The Sun Guard and their Subordinate Auxiliary Forces.

Mercenaries often find themselves divided by profits, which of them nets the greater cut and how long they’ve served; either from when they fought under another’s banner or how long they marched under their newfound outfit. In the Golden Company, the profits earned from every contract are split equally throughout the ranks - ensuring everyone gets their dues. If one desires to advance in position, they may do so regardless of gender; despite commonly held beliefs regarding Thyrsians. Through exceptional service and an unwillingness to cower from a fight, the Sun Guard makes sure that all who serve are equal beneath the light of the Sun.

The Sun Guard

Brief History:

Even before the coming of the four centuries of darkness, as the light of civilization was snuffed out, the Sun Guard were feared from one-side of the known galaxy to another. Their legacy, though humble in origin, came to rival the storied scions of Mandalore and even led the two disparate cultures towards an everlasting rivalry. It was through their pride and hubris that these flaxen mercenaries found themselves secretly subverted by the Sith Order; who perverted their religion towards a belief in some galactic saviour. Through this sudden devotion to the chosen one prophecy, the once-proud warriors of the Sun Guard were bastardized into serving their new overlords as their enforcers; believing that they’d be the heralds of a new age of peace and prosperity.

However, as their seemingly fanatical devotion was repaid with failure and treachery of the highest order. Many that wore the black, their organizational colour of choice, were slaughtered by a Dark Jedi assassin at the behest of their new master’s apprentice. Those that were survived were either absorbed into Palpatine’s Red Guard or returned home for the first time in years. This schism formed the foundations of what would eventually lead towards the creation of the Golden Company nearly several centuries later. Those that returned home sought to give birth to a new generation of Sun Guards; who would take to the stars after defending their world from the horrors of the Yuuzhan Vong.

In this day and age, the Sun Guard of the Golden Company are the inheritors of that ancient promise of rebirth. They’ve recognized the great burden that’s been placed before them, and have made great strides in recent years; instilling fear into the hearts of all that stand before their gilded might. While they no longer hold ties to the Sith, as that bond died when their Order murdered many of their ancestors, the Scions of Thyrsus still did business with them. In a galaxy where the myriad factions of the dark side reigned supreme, it would’ve been foolish to choose sides when there were credits to be made, and war-spoils to take.

Thus, the Sun Guards of the Golden Company sought out the employ the highest bidder but safeguard themselves from religious subversion. They were weak, once, but never again would they suffer as their ancestors did. They would not fall prey to the machinations of those that supposedly considered themselves superior. Through the guidance of the Sun, and their devotion to the infallible march of technological progress; the Scions of Thyrsus would reclaim what they’ve been denied and surpass their ancestors legacy.

What makes a Sun Guard?
  • Proficiency with Melee Weapons [Exotic and Standard.]
  • Proficiency with Ranged Weapons [Exotic and Standard.]
  • Proficiency with Powered Armour [Exotic and Standard.]
  • Special Forces Training and Tactics [Urban Warfare, Guerilla Warfare, Etc.]
  • Adoption of Thyrsian Martial Arts [Non-Force Battle Precognition.]
  • Adoption of Thyrsian Culture and Possible Religious Conversion.
  • A Thirst for Glory, Adventure, and Wealth.
  • Species-Specific Traits.
The Sun Guard are first, and foremost mercenaries. They pride themselves on being the best of the best, and it’s reflected in the payment they demand whenever hired to complete a task; no matter how impossible it may seem. While they are soldiers of fortune, who were rarely seen in such numbers, and so organized, the Scions of Thyrsus generally eschew such stereotypes to form an effective fighting force. They may come from different backgrounds or even different worlds, but it is through a rigourous training program that anyone strong enough to survive the trials laid before them is reforged into one of the Gilded Elite. Through this blending of cultures, technology, and martial customs that the Sun Guard become ever-stronger and capable of countering whatever threats they may face.

How does One become a Sun Guard?
  • Recruiting Grounds.
  • Special Forces and Commando Training.
  • Thyrsian Martial Arts and Weapons Training.
Easily. As the Golden Company is primarily a fleet-based organization, the outfit has many ports of call where they’ve established outposts and recruitment centres. From these orbital stations, trained Mercenaries or even youth of fighting age would find themselves inducted as Sun Guard Initiates; where they’d be rigorously tested for a whole solar year. During this period of time, these brave Initiates would learn of the Thyrsian way of war, and be inducted into the Golden Company - provided they survive the perils of their enlightenment. One in one hundred usually survive the selection process, before they are taken to the medicae deck and implanted with the various neural nodes required to utilize the Sun Guard’s power suit. Should they in turn survive the implantation process, and not be subsumed by the personality that their armour has adopted, they would be reborn as Stellar Legionnaires; ready to pursue their path to glory and immeasurable wealth.
