SETTING INFORMATION
- Landmark Name: The Temorzhai Ridge
- Classification: Mountain range
- Location: The frigid planet Gertafuu VI, which the Whiphids call Akrugh
- Affiliation: The Whiphids
- Size: Massive
- Population: Sparse
- Demographics: 90% Whiphids, 10% Aqualish
- Accessibility: The mountain range's bitter temperatures (often around -20F), treacherous cliffs, low visibility, high elevation, avalanche risks, and howling winds make it virtually impossible to navigate, even in an airspeeder or starship.
- Description: The Temorzhai Ridge is a gigantic mountain range dotted with tiny Whiphid camps. The Whiphids hunt and train throughout the range. It's too cold for all but the most tenacious Aqualish.
POINTS OF INTEREST
- Sak Sgurrh, a Whiphid village on a cliff at the very edge of the range, has the only starship landing pad and refueling facilities in the Temorzhai region. There's usually at least one Whiphid Raider light frigate landed at Sak Sgurrh. It's your best bet for finding a Whiphid guide willing to take you into the mountains.
- Climbing P'thakar, the highest peak in the range, is a common rite of passage for adult Whiphids. It's a surprisingly rich hunting ground. Perhaps two hundred years ago, Velok the Elder left a huge block of Hijarna stone at the top. Chipping a spearhead or knife from the incredibly hard stone can be an extra layer to the rite of passage, sometimes undertaken by offworld Whiphids who want to reconnect with their heritage.
- Tigritt Valley, moderately more temperate than the rest of the range, is a refuge during the most vicious storms. Most of the Whiphids who live here full-time are very old or heavily acclimated to offworld temperatures. Some small-scale farming goes on here.
- Kharklama, an icy region of jagged reddish stone, is home to several elders of the Toglannoq, sometimes including the long-retired Velok the Younger. There is a secret hot spring in Kharklama, one of many. Hot springs have always held great significance for the Whiphids, who chart and guard their locations and use them as places for meeting, healing, and refuge.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Whiphids settled Gertafuu VI around a millennium ago. Considering the human name stupid, they called the planet Akrugh, which loosely translates to 'summer camp.' The Temorzhai Ridge has held various Whiphid tribes, camps, and villages since the species' earliest landfall. Sites like Sak Sgurrh and the Tigritt Valley have seen constant habitation.
In recent times, the Toglannoq have taken a special liking to the Temorzhai Ridge as an uncompromising and ennobling training ground. Whether learning lore and songs at Kharklama or scaling the great peak of P'thakar, the Force-users of the Whiphids have plenty of opportunity for an authentic, transformative, challenging, deep-rooted training experience. Around a dozen Toglannoq adepts and elders can be found in the Temorzhai at any given time, though they may or may not be together. Though the Toglannoq as an association are largely modern, Whiphid elders have touched the Force here at Temorzhai for centuries, and the mountain range has a powerful legacy.
