Description:
As the Aegis Corporation investigates further in what need there was for specific types of ships they noticed a vacuum around a defensive space station. Taking the initiative to correct this, especially in their own territories, the plans began to create three unique stations for defense. The Valknut was to be the first.
Already having established a line of fighter carriers, cruiser escorts, and infantry landing vessels they decided to make the first station a slugger. At the center was the Hypermatter Annihilator Reactor that would power both the shields and the main, and sole, weapon. Consolidating the majority of the station into being the mechanized aspects there's only a small living quarters and docking ring for the crew on board. With two cannons on either axis the fire arc is limited without venting from the exhaust ports.
As the station came to fruition the technical staff stripped everything not pertaining to the weapon system and the shielding. As such it's a massive, floating, armored cannon in space. What makes the plasma cannon a unique and deadly weapon, and the obvious choice, was that it fired magnetically enclosed plasma that upon impact on a shield or hull, inflicted damage in two ways. The first would be the obvious impact damage from a plasma weapon. The second was the plasma continued to burn, enveloping what it hit to inflict significant damage over time. Although one way to circumvent the shields taking more damage from the plasma coating them was to drop the shields allowing the plasma to 'float away', dropping your shields in battle could be a dangerous risk.
