The Trial of Selena Halcyon

Well a few days had passed since Selena was arrested, and the exiled Jedi Master did not care for waiting for the trial to take place. It was inconvenient to say the least. The amount of care to keep her under control was starting to get laughable, assuming that she was one to laugh. For reasons unknown to her she was being labeled a criminal. The charges had still not been revealed to her, and yet everyone seemed to be calling her one as if it had been proven. Once the warrant had come out and she was aware of it she had turned herself in. No one had to go looking for her for long because she gave herself up. Freely. Without incident. Barely even spoken a word, and yet everyone treated her as if she was hostile. Her record should have more than proven her lack of hostility.

While in custody all she did was wait to hear what she had been charged with, yet nothing came. No word. Nothing. Part of her wondered why this was the case. Quickly, she began to start thinking that they did not know what to charge her with. It seemed about right. After all, she had done no wrong and as such could hardly be counted as guilty for anything. Perhaps they were scrambling to think of anything to throw at her. The Jedi Master just wondered why they felt the need to throw something at her. Why were they trying to get rid of her? Slowly she decided that she was being made the scapegoat for reasons beyond her. However, even that was not a satisfying answer to her.

In her cell she just meditated the time away for the most part. She did not eat, there was no need to. She barely moved and the meditation slowed everything down anyways. Guards grew confused by her as time went on. The Jedi Master was the picture of serene in her cell.

Finally someone came to get her. They escorted her to the court room with the utmost caution. A waste, she thought to herself. She posed no one a threat in the slightest. She almost assumed that this was to cause a scene. Give the impression that she needed to be heavily guarded. When she got the court room she was placed in a seat. A lawyer had been assigned to her, she would ignore him. No need existed for him to be there. Her innocence of any wrong would rapidly be revealed. Especially once she knew what false charges of criminal activity were being placed upon her.

Yusan watched silently, a slight bit hate mixed with remorse bubble up inside him. This jedi wasn't what he expected, she seemed different, but none the less he was here to watch her trial like everyone else. He took out a datapad and a holorecorder, taking care to hide the second of the two items while he took notes. He may hate the Jedi order as a whole but he could hold no hate towards a single and possibly innocent Jedi, what ever this Jedi's crimes were in the first place. @[member="Selena Halcyon"]

Nikolai Sivyir

Nikolai sat within the crowd, cloaked in an old tattered robe. At his feet sat his backpack, hooked to it was his lightsaber staff and inside of it was stuffed a number of different weapons and gadgets. The young Jedi looked around the room, staring at all the Jedi and people in the court. He hated them all. His Former Master was innocent, Nikolai knew it. Selena had never been anything but the perfect Jedi. At times she might have seemed brash, at others she might have even been considered foolhardy, but never in his life would Nikolai deem Selena Halcyon to be a criminal of any sort.

He knew that she was innocent just as he knew that he was a magician. It was simple to him, and of course he would say so if prompted.

For the last few months Nikolai had been within the outer rim. He had been hunting rumors of an Ancient Sith cult, looking and searching for any hint of them. In the end of course he had found nothing. No Sith, no cultist, nothing. It had all been a rather massive waste of time, though Nikolai had learned a few interesting tricks along the way, something that he rather liked.

As he thought back over the last few months the frown on his face did not disappear. Instead he scanned the front of the courtroom and locked eyes with his former master.

The Magician gave her a nod of solidarity, letting her know that he was with her.

Tallia pulled her speeder out in front of the Republic's "Criminal Justice Building" as they so mildly called it. Setting her speeder into park, she slipped her slender legs over it's shiny, metalic side and stepped down onto the large entrance platform. The whole area was bustling with activity. Camera crews and Holonews reporters buzzed around like flies, hunting down senators and other politicians for a statement on the "Jedi Trial". The news networks were having a field day right now. They were always looking to portray the Order in a bad light.

Tallia had worn a very unjedi-like outfit to the trial to try and avoid being bothered by journalists. She didn't want say something rude or sarcastic (which she most likely would, given the chance.) and give the public more reason to dislike jedi.

