  • Biphasic: Due to its design and its two shield emitters, the Clades-class planetary shield is capable of emitting a primary orbital shield (much like any other planetary shield) and a second one, effectively setting up two barriers between a planet and whatever threat is found in its orbit.
  • Divide & Conquer: The second shield, also known as the battlefield shield, feeds off of the highly conductive, complex circuitry system of the isotope-5 reactor that catalyzes and amplifies energy distribution to grant the battle shield impressive speed. The second shield can be turned off and back on incredibly fast, and this makes the shield a very real, dynamic part of any dogfight. It is usually tuned on to allow the retreat of damaged spacecraft or to trap enemy ships in an enclosed area (between the first and second shield), away from their fleet where they can be picked off little by little.
  • Sectoral: The secondary focusing emitters are distributed throughout the celestial body's surface, establishing a division in hexes and areas on the primary shield. When faced with a specific, localized threat (such as an asteroid), a sector of the shield can be reinforced to make sure it withstands the hit.
  • Energy efficient: Being a molecular shield, it absorbs the damage taken from energy based weapons and redirects it to the reactor, this energy -either received by the secondary or primary shield - is destined as an alternative power source to secure the primary shield.
  • EMP resistant: The reactor and its system are protected by an electromagnetic shield, it will be hard taking the shield down by means of electromagnetic interference.

  • Logistics: The installation and upkeep of a Clades-class shield is indescribably more complex than that other planetary shields. It requires its own command center and must be manned by quite a few operators, elevating the risk of human mistakes.
  • Depletion: The secondary shield is nowhere as strong as the primary shield, and while it charges up fast it loses energy just as quickly and can withstand less damage because it feeds the energy it absorbs from it to the primary shield instead of itself. The secondary shield cannot be kept up indefinitely, and therefore, for it to serve its purpose, perfect timing and coordination between the pilots and the operators are required.
  • Sectoral: Naturally, reinforcing a part of the shield means withdrawing power from the rest of it. In addition, the sectoral property of the primary shield is disabled if the secondary shield is on. The secondary shield does not have the sectoral property.
  • Catastrophic Failure: Like all planetary shields, the Trapper depends entirely on its main reactor. The secondary shield will go down if either its main emitter or the conductive circuit (found between the secondary shield emitter and the primary shield emitter) are damaged. However, if the primary shield emitter which holds the main reactor is destroyed, the whole system will fail and the planet will be rendered defenseless.

"He who is prudent and lies in wait for an enemy who is not, will be victorious."

Designed and created by a planet whose people have wished to see their system become impenetrable for countless generations, the Clades-Class M1 planetary shield came to be in order to satisfy one of their main concerns: orbital defense. However, not only would this shield provide protection, it would also allow them to have a measure of control over the orbital battlefield should their planet ever face such a threat. Its ability to divide and cage enemy ships earned it the moniker "the Trapper", and it stands today as one of the greatest accomplishments of Praesidium Corporation.

The setup of the Trapper is quite complex when compared to other, similar products. On the surface of the celestial body to be protected, two large satellite-like structures are constructed, separated by approximately fifty kilometers. These are the shield emitters. Their construction is continued underground, with one of the emitters - the one in charge of the primary shield - housing the Isotope-5 reactor that powers the whole system. Also underground, the conductive circuit net must be placed linking the secondary shield emitter to the first shield and the reactor. After, a number of secondary, smaller focusing emitters are distributed across the surface to establish the desired sectoral pattern.

The primary shield works like any other planetary shield, and therefore its use is overall simple. However, for the Trapper to be useful in case of an orbital threat, the secondary shield emitter must be operated from a command center which must also be linked to the emitter, if not constructed in the very same place.
