Surge Lord
The Seasons of the Hive
Infect, Seed, Hive, Swarm and Surge. While infection varies a lot, and seed does somewhat, depending on the world, the others have a familiar chain of events.
Hive.
The Hive Mind, dedicates focus to a particular world, putting collective attention there. This is a conscious part of the collective will, not a singular entity, but a conscious effort to integrate enough of the collective will to a particular area.
Swarm.
As the swarm grows on a planet, it takes on a more passive, subconscious nature, with creatures following out their collective tasks free of focused directive. Often this is when building, nesting or the physical manifestation of the hive occurs.
Surge.
When critical mass has been reached, and integration with the flora and fauna mostly achieved, a more active surge begins, and the Surge takes over. Expansion being the primary goal, but also to assert collective will over a larger area. This is also when the next stage of infection begins to be sent elsewhere, though this can happen in the swarm or hive stage depending how well or badly they are going to look for new ground.
Then when ready, the surge clears the way for:
Infection and Seeding.
Infection and Seeding are done through small creatures, usually transferring one of a few different infection agents to a new biosphere or planet. This is usually consciously undertaken by the Hive Mind in a trial and error approach. The surge not only helps clear the way but also acts as a distraction for the real threat. New infections popping up elsewhere from tiny carriers.
