For almost a full year the young lieutenant had been listed as having taken an extended leave-of-absence, during which time he bravely risked his life by heading deep into Sith territory on his lonesome to locate and bring back the fallen Jedi Nida Perl , believing no-one else would. He was proven wrong when the youngest of the Perl sisters, Kyra Perl , showed up to join his crusade to rescue the fallen padawan. Despite their many differences in character and background, the pair learned to work together to accomplish their goal of saving his girlfriend and her sister respectively.
Once Nida was brought back to the Silver Jedi, a trial was held to determine the damage of her crimes against the Jedi as well as the innocent during her time with the Sith, and a fitting judgement was rendered that would once again see her and Thirdas parted. Disappointed and hurt knowing they still could not be together until she had served out her sentence elsewhere, Thirdas took solace in knowing at least she was safe and sound, and her departure had been made voluntarily. Rather than let her continued absence cripple him, he sought to put himself to good use by returning to active duty with the Antarian Rangers, resuming his rank of lieutenant.
Prior to his leave-of-absence, Thirdas had belonged to the now-disgraced and disbanded Dorn Company, whose violent and grissly actions had earned them being stricken from the records of the Antarian Rangers for their disservice, and so the young Heavenshield boldly requested that he be authorised to put together his own unit rather than having to go through reassignment to another company. Ranger Command approved of his request, granting him full authority to create a brand new combat unit with him as their leader. He surprised them with an already prepared list of personnel, and so the letters of reassignment went out to each name on the list. A week later a dozen men and women had answered the call of their new commanding officer.
These dozen were the finest marksmen the Rangers could boast, however their role also included expert knowledge in explosives, stealth and infiltration, guerilla warfare, and close-quarters proficiency. By the end of their first mission as a unit, their previously pristine combat attire had turned murky grey in color, and their cloaks used to camouflage them were all left frayed and tattered. This ghostly visage, coupled with the ferocity with which they fought, earned them the name "Storm-Crows", and they've since adopted the avian creature as their unit insignia.
Just as crows are considered a foreboding omen on his homeworld, the enemy will learn to fear the appearance of the Storm-Crows as an ominous sign indeed.
