SETTING INFORMATION
- Structure Name: The Royal Institute of Science
- Classification: Science Facility
- Location: Cattamascar
- Affiliation: Mikilanna Mihaly (Director), Eternal Empire
- Accessibility: The facility is closed to the general public, and for the exception of those that work and live there, only by permission is outsiders allowed to enter. The facility sits on lone island, only accessible via space shuttles and transports.
- Description: The facility is massive, sprawling nearly across the entire island and covering six kilometers in length, four kilometers in width. The structure, isolated for scientific reasons, can be easily spotted from the sky; whilst at night it resembles a definable beacon of light. The facility houses several departments dedicated to the pursuit of science and scientific technological advances.
POINTS OF INTEREST
A. Department of Applied Sciences: This department focuses on using scientific knowledges to create technology and inventions.
B. Department of Formal Sciences: Though this umbrella of science covers logistics and mathematics and computers, the department only concerns itself with theoretical computer science. Through TCS, it focuses on mathematical aspects such as type theory, theory of computation, and computer sciences.
C. Department of Natural and Physical Sciences: The department dedicates it's resources to studying several aspects of science.
1. Physics: The study of matter and it's motion through energy, force, and spacetime. It can also be associated with basic astronomy.
2. Chemistry: The study of matter and the changes it undergoes such as chemical reactions. Also, it encompasses thermodynamics, quantum mechanics, and analytical chemistry (the analysis of materials to better understand their structure and chemical composition).
3. Geology: The study of rocks, minerals, and other planet based materials.
4. Oceanography: The study of not just oceans, but the oceanic ecosystems and the marine organisms that inhabit it.
5. Space Science (Astronomy): This field of science has changed, now focusing on space travel, space exploration, and even space archaeology.
D. Department of Life Science (Biology): This department covers a wide range of science.
1. Biochemistry: The study of chemical processes related to living organisms.
2. Microbiology: The natural study of microorganisms.
3. Botany: Study of plants including fungi and algae.
4. Zoology: The in-depth study of the galaxy's animal kingdoms and insects.
5. Ecology: The study of the interactions between organisms and their biophysical environment.
E. Hanger
F. Barracks
G. Apartments (Workers And Staff)
H. Marketplace
I. Mechanic Shops
J. Animal Pens
K. Oceanic Water Tanks
L. Prison Cells (For Nefarious Characters)
M. Labs
N. Waste Disposal Units
SECURITY
Maximum: The security level is this high due to the sever nature of what is stored within the facility and what is being created in the labs.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The facility was created for the sole purpose of scientific studies. It is here that many studies of science are pursued for various applications ranging from the betterment of The Eternal Empire (and by proxy, the galaxy) to destructive powers to bring The Eternal Empire's enemies to their needs. The facility employs thousands of citizens, from the high pecking order of a scientist to the low ranking marketplace clerk, under the rule of The Eternal Empire.
The entire facility took nearly three years to complete, staffed with some of the most highly intelligent, scientific minds and state-of-the-art technology. It is, in the mind of the scientists employed here, the most coveted institute to work at.
From a first glance, the entire facility could be mistaken for a military base due to the heavy security assigned not to only protect those employed there, but to keep what is brewing within those labs from escaping into the galaxy itself. Not everything being created or studied there is a threat to the lives of the galaxy, but The Eternal Empire took great measures to ensure the safety of the galaxy as much as possible. The facility created on a single island was not only chosen because of it's isolation on the planet, but for two reasons.
The first was the ocean surrounding the island itself. Deadly waves and boiling temperatures acted as a natural defense, keeping the Ssi-ruu from causing distractions, as well as the the annoying P'W'eck that shared the planet with the SSi-ruu and humans. Also, it disallowed any type of ground attack, allowing the facility to be defending best by it's air superiority.
The second reason was before the creation of the facility, a failsafe had been constructed into the crust of the island. Several high-end explosives sat dormant, ready to blow the facility to bits and pieces in the event of either A, it falling into the hands of an enemy or B, some potential catastrophic event that could cause the facility to spill it's secrets into the galaxy.
