The Sentinel Protocol, The Tech Update, and News

By the time you're reading this, chances are this account name will be Qae Shena. Fear not. That's meant to be. Long story short, I am going to be focusing all my time and effort on other projects, but before I go I am going to leave you all two gifts: one is the tech overhaul, which has been completed pending approval by Ayden Cater, and a second is the entire strategy guide to ODF military forces that I based the tech overhaul around. One is not complete without the other. Feel free to repost it somewhere.

The Sentinel Protocol

The Sentinel Protocol (henceforth referred to as the Protocol) is the primary stratagem of the Omega Defence Forces. Knowing that it is impossible to effectively police every star system with a large-scale fleet, Omega has turned to a far more simple solution. The Protocol is as follows:

  • ODF naval forces are split up into Expedtionary Fleets and Sentinel Fleets. All vessels are assigned to one of these two subsets.
  • An Expeditionary Fleet is a large-scale assortment of warships including all types of naval vessels employed by the ODF. Each Expeditionary Fleet has one Jaeger-class Star Destroyer as its flagship, commanded by one Admiral. These are of no specific size or composition, provided it follows Omega Tactica guidelines.
  • A Sentinel Fleet is composed of one Excubitor-class cruiser and two Telum-class frigates. Each star system is assigned one Sentinel Fleet. The Commanding Officer of the Excubitor-class serves as the Fleet CO and may be of Commander rank and above.
  • There are two roaming Expeditionary Fleets that patrol throughout all of Omega space and one Expeditionary Fleet assigned specifically to the territory of each Exarch.
  • Should a star system come under attack by enemy forces, the local Sentinel Fleet is to engage. Should the Sentinel Fleet not be sufficient to repel the invaders, it will make all efforts to disengage and call upon the nearest Expeditionary Fleet to assist.
  • ODF surface forces are composed of planetary garrisons that are recruited from the local populace, supplanted by one battalion of Hoplite-class repulsortanks. Garrisons will be issued standard Omega weaponry and armour. Volunteers to the ODF that are not part of the local garrison will serve aboard an Expeditionary Fleet's forces.
  • Surface forces are assigned eight Peregrine-class gunships, eight Argevant-class dropships and eight Killik-class transports for surface-to-surface mass deployment.

ODF will not employ a large-scale fleet to defend a single world permanently at any time for any reason due to the inefficiency of cost.

Omega Tactica

  • The Jaeger-class Star Destroyer is only ever found alone in a fleet; it is of limited production and therefore serves at the back of a fleet, never at the forefront given its very limited anti-ship capability.
  • The Incus-class heavy cruiser is used in pairs; between two ships they carry three full wings of starfighters as standard carrier models.
  • The Malleus-class Star Destroyer operates in groups of two, generally to form fire support for Incus-class heavy cruisers or Jaeger-class Star Destroyers.
  • The Excubitor-class cruiser is designed to operate individually in general-purpose naval warfare, generally to pursue light capital ships. It is designed specifically with hit and fade in mind.
  • The Telum-class frigate operates in pairs to guard larger vessels from fighter attack. This is the smallest military class of vessel.

  • Inimica-class gunships are designed for space use; they are not designed for ground-based warfare in any way and will not engage surface targets except in extreme circumstances. Each Jaeger-class Star Destroyer is assigned one squadron of Inimicas.
  • Commanders are expected to understand the basic use of all standard starfighter classes and are reminded that an interceptor is created to intercept bombers on attack runs, not to attack starfighters - hence the name.

  • Any deployment of the Argevant-class dropship must be supported by Peregrine-class gunships, if available. Peregrine-class gunships will serve all fire support roles with the exception of destroying fortified locations, which falls to Avenger-class bombers.
  • Hoplite-class repulsortanks operate in squadrons of four and are designed to engage all targets in groups, generally focusing fire on any heavy-class ground unit.

And that's it. A comprehensive how-to-fleet as Omega standard, composed by yours truly, with the tech update in mind. If you want to learn the basics of fleeting, that piece of information right there is a good start.

As for the fates of my characters, as discussed with @Ayden Cater - Allaina is going on an expedition into the Unknown Regions, with Lady Velori in tow. They're taking the Invicta with them, meaning it will be unusable for the foreseeable future as I'm not entirely comfortable with someone else with their hands on my greatest masterpiece. Essentially this gives me the ability to return with Allaina at a later date - Velori isn't coming back.

Carth Mayweather is hereby promoted to Commander and given command of an Excubitor-class vessel when they are released. He has the choice of serving in an Expeditionary or Sentinel Fleet.

Once the entirety of the tech overhaul has been approved and posted, faction tech submissions will be opened up again. I'll leave letting you all know about that in Ayden's hands.

Any questions, feel free to PM me.

Good luck, guys. Enjoy.
