The Three S's: Sand, Sun, and Slaves! On my!

Aika Kawakami

Can one find true light when shadowed in darkness?
Coruscant_Underworld.jpg
*Coruscant
Darkness can reach any part of the galaxy, no matter how safe and secure it seems. This was true even of Coruscant, the home world of the Galactic Republic and seat of galactic democracy. For all the glitz and the glamor that one could see upon the surface, like anywhere, it had another side. The underworld of the planet was home to many seedier elements, ones that some wouldn't even believe were there. It was here that a problem had come to light, and it was here that would be the scene for the coming adventure...
Aika leaned against the doors of the turbo-lift which lead to the lower levels of Coruscant. She'd received an assignment that came along side some horrible news. At the word of the Senate, the Jedi Council had dispatched herself and few others to end the problem before word could get out. That problem was a possible slave ring in the lower levels of the city. Upon hearing it, she was astounded. Slaves? Here? How was such a thing possible? Though, the better question that needed to be answered was how this could've been allowed to happen? Sure, the lower cities were known to be crime ridden, how could something such as this slip by them? How was there not a single report of odd activity? There had to have been some inclination that something was going on? It made no sense to her. Regardless, they were to investigate and, if they found who was behind such acts, bring them to justice. Today would certainly be interesting...

Coruscant, the planet and city she loves so much. The very pulse of the place pumped through her veins .. the smells, the lights, the constant buzz of life around her is something she thrives on. As is the nature of her work, as Agent for the G.I.A she is more often then not in the lower quarters either on missions for the G.I.A or maintain close relations with her many contacts and informants.

Clipping along the pavement at a rapid pace, Coci arrived at the designated meeting point, she is not a member of the Jedi Order and therefore would not be traveling with the Jedi she is going to be working with on this mission. She smiled at the idea of this, although from time to time, she has been seen within the walls of the Jedi Academies, and most thankful for their guidance, Coci is best to serve the Republic not as a Jedi, at least... not for now.

Her dark cloak buffeted about her legs as a weak breeze played with the hems, she stood off to the side near by the turbo lift in which the Jedi are to arrive.

Coruscant. How long had it been since she had been here last, the Shi'ido had no idea. However she had wished that her return had been under more nicer circumstances. Slavery was something she utterly despised, and as a Jedi she tried to limit using the word hate, but this was one of those rare times when she allowed it. She hated slavery. The thought of any living being in chains sickened her, it was not what life had intended for the sentient, so why should they be forced to live under another's control? This was something she continued to hold dear to her heart, something she had striven to pass on to any student that passed through the Tython Academy's walls.

Now here on Coruscant, the heart of the Republic and the start of a free galaxy, slavery had even begun to appear within the bowels of the city world. This would be her first mission as a Jedi Master, and she intended to show the Council and the rest of the Jedi and the Republic that she was deserving of the title. It had been a while since she had the chance to work along side her friend and fellow instructor, Aika Kawakami. So although the circumstances that they would meet under were indeed undesirable, she would be glad to be reunited with her friend once more. Making her way to the coordinates of the designated meeting point, she pushed back her hood as he greeted the young woman she recognised as Coci Sinopi.

"It's a pleasure to see you again, Coci." she said, clasping hands with the human. So the young G.I.A. agent had also been dispatched. The situation must be quite dire, she thought, her smile disappearing slowly as she awaited the arrival of the other group members.

As night over Coruscant began to fall, the lower levels however live with this sense of darkness continually. The constant dull bleeding street lights the only means of visibility with physical sight, however this does not worry Coci very much. The shadows cast in long patches of along the streets and in the alley ways they hide those not wishing to be seen. They can be places of solitude as well as danger, friend and foe depending on your fate for that day.

Images of figure shifted around them, coming and going on night ventures, some returning home to be with loved ones, others beginning their business .. of what nature was anyone's guess. Coci extended her hand to take that of the now Jedi Master, she smiled only lightly at her greeting.

"A pleasure to see as well", is all she said, down here no does not use rank or title, too many eyes and ears intruding and watching to discover any sort of advantage they might have from those they consider worth while to 'take from'.

Vulpesen eye's scanned the area around him as he walked through the streets of the underworld. Around him were a set of dark robes which seemed to hide him well and considering how much he enjoy disappearing acts, they were some of his favorite things to wear. Clothing aside, he was here for a mission which seemed like one straight from his past. Not many, if any, jedi were familiar with the details of his street life. Back during those days he had broken many crime rings throughout Nar Shadaa and now on Coruscant, he had a feeling that this fight would be fairly easy. Looking over to the jedi who accompanied him, Vulpesen put on a smile and stepped forward. "So, how is everyone on this fine night?"

Noticing the others, Aika sauntered over towards the three, arriving behind Vulpesen just as he spoke. "I assume were not doing too bad, considering were all here. Though I can't help but think we'd all be a bit better if we didn't have to investigate what's been going on." She grinned and nodded to both Coci and her fellow instructor at the academy, a slight sigh escaping her lips as her hands clasped behind her back. "So, I trust we all know the unfortunate situation that brings us together?" Unfortunate was the simplest way to put it. If one really wanted to describe it, one could say it was completely awful. She'd never encountered anything to do with slavery before, and yet it bothered even her. She could only imagine the type of mental impact it could have one who was being sold off against their will. It just wasn't right..

Coci remained still as more of the group arrived, her eyes darting to them all as she considered them. Here to run an investigation on a slave ring, generally goes two ways, it is either a small operation with some low end criminal trying to make quick credits or it is a well run operation and therefore much harder to infiltrate and more dangerous of course. Coruscant, filled with all manner of crime and poor, see the full range of this spectrum ... any thing goes.

She simply nodded her head toward Kira, as sign of her understanding. The others she did not know what intelligence they had. "Might I suggest we find somewhere to .. talk more freely", out in the open is not ideal as the streets have ears and eyes.
