding pirates in the Rim, the HIMS has developed from a brute-force technology that developed by necessity into a standard feature in nearly all ships developed and fielded by major galactic powers. Not trusting their mass production, she built her own, just as she did in her initial ship and for the prototype fighters she helped design for the previous Galactic Alliance.
She purchased several systems from manufacturers, including the comms, sensors, smuggling compartment beneath her captain's chair, the solid fuel/ration converter, and the collection of starmaps from Baobab, which she had an earlier version of from her close association with the Underground and Jorus Merrill.
The linchpin of her ship, however, is the masking code modulator, which she can use to change the transponder code, registration, and identification of the Requiem, supported by a bevy of forged identification documents.
It is the navcomputer and hyperdrive, however, that she will rely on most frequently, however. The hyperdrive is an old model she salvaged from a junkyard on Tatooine. Incredibly fast, even for pre-Gulag era technology. The navcomputer is of the same model she used on her old ship, so it is a bit dated, but it is incredibly powerful and can allow her to adjust her route while in hyperspace to throw off tracking technology, vector estimates, or change where she wants to go while practicing Wayfinding.
The shield enhancer helps the ship take more fire without critical damage, while the tractor shroud protects against tractor beams and even missiles if she flies right, and the copycat pods can cause a distraction when need be, while the artificial life signs generator allowed her to suggest she carries passengers, while the shielded smuggling compartment ensures the most crucial information and cargo remains undiscovered, or at least harder to discover. Her .48 pistol will take of the problem if they are discovered.
All in all, it is a compact, tough freighter with lots of hidden surprises, high speed, but not a lot of cargo space. Perfect for transporting high-value cargo or slipping freedom fighters onto Imperial occupied worlds.

- Scrappy Little Ship: While designed originally to be a scrappy vessel capable of punching above its weight, Aeshi has improved this by adding a shield enhancer and others defenses and decoy systems to help evade security patrols, pirates, and imperial warships. Enhanced shields, decoys, and a tractor shroud provide a base for unorthodox defense tactics against most standard weapons, while it is well-armed for a freighter, including a light turbolaser that can give quite a shock to most unexpected corvette and frigate-class vessels.
- Where we're going, we don't need roads: Between advanced sensors, top of the line long-range communications, and a solid fuel-ration converted, the Requiem is well equipped to travel far from charted hyperplanes, while its navicomputer and incredibly complete starchart catalog can get them pretty much anywhere on half-forgotten, secret, and unknown routes, not counting her private collection of hyperlanes that she has charted and discovered herself.
- Oh no, that's not me: With a masking code modulator, Aeshi can change the identity of the ship to anything she would like, preventing early detection and identification, while a shielded smuggling compartment beneath where the captain's seat bolts to the deck hides any contraband.
- Damn the blockade, full speed ahead!: There is nothing that Aeshi detests more than a blockade. She finds it antithetical to all principles of a space-based society, the freedom of the stars, and free commerce. Plus, she's still bitter about the loss of her hands and first ship at the battle of L-49 against the First Order. So, she's added a HIMS and boosted the engines to get through just about any blockades that come her way.
- Smol Bean: At only 22 meters long, about the size of many ground-based transports, the Requiem is pretty limited in what it can do. While she can overload the cargo bays and weight to an extent, she won't be able to do very much in case of a mass evacuation or anything like that.
- Maintenance Intensive: She's a great mechanic with a great ship, but there are so many specialty parts that it isn't always possible to make repairs in the field.
