- Combat Function:
- Tactics: The Shades are capable of operating in the field from multiple fronts, but most commonly employ stealth-based and Force-based tactics. From insertion behind enemy lines unseen to reinforcing the bulwark of larger forces with Sorcery, the Shades can fulfill any role necessary short of full front-line combat. A favored tactic the Shades like to employ is the usage of feints and tactical retreats, often appearing before their enemies for brief seconds at a time before rushing away, luring them into a trap.
- Habits: The Shades, when seen, practice a number of religious ceremonies and customs before, during, and after their deployments, calling upon the blessings of their lord. Such practices include scarification, sacrifices of any and all hostages, ritualistic tattooing, armor and weapon customization, and frequent pilgrimages across the Devil's worlds.
- Goals: To loyally serve the Devil without compunction and ensure that his holdings and spread of power are absolute and unchallenged.
- Elite Units: Forced to undergo a series of intensive, nigh-fatal training scenarios, the Shades have developed themselves into elite combatants capable of taking on a wide range of enemies, from squads of veteran soldiers to similar black ops teams.
- Shrouded: Because of their Black Ops mastery and tendency to leave no survivors in most of their missions, the Shades exist under a blanket of conjecture and assumption rather than cold, hard fact. This inevitably results in most enemies lacking a cohesive, concrete plan to combat the assassins should they be targeted.
- Low Numbers: While highly skilled and masters of their art, the Shades are comprised of a limited number of members that are extremely difficult to replace. This ensures that should enough members be killed in the line of duty, it is possible that The Shades could be annihilated entirely.
- Zealotry: Ironically in spite of their mastery, the zealotry of the Shades is much more dangerous than it is helpful. Its members are quick to irrational actions should their views and beliefs be vehemently challenged, are wont to deliver long sermons in the name of their ruler, and follow a number of religious practices that most would view as extreme.
- No Ground Vehicles: As they are a pure infantry combat unit, members of the Shades have no specialized vehicles to their name, meaning they can struggle against foes where such things would have been beneficial.
Born out of the secretive malice of the Devil weeks prior to the onset of the Sith Warlord's crusade upon Malachor V, the Shades operate as Kascalion Giedfield's mysterious enforcers in the shadows. Operating with a near-perfect success rate, unparalleled skill in the field, and innate adaptability to several combat scenarios, the Shades made their usefulness quite apparent very early on in their existence. Much of this can also be attributed to their supposed origins involving dark sorcery, but this is purely conjectured as the Shades have little to no records on their ever having existed, to begin with. Regardless of the truth, what cannot be denied is their service to the Devil and their continued aid in his ever-evolving schemes for Galactic convergence under his dark light.
