- Often Appears in a Variety of Forms to best match Hel's desires and current state of mind. The most potent of forms are as follows:
- Appearance: Amorphous at best and completely imperceptible at worst in its natural state, the Shroud is an entity that both exists and does not exist. It simply is. Entirely reliant on Hel's continued life, the Shroud often takes a number of forms that are created in order to match Hel's current mindset and desires, as explained above. Often, these forms last only for the day in which it makes its presence known and/or breaks free from its continued conflict with the other aspects of Hel's mind.
- Name: The Shroud
- Loyalties: Itself
- To an extent, it is also loyal to Hel, truly believing that it is the best option for her success and survival. However, this loyalty only goes so far and the Shroud will psychically harm its host to get what it wants if denied long enough or openly opposed. Only the presence of Hel's other mental aspects will have it shrink back down into its cage.
- Wealth: As a mental image of the Force, the Shroud possesses no wealth beyond what Mrurh'en'lase herself owns.
- Notable Possessions: As a mental image of the Force, the Shroud has no notable possessions beyond what Mrurh'en'lase herself owns. In a twisted sense, however, it could be said that it possesses her mind as it is the driving force behind her more aggressive actions in combat and social outings.
- Skills:
- Control of Mrurh'en'lase Dark Side actions
- Control of Mrurh'en'lase's Dark Side powers
- Manipulation
- Psychological Torture
- Orator
- Personality: Depending on the form it has taken, the Shroud's overall personality is almost constantly changing in its consistent efforts to win over its host. In some forms, it is sadistic and violent, forcibly attempting to take over its host's body. In others, it is manipulative and conniving, using half-truths or even full-truths to bring Hel to the brink and take the plunge. Only in a few does it resort to calm discussions on the nature of the Dark Side, using Hel's repressed intelligence, reasoning, astute knowledge of religion, and inner romantic desires to engage in actual conversation. However, regardless of the face it uses, its intentions remain the same. It is - as nature dictated - driven by mortal desires for power and freedom.
- Weapon of Choice: Psychological Manipulation | The Dark Side
- Combat Function: Incapable of actually combating the physical enemies of its host on its own, the Shroud has to utilize its host to channel the powers of the Dark Side. In its combat with Hel's other mental aspects, however, it will "cast" a number of archaic and eldritch Dark Side powers, partly to push back its enemies and entice its host to desire such power in her life.
- Unlocker of Force: Essentially acting as the key to the Light Side's lock on Hel's power, the Shroud unlocks the full Force Potential Hel possesses at the cost of her sanity and reasoning. The Shroud, if allowed to be unleashed, would single-handedly change the fate of its host and lead her to as many victories as it would tragedies and gleefully slaughter thousands. Only the darkness within knows the true power the Hybrid can achieve with the proper guidance.
- Many Faces: The Shroud is capable of presenting itself in numerous forms to entice or push its host to the Dark Side and succumb to its power. Additionally, the stronger Hel becomes in the Force and the closer she draws to the Dark Side, the more refined and effective the Shroud’s forms become.
- The Light Side: The personification of Hel’s attachment to the Light Side also presents itself as the immortal foe of the amortal entity. Locking the Shroud into a nearly-endless state of combat to keep Hel on her path of righteousness for the Jedi, the Light Side of Hel is dauntless and everlasting in its intent.
- Hel’s Natural Resistance: Hel possesses an uncanny resistance to the Dark Side in its earliest stages, although its power is still strong enough to sink in its claws for future damage. This resistance was such that Hel was able to avoid completely falling to it when she was but a child and adolescent, merely using what she could to survive whenever her natural strength could not solve the situation.
- The Wise Jedi: Those closest to Hel in the Jedi are capable of keeping her in the guidance of the Light Side, holding the Shroud at bay until it recedes into its pit once again.
When Mrurh'en'lase was born, she had little chance in the world to live a peaceful life. Her childhood was wrought with tragedy and feelings of helplessness and isolation, her parents being exiles and miscreants among the Zeltron and Chiss, forced to spirit their child off into the distant worlds of Wild Space. A hybrid of emotional progression and taciturn traditionalism, Mrurh'en'lase faced hardships in forming lasting connections as a child. Most friendships would end with an emotional outburst due to the conflicting mindsets her parents represented, and those that lasted more than a few months would end quietly under the reasoning of "being weirded out." Indeed, it seemed that the young hybrid was destined for a lonely, solitary life.
But, in the darkness of those emotions and loneliness - that ruinous melancholia - there was a relationship that could not be broken. A hidden one, deeply seeded yet not having sprouted into a tree of miasma. One that would not be broken, at least until Mrurh'en'lase died in some manner.
You see, the young hybrid had been born Force Sensitive, which only added to the overall disaster that was her early life. Not only was she a mixed-blood, but she was a vile mutation in the eyes of her Chiss heritage, a creature that needed to be stamped out and eradicated. These were the fears of the Chiss, and these were the fears that her father tried and failed to hide under the pretenses of loving his child. But, the agony of siring a child that could never be accepted by her people, and one that he too felt the ingrained disgust towards, was too much to bear for the hybrid's father. In the dead of night, while the child slept under the moonlight shining through a crack in their hovel's ceiling, Mrurh'en'lase's father took his own life, leaving his child alone with her mother.
And so began the rise of the Shroud, the product of Mrurh'en'lase's mind attempting to find a reason for the Dark Side's existence in her soul. From the depths of her mind, the Shroud began to sprout gnarled roots and poisonous weeds, infecting the hybrid's developing brain as she struggled to live with one parent who had grown increasingly manic. Being half-Zeltron, the emotions that came from this poison and those she felt being produced by her mother were intense and brutal and it was not long before it broiled and bubbled to a frothing rage that saw the hybrid utilize her first application of the Force.
With a mighty shove of Telekinesis during an argument with her mother, Mrurh'en'lase sent her last parent flying out the window of their temporary home atop a rubbled skyscraper in a city of poverty and crime. Mrurh'en'lase watched her mother fall for nearly a minute, numb and vibrating with heaving anger, oblivious to the distant sounds of laughter coming from the stem of her brain. The Shroud had taken full root, and from that day, it would be a constant fight to resist its ever-growing influence.
Today, that influence has only worsened - even after her fortuitous induction into the New Jedi Order - as her mind wages its endless contest with itself to set Mrurh'en'lase on a solid, unchangeable path of good or evil. Only time will tell if the unorthodox Jedi can keep herself from falling further down the ladder of chaos and into the clutches of the Shroud.
