"If this falls into the wrong hands, there is no telling what insidious perils we may face," Jedi Master Vodo Noct said.
He dared not touch the thing. Just feeling it from across the room was enough for him.
"The Council is aware of its danger. We are taking every precaution to secure it, safely, where it will be of no harm," Answered Jedi Master Quel-Jin Lorn.
Lorn squinted at his own words. This entire endeavor had made him feel like little more than an unwilling participant. But he was to uphold the voice of the Jedi Council on this matter. Begrudgingly, he admitted that their wisdom surpassed his, and it would be out of line for him to disobey the democratic will of the Council. He'd had his vote, and in the end, it would not be his choice that decided the fate of the glowing red holocron sitting on the table between him and Master Vodo Noct.
"You know as well as I do, Lorn," Noct leaned in closer, his voice growing ominous. The red glow of the holocron cast a crimson hue along the tendrils growing from his Mon Calamari chin. "It should be destroyed."
Quel-Jin sighed. "If it were my decision alone, I would be inclined to agree with you. But we must not go against the will of the Council. The most we can do now is ensure that is is properly contained while we study the rest of the information within it."
Lorn's gaze sank to become embroiled in the blood-red glow of the holocron. There was little confidence behind his words, he knew. But there was nothing he could do.
That was centuries ago.
The planet Tython had changed dramatically in the last few years of this age. The planet that was once the bastion of the Jedi now lay ensnared under the control of the mighty One Sith. The glowing structures of the Jedi were mired in ruin, charred remnants of what they once were. There was a darkness that now permeated Tython, looming over it like a great dark cloud. And somewhere amidst the unceremonious rubble that was once a Jedi structure, the tendrils of the Dark Side found the holocron, and the holocron began to respond to it.
It began to glow once again.