She also carried her lightsaber within a bag hung loosely at her shoulder. As she passed near groups of reporters, she turned her head in the opposite direction, pretending to be occupied by something in the distance. Entering the first room, a great, echoing entry way, built to make you feel tiny, Tallia was immediately met by a security station. She slung her bag off her shoulder and set it onto a conveyor belt that pulled it under an infared scanner. As her purse slided through there was a loud beeping sound emitted from an adjacent console. One of the guards peered over unconcerned to look through it's contents.

"Jedi huh?" He exclaimed in a rather monotone manner as he continued to stare at the screen. Tallia's bag slid out on the other side of the scanning machine, and the guard quickly snatched it up. "Im afraid weapons are not allowed in the courtroom miss." He said "I'm going to have to hold on to this while your inside."

Tallia could feel the amusement of those waiting in line behind her. "Busted!" They were no doubt thinking. A mixture of anger and embarassment welled up inside her. Carrying her lightsaber was always just second nature to her, she had forgotten that it would be considered a tool of destruction out in public. She scowled at the guard then turned to head into the courtroom. "Why the Republic can't trust their own allies is beyond me." she thought to herself.

The trial was nothing but media rumours for now. The fact that it had been publicized peeked the Princess of Kiffu's attention enough to cross from Protectorate territory to The Republic.
Kiskla had ascertained this was a Jedi Master under trial, and for what crimes? That's where her curiosity remained unquenched.

After obliging the security detailing, Kiskla had slipped amongst the crowds unnoticed. She was never one for the official Jedi garb. Perhaps this would be the opportune time to learn how to spectate silently. She'd entertained the thought, and grinned it off. If there would be an opportunity to speak up, Kiskla was well-versed in both the Jedi code, and the Republican, despite her lack of immediate affiliation to both. The Jedi, however, she was making a slow comeback to, but not enough to stay in one place for long.

While waiting for the introduction, Kiskla wrapped the draping of her asymmetrical fabrics over her lap as she crossed her legs and leaned back in her inconspicuous seat. Nothing official had begun, but there were already a swarm of conflicted emotions from the crowd. Many were anxious, few were bitter, and some felt genuinely blindsided. It was a delicate situation, and the media was continuously stomping the egg shells into oblivion.

This trial had many potential reflections indeed. It showed a lack of organization within The Order, especially the council being unable to decide the fate of their own. Furthermore, there was a strong potential for The Jedi to be perceived in a negative light. The messaging of the media would be crucial in the end, since the public relied so heavily on being spoon-fed opinions rather than formulating their own. Laziness was a disease of the masses.

After a few minutes of simply observing the collected crowd, the young Jedi Master's cerulean gaze finally drifted to the defendant. Kiskla's field of responsibility drifted through the crowd, tangling with the other Force Users in the vicinity. However, despite the pressured situation, there was no hostility felt from the Jedi Master, @[member="Selena Halcyon"]. She had found the name on the lips of the crowd, in faint whispers that looked to uncover more truths to the story. It seemed everyone was in a state of befuddlement.
Faint amusement quivered at the corner of Kiskla's lips in admiration to the placidness of the Master on trial. Had that been her on the stand, Kiskla would have been seething at the audacity of it all.

Oh well, time to see how to cookie crumbled.

Jack Sheltrak

Senator of Zeltros, Former Supreme Chancellor

Captain Jack Harkness, now senator and well the only one bored enough to volunteer for this. Someone had wanted the jedi's head on a platter. Someone had wanted her to be arrested, tried and thrown away but as he sat down looking the woman over he spoke low and briefly. "So ah I'll be defending you if this ever gets underway. Captain Jack Harkness and we are going to get you off." His eyes held amusement, humor at the situation. There was no one who wanted to produce a list of charges and there was very few well none coming forward to condemn her it might actually make for an easy case as he stood up and spoke. "Your honor may we have a list of charges against Jedi Master Halcyon?"

Immersion... immersion in the white current meant one thing compared to most. Stealth and right now as Syn walked into the courtroom. He remained very still letting his force presence be hidden, his sabers handed over for security yes but despite the looks he knew he was getting the Bolverk of the jedi. The evil one willing to raze a sith academy to the ground... Well he had been tried and punished for his acts. Something private between himself and the others. All most of the Republic knew was he was given a clean slate... Which is why he had come here to see what happened to Selena, she had been at the auction house same as he was but he had snuck out before the incidents claimed. A job finished as now he took a seat and folded his hands in front of his chest as the elbows went onto his thighs. He wished her luck letting the immersion end so the presence of another jedi master there is support or to make sure she got what she deserved. In truth he respected her far more then others for her transcript at the trial. It was funny hearing Dragonsflame talking to her or even better how she had dealt with them. He took in the other jedi in the room with a brush of his senses not turning his sashed eyes from Selena.

The wait seemed like a long time to the Jedi Master who was simply meditating in her chair. Her posture perfect as she waited calmly. The peace within her would be evident to all as it already seemed to be. The number of people in the court room who were not in opposition to her was a curiosity. She had expected for more people to be against her. Not because she had done anything wrong, after all she had done no crimes, but because this seemed like a scenario that would welcome spin. In fact, it seemed especially likely to turn out that way given the fact that the Council had behaved the way it had.

When her legal counsel arrived she gave him a court nod. His title of captain was a curiosity as well to her. Perhaps he was a military lawyer, it would make some sense given that this was to an extent a military matter. Little need was there for her to speak to him yet. After all, this was hardly a legitimate way for her to first meet her counsel. That could serve for grounds of a mistrial. She kept that logged away in her minds. This already was feeling like a farce and while the man seemed genuine to her, it would just mean that he was not in on the matter at hand.

After his request the judge overseeing the trial finally rose. "No list of crimes has been provided to me. None are even on file for that matter. This brouhaha seems to be meant to serve some political purpose and I will not have it in my court. The lack of proper persecutory etiquette leads me to dismiss this case. Jedi Master Selena Halcyon, you are free to go."

The words that came from the judge's mouth caught her somewhat off guard. She had expected to be found innocent but she did not expect to see the case thrown out in this manner. It had seemed like there were those who had something that they wanted to accuse her of, but evidently they had nothing to stand on at all. The fact pleased her greatly. She rose slowly as court guards approached her and released her from her shackles. She turned to the lawyer, "Thank you, Captain, even though this case did not seem to materialize, your time was taken and I appreciate your willingness to give it."

(( Due to the failure of the accusing parties to come up with actual crimes and get this trial rolling in a timely matter, I'm calling this. Seeing as that she is innocent in the face of no charges, any further accusations of her being a criminal will be considered non-canon as it is evident that she is not. It is evident that you have nothing on her, so there is no point in wasting my time. Had she done anything the accusers certainly would have been able to put something together quickly. Thank you for those who have taken time to post in this thread, your support was welcome. ))

Syn just looked up from his seat and chuckled low. Nothing to much but he rose moving to look at Selena while he rolled his shoulders. "Master Halcyon I am glad to see you... well what did you do again. The ones who demanded this couldn't even appear and I am afraid I don't recall a crime." His arms went over his chest. "I do hope though your guidance will remain within the order it would be a shame to lose someone who is not... I am trying to find a good word but it matters not." He offered a hand for her and really did hope she stayed it would be... lonely if he had to stomach being around some of the others and with the news that until a new grandmaster could be chosen it would be a council of masters... He hoped to have at least one who wouldn't play politic games of trying to be powerful.

When the Rogue approached her she had to think a bit. While she had been found not guilty of any crime it was not as if the Jedi Council's rash decision to exile her was removed. While it was founded likely on the same nonsense as seen by those trying to make her out to be a criminal it did not change the fact. Furthermore it was leaderless and without any sort of direction. The order was drifting and she was not sure if she would even consider rejoining if the offer was even extended like the hand of the Jedi before her. She looked at it for a moment before politely shaking it.

"I appreciate the kindness but I am going to stay away from the Order," her lightsaber would be in police custody so she could retrieve that without going to the temple as well. "They are lost. The darkside clouds their judgment. I will serve the galaxy the best I can outside of the Order. In what capacity I do not know yet."
